I was craving Chinese and was unable to find a good place in West County. I came across this location and decided to give it a try. The parking lot is shared, and the restaurant is in a corner. I walked in and was greeted immediately even though she was working on other orders. They have about 3 to 4 tables for dining in. A few people were eating there, but mostly people waiting to pick up and go. I ordered a shrimp St. Paul and crab rangoon. The order took about 15 minutes, so I ran to schnucks to grab a few things. I came back and waited about 5 minutes until she called my order. Since I've been craving this for a while, I ran to the car and took a bite out of everything immediately. Ugh, I'm a bit disappointed. The Rangoon wasn't as crunchy on the outside as it should be. It don't have any pictures because my husband ate them. He also said he's had better. The shrimp St. Paul was bland and didn't have many sprouts in it. Guess I'll have to drive to North County or the city for the best taste. What I really liked aaa how much chicken there was in both items. It didn't have the greasy taste of fast food Chinese and overall if we planned to order quick Chinese. The old saying is "fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me". I have been getting dinner from this restaurant for the last 10 years, at least. About a month ago, I got my usual Sweet and Sour Chicken combination with Crab Rangoon. The Crab Rangoon is one of the best in town, it is made with petals instead of a folded over crust. The fried chicken had an exceptionally thick coating of breading on the chicken pieces, I called and spoke with them and told them the problem and it was acknowledged. Excellent crab Rangoon. Solid dishes, we got beef me fun and mo shoo pork. Very generous servings. The only thing that was just so so was the streamed dumplings but we added a little chili sauce and perked it up. I used their online ordering system directly from the web as the Yelp linked version wouldn't let me delete anything I had added to the cart when I changed my mind. I would recommend for take out only. Sit down not so much. They served us in take away containers which was a good idea since they seve large portions and a person will most likely take home for leftovers. The ambiance is not set up for sit-down even though they have tables. I had the bourbon chicken with an interesting fried rice and an egg roll. The egg roll was vegetable and everything I had was good, my father in law had the beef and broccoli , my mother in law had the General Tso chicken and my wife had the mushu chicken, all came with egg roll and the fried rice. we used to really like China Garden. after a bad experience, we stayed away. Today we gave it another try-and it was far worse. here is a photo of my chicken and broccoli, once I picked out most of the celery. As you can see, the meal was primarily celery! The sauce was watery and there was very little chicken or broccoli. The meal was bulked out with celery and carrots.VERY disappointed. I added a bit of soy sauce. But I couldn't find ANY GARLIC. General Tso's Chicken -- Miss C.'s dish, but she left some here. Broccoli and huge chunks of chicken, highly breaded, not hot AT ALL. Mongolian Beef -- Miss C.'s dish, but she left some here. Tender beef strips, green onions, broccoli, carrot strips, baby corn, green pepper and white onion And LOTS and LOTS of sauces to customize everything. Miss C. took control of the rice, 'cause I don't do rice. She ordered online, picked up the order and brought it to the house. (Their eat-in option is not a looker.) The eggrolls, crab Rangoon and pot stickers were ALL hot, crispy and well-filled. Tasty morsels! We both embellished with sauces. For the entrees . . . none of them were the best. They were A-OK but of the four, I'd say the Mongolian Beef was the best. Coming in at #2 was the Chicken with Garlic Sauce. And it tells me a lot that Miss C. left both of her entrees here. Their food used to be excellent. I had never had a badly prepared meal however, it is under new ownership and my last two meals have been awful! The spring rolls have hardly any filling, they are soggy in the inside and crispy on the outside. The teriyaki chicken kbobs are dry, crispy and no taste. The chicken noodle soup is so salty and again not flavorful! I miss the previous owners and their well prepared and flavorful food. I will be looking for a different Chinese restaurant to buy my takeout. Anyone have any good recommendations in this area? read more

Their fried rice wasn't as good as others though, had less flavor than most other places. Portions are a lot, prices are cheap, so yeah, if you are in the area and lookin for a decent Chinese takeout for cheapz, this is your place. I have been going to China Garden for over 13 yrs REGULARLY and because of their actions tonight I will no longer be patronizing them. I placed an order online to pick up and wrote that I had a coupon for a free sweet and sour chicken w/ a $50 order. My subtotal was $53 before any tax or fees. When my husband went to pick-up and give them the coupon the employee refused to honor it saying it was old. THERE IS NO EXPIRATION DATE on this coupon. It came attached to their take out menu. He absolutely refused to honor it and instead threw a 4 pc crab rangoon at my husband after they argued back and forth. My husband said he was unhappy with this resolution and the employees just threw his hands in the air and shouted non English things. I am so mad and disappointed that they lost a valued customer over this. I even tipped them 10% for the order i picked up. I have never seen such poor service. If the coupons you attach to take out menus, that customers tend to hold to for future orders, expire, then it is on you to have that printed on them. We picked up an order this evening and the food was terrible. The crab Rangoon tasted like old oil, fried rice was actually white rice that was yellow colored with no vegetables, eggs, etc in it. The egg foo young was watery and also tasted like old oil. My husband didn't care for his human beef either. We threw all the left overs away (would have been 2 more meals each), it was that bad.
