The best Chinese food in Frederick County, Maryland hands down. My family loves Chinese food and China Garden does not disappoint. We ordered the chicken fried rice which was an extra large container of perfectly flavored fried rice with lots and lots of white meat chicken strips. Delicious. We also ordered the sautéed shrimp with vegetables from the lunch menu. There were six big shrimp, lots of lightly cooked vegetables and fried rice. A spring roll filled with shrimp was included in the price. China Garden has won many awards for best Chinese food and the awards are rightly deserved. You will not be disappointed. We were lucky enough to have lunch with friends here during an unexpected visit to Frederick. We are now living in Tucson arizona, and let me tell you, if it weren't for Panda Express we would never get Asian food there. It is beyond awful. But, hooray for China garden. We had our favorite, general tso's chicken and cashew chicken. Great soup, egg rolls and portions are out of this world. A real Frederick tradition. Looking forward to our next visit! read more

Favorite Chinese in the area. Food portions generous & have never had anything that wasn't good. While it's a bit expensive we never cease to eat every bit of it. Good food for delivery. The Crab wontons were delicious, and they put a cherry in with the dip for this appetizer, which was a creative touch. My General Tso's had bell peppers and carrots in it, which was a great change from the standard soggy broccoli that I've come to expect from most Chinese delivery restaurants. The fried rice was also very good. Of course it's not the healthiest and lightest of fare, but hey at least I ate and enjoyed veggies my Chinese for once! My fiance ordered lemon shrimp, which was disappointing. We didn't expect it to be breaded so it was not crispy and kind of soggy by the time that it got to him. We're vegan and we had vegetable fried rice no egg which was out of this world I also had General Tso's bean curd and dry sauteed stringbans. Everything was so delicious. Not only that, they give you delicious pickled cucumber appetizer and free tea at the beginning of every meal. They also have wonderful szechuan eggplant. Recently, I ordered takeout from China Garden. My order (approx $13.00) of General Tso's chicken (dinner portion) and pork fried rice was ready for pickup when I arrived at the restaurant. Dining at home, my wife and I were delighted to find the sauce sweet and mildly spicy and the chicken tender and crispy. We also really liked the large amount of sauteed peppers and carrots that had been incorporated into the sauce. While not exceptional, the pork fried rice was also tasty. Further, we were pleasantly surprised to discover a container of spicy, sour pickles in our bag! Note: The dinner portion of General Tso's is quite large. As I mentioned above, one order was sufficient for two adults - there were even leftovers which I warmed up for lunch the next day! read more

Service here has always been great. Prices are incredibly reasonable for the portions you recieve. The General Tso's chicken is only around $15 and could feed three people easily. But I don't like to share. So everyone should order separately because then you cam try each others food and pack the leftovers for lunch. Sushi is up to par no dissatisfaction whatsoever. I'll always enjoy the atmosphere because its mostly booths inside and I love the booths. The presentation for the food is great too. First, I was seated at a booth in a far corner, which the hostess had to hurriedly clear off, leaving it slightly dirty and wet. Others were available, and more clean. The appetizer of fried dumplings was okay, being fried to a nice crispy texture, but the Special Sauce was just random soy sauce - no sesame oil, chili or garlic. I ordered Shrimp in Lobster Sauce, which arrived as a dish with very bland shrimp (rubbery and tasteless - frozen?) in vegetables (obviously frozen wilted peas and little square squishy pieces of carrots) canned mushrooms and a slippery sauce with not a hint of lobster, all for an atrocious price. This was my first time here. I wasn't impressed with the food. The shrimp fried rice was good. The sesame chicken was great and different, but the Mongolian beef. It was more trees then meat and it was a little rubbery for me. The staff was great and the atmosphere was pleasant but the food was not the best Chinese I have ever had before in life. Hadn't been here in several years, but will definitely be back more often! Went for lunch on a weekend and was very pleased to see the lunch specials were offered (rather than just Mon-Fri). Place is pretty dirty, the carpets should have been replaced years ago, strange tidbits and knick knacks collect dust all around you. I have never eaten here in my 20+ years living in Frederick. I only ever heard awesome reviews. In the snow storm tonight we ventured out to pick up our dinner order. $42 later we were disappointed in the quality of our three entrees. However, I was more disappointed after speaking with the manager. I explained that our vegetables were nearly raw, the chicken was overcooked in each dish, they all lacked sauce and flavor and we were given white rice when asked for fried. The manager refused to hear me, he said he had faith in his chef and told me we ordered white rice not fried! In so many words, he called me a liar. He didn't want to hear my displeasure. He offered me to bring the food back or he could refund me 15%. Both options would have required me to venture back out in the snow, what an insult to offer $6 if I would drive back in the snow. What ever happened to the idea that "the customer is always right?" I have NEVER written a Yelp review and $42 isn't that much money however this manager's response & solutions were unacceptable. read more

I don't get it! Voted Best of the Best? By whom? There are a few things China Garden has going for itself; the prices are pretty low, the "free" pickles are yummy & a nice touch, and the servers are friendly and very attentive. BUT their food is the absolute worst! Now, if you like stuff out of a can then you are in good hands but if you like fresh, tasty Chinese food, do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. I don't get the chicken wing that top each plate, either. The sweet sauce for the grab wontons was fruit cocktail thickens with corn starch. My shrimp noodle soup had canned mushrooms in it (Ewwww) and the broth was made from instant broth that tasted nothing but salty. My husband and I had dinner there tonight and it was a terrible experience. I asked the waiter a question about one of the entrees and he responded very rudely and with a lot of attitude. The sauce with the fried wontons was so sweet it was cloying. The shrimp in my husband's shrimp with cashew nuts were rubbery. The beef in my beef with snow peas was so tough I could barely cut it. The dish had no flavor except the soy sauce I added to it. Overall, a horrible meal. We won't be returning and suggest you don't bother. read more

I have literally never written a review but I will based on how bad this meal was. I ordered "triple delight" and "chicken w cashew nuts" two egg rolls and sub'd 1 white rice w fried rice. At my door I received a 45$ bill with inedible sour triple delight, a full meal order of pork fried rice and no egg rolls. After calling the restaurant, I received word that they had to send me a full me order of fried rice, and that they wouldn't sub (post order) and that's how their triple delight is served and I never ordered any egg rolls. I have thrown out over half my order on delivery. Don't waste your time, this place is garbage. It was an alternative to a place we used to go tot hat we liked but has since closed down, so sad we chose this...what a disgrace the worst Chinese we've ever had, literally...stay away! read more

I grew up eating China Garden. Quite literally. My mom and her parents used to eat here, my mom continued eating here when she was pregnant with me, continued eating here throughout my childhood and now adulthood. Alan and his family are wonderful, and their food is easily the best Chinese food in Frederick. Dining in their restaurant always brings back a flood of memories, as the decor hasn't changed in at least 28 years. I feel like I've eaten most of the menu, sushi included and I know everything I'm getting is fresh. This was actually the place where I had sushi for the first time, as I knew Alan, and I knew that he would never serve anything that wasn't incredibly fresh. Really a fan of their Fried Rice, (on all but one occasion) it's been super, moist, greasy and yummy, not dry and burnt up like other places...and like the Egg Drop Soup, Gen Tso's Shrimp. I wish they would offer a small size portion of the Fried Rice so I could buy it on the fly to go. read more

Great Chinese food. Best service in town, bar none. Allen Chiang is usually there, and customers, ALL customers, are number one in his book. They have a sushi bar, which is odd for a Chinese restaurant, but the sushi is fantastic, and VERY reasonably priced! I think Allen hired on a Japanese guy to do the sushi, and he lets him do his thing. They always bring spiced semi-pickled cucumbers, and always bring orange slices with the bill (along with your fortune cookie).
