This was a return visit, to see if our previous one was a one-off or typical. A we experienced last time, the desk staff was very helpful in explaining some of the details of their cooking. We started with pot stickers (excellent) and also had some crab rangoon (also wonderful). I had General Tso's chicken. It was breaded (not heavily) and sauced, but not not overly sweet. My other half had ham fried rice, her favorite. She reported that it wasn't the absolute best she'd ever had, but it was close. While we ate in, we witnessed a brisk takeout business. Good Chinese food at a reasonable price! We ordered online which was a very easy process. The only downside was the food being ready 15 minutes after their estimated pick up time. All of the staff was really friendly. Their portion sizes are generous! We ordered two combination plates (sesame chicken and chicken and broccoli) which both came with fried rice and an egg roll. We also got crab Rangoon and potstickers. The staff threw in extra crab Rangoon since our food took a long time, and you get free things for certain order sizes (I think we picked extra egg rolls) so we ended up with a TON of food! We order from Zane Chi because we live so close. The crab Rangoon was tasteless. There was no crab in it. The egg roll had no filling as well. It had cabbage but very little of anything else. We ordered two entrees. The orange chicken was very good but little broccoli and the Seafood combo which was a house special had fish and was good but bland. Maybe it was Christmas Day or maybe the food took an extra hour to be ready for pick up but I felt the crab Rangoon was supposed to be a treat and it wasn't good at all. read more

Zang chi is a true diamond in the rough. What looks like a typical Chinese carry out has some amazing dishes that are far from your average Chinese carry out fare. I had the boiled beef. This is a soup with beef, onions, cilantro and other yummy stuff. It's loaded with chilis too. It's spicy but not insanely spicy. My party also ordered more typical carry out items. It was all really good. It's 5 miles from my house, that's the only drawback! I'll be a regular from now on. read more

Crab Rangoon was absolutely excellent, as was the quick service and very reasonable prices. But the good news stopped there. My general chicken was bland and had the "reheated" Taste (we all know that leftover Chinese isn't as good but still not horrid) and I said this to my husband who said he was gonna say the exact same of his orange chicken. The egg rolls both had the same day old vibe, the food was just absolutely average. The previous owners (Sonny and lady) and then Roy, all was fine. But, now you can't even see a menu. I went to their newest site zangchirestaurant.com which had a menu but most things not available in half sizes. So I called to ask if I could get a half size said sure. I asked where can I see your menu - reply was use zangchi.net so I hung up. Went to that site and was redirect to "Top Sushi." So I called back and was told to use grubhub/doordash to view menu. So I do, no dinner combo specials, not a full menu. I called back, was told "those sites don't have everything, you need to come in and view our paper menu." I asked if she was a manager. She said no, only staff. No apology whatsoever which let to me hanging up. I'm not sure who is rating this place but something does not add up! I've been going here for at least 3 years now and this place is awesome. Listen, I know good quality, fresh and delicious Asian food when I find it and Zang Chi is the spot! Dishes are always consistent and flavorful. My favorite is Hunan Shrimp and the Shrimp spring rolls. I've also had their fried rice, lo mien and a few other dishes and everything was on point. So...what does Zang Chi actually mean? One reviewer thought it had to do farts. Not so much... It actually translates more like "everything will grow." Prosperity is always a good wish! I ordered a lunch special and it was less expensive than a number whatever at the Golden Arches Supper Club. Quite a bit more delicious as well. I went for the general's chicken and a soda. It came with crab rangoon (delicious) and fried rice (sub-par...nothing but colored rice). I was especially impressed that the chicken pieces were all right about bite-sized and relatively uniform such that they cooked equally. Also, I was impressed that there was a slight burn from the peppers that lingered for a few minutes. The general should NOT be a bland dish and this version delivered. This place is adequate but not exceptional. I would certainly stop by there again if I were on the prowl for an inexpensive lunch and in the area. read more

I have eaten here twice. The first time everything was great and I was excited to try them again tonight. After tonight I do not know if I will come back. The Good: I enjoy the sauces I have had on their food. The restaurant looks clean Prices are reasonable The crab rangoon is very good. Online ordering is very simple, and they have coupons if you spend at least $20. The Bad: I feel like the menu descriptions are deceptive. I do not have confidence that orders are accurate. My most recent experience: Tonight, I ordered a "Happy Family", Whole order of plain fried rice, 8 crab Rangoon, and a free half wonton soup. The crab rangoon was very good and the half order of wonton soup was HUGE, I wonder if they might have given me a full instead of a half. Unfortunately, even though I ordered a full order of plain fried rice the container was only 75% of the way full and a lot of it was burnt. The real disappointment was the "Happy Family" though. "Happy Family" is described as "Lobster, jumbo shrimp, slice of chicken, beef & roast pork with assorted Chinese vegetables in chef's special sauce." My "Happy Family" had 7 medium sized shrimp (nothing jumbo about them), broccoli, onion, green peppers, and mushrooms. There was no Lobster, chicken, beef, or pork inside of my entrée. I picked through the entire thing to make sure I was not just missing it. I can safely conclude they left out 4/5 of the meat I was supposed to have. I was incredibly disappointed by this. I thought about calling in to complain but I knew I was not going to want to drive all the way back up to the store so I just dealt with it as it's 10 minutes each way. I also noticed that none of the people I saw working at the store were wearing gloves or face masks which I found to be a bit concerning. If you order from Zang Chi I highly recommend you check your order before leaving the store. They put a ton of staples into the bag (5 on mine) to stop you from opening it, but ignore the staples and check your order. My first visit here was 4 out of 5, tonight's visit was 1 out of 5. I am going to settle for 2 out of 5 for my final review. read more

I tell you, I ordered from here because of the awesome recommendation that comes up when you Google "Chinese food near me: Unadorned Chinese restaurant with a concise menu of classic dishes & online ordering. Seriously, that sold me. It's the Waffle House of Chinese food delivery and I love it. If it has a picture on the website the food arrives looking just like that. The crab rangoon are set but not desperately so, have crab flavor but no actual chunks or color. The same brown sauce comes with the egg foo young and the cashew chicken. The chicken dishes all have the same breaded fried white meat chicken, tossed with the raw vegetables or nuts of designation, sauce on the side. Everyone needs a cheap Chinese delivery place for picky eaters, children and hangovers, and this one is mine. *It is noteworthy that the roommate who met the delivery girl at the door was really unhappy. She says the woman was aggressive and seemed drunk. I didn't see it (and the same roommate neglected to bring the food in for 20 minutes) so I can't verify this. But that is unpleasant. read more

I can't have MSG and Zang Chi doesn't cook with it. Perfect. They are happy to help me figure out items that will fit any dietary restrictions, and we have even come up with some low sodium options. Love the Shrimp St Paul sandwich. For gluten free options try the Mei Fun (rice noodles). I have been a customer for years, and prefer some food to others, of course, but how can you argue with a friendly voice that sends you food the way you requested it, with pretty quick delivery? Someone of Chinese descent once told me that "zang chi" translated into "the fart" or some such. Unfortunately, I have no idea if that's true or if my acquaintance was just telling tall tales and "ancient Chinese secret" tomfoolery. I do, however, think that Zang Chi-the-restaurant ranks only slightly higher than a fart in awesomeness. I've been losing my taste and appreciation for Chinese food over the past year or two, so take this opinion with a grain of salt. But for me, Zang Chi is just mediocre. Sure, there are coupons for fried wontons or crab rangoon that sweeten the deal for many, but those don't reel me or my friends in because everything is just so... blah. And I've never had particularly friendly or quick service, either. I used to live near Zang Chi and would order from here out of convenience, but I always regretted it. Now that I live further away, I've only returned twice, and the food and service was just as I had remembered.
