Gourmet Wok is right next to Exit 55 on 95. It has a counter where you order for take out or eat in. They had a lunch special which comes w fried rice or white rice. The restaurant is very clean and the people are helpful. The food was hot and fresh -- tasty and predictable. The broccoli was not overcooked. This is a local, mostly take-out Chinese restaurant in Branford, CT. Other Yelp reviewers have noted that the owner is very affable; and I can attest to that, having seen several 'regulars' come I. For their orders. I'm new to the place. I liked their rendition of Singapore mei fun: large portion, plenty of shrimp, chicken, pork. Spice level was nice to my taste. Fried dumplings were good. Although slightly thick for my taste, filling was nicely made with a bit more aromatics (ginger?) than usual. Hunan Beef was a winner. Spicier than I had expected, no criticism no be clear, I enjoyed the tender beef pieces with the many varied veggies. Cold Sesame Noodles were OK. Just tried this place for the first time and was delighted. The won tons in the soup were firm and not overcooked and the pork fried rice was filled with pork and not pieces of half pork and half fat as so many other places try to get away with. read more

This is by far one of my favorite Chinese spots. I drive a little out of my way to go here because I really like their food. Their pork fried rice is some of my favorite rice. When at home I don't use salt too much and I appreciate the fact that their food is not salty. Shrimp chow mein is my favorite. An excellent dish that they provide. The owner is very nice. I decided to give this place a try since its about 5 minutes away from my house. Located next to my nail salon, it always has a few cars in front of it, from what I can see.. I walked in at exactly 2:59 knowing that lunch was over at about three or 3:30. Understanding many places are slow around this time, it was nice of me to walk in and at least see if they could serve me lunch and give them business. When walking in, I got a menu and walked out. No one greeted me or even smiled, so I immediately walked out. By this time it was 3:00:35 and I was 35 seconds late for lunch. I turned back and went inside to POLITELY ask the gentlemen if lunch was still being served, he cut me off and said no, but the "combination platters" are still being served. Okay, well I just wanted to save money. Some places still do lunch 5 minutes late, but not this one. Prices are also a little high. I've been going there for almost 10 years and everytime I am there, they have been incredibly friendly. Even when by are very busy they take the time to strike up a conversation. The general tso's chicken was just plain soggy, boring tasting and not at all spicy. I don't think I will be buying from here again. Love their food, but had to only give 3 stars because they do not deliver and are closed on Sundays! I do not understand why Chinese restaurants in Branford do not deliver? But that is a big disappointment. Almost every Chinese restaurant I know of, both in my hometown & others, is open 7 days a week AND delivers? Ok, rant over, very nice owners here, love the pork fried dumplings, chicken with broccoli, crab rangoons, general tso's chicken, lo mein, etc. AND they sell Snapple (always a plus with me), along with almost every beverage you can think of - which I LOVE beyond words! Average Chinese food prices & wait times. We still order from here often & enjoy it a lot....please bring your food to me and my belly when I am hungry...I'd definitely be inclined to order more frequently from you.... :) read more

I really like this place. What really does it for me in a Chinese restaurant is cleanliness plus food quality. Lets face it, a lot of Chinese restaurants are just downright dirty. The food may be OK, but if the place is nasty you automatically make yourself not want to eat from there. Not the case at Gourmet Wok. Restaurant is very clean, food comes in the nice plastic containers with lids, and best of all it isn't all watery like at Foliage in East Haven. The fried rice is decent, but the standouts for me are roast pork chow mein and cashew chicken. The chow mein here is much better than I've had at other places. The only downside is the location, which is near impossible to turn left out of because of where it is in relation to the stop light. read more
