The food here isn't that great. Please keep in mind that I went here last year. The first time I ordered food from Lucky House, I had the boneless sparerib lunch combo which came with an egg roll, pork fried rice and a can soda. The portion size of the boneless spare ribs was very sparse. There was more rice in the container than the meat. Then I ordered the dumplings with the General Tso's chicken dinner combination and the dumplings came apart and the rice was stale. There's not much I can say about the food here. I can't really say whether one place to the next is more "authentic" but I can say this place is what I had been searching for. Lunch portions are huge and under $6.00. Took mine to go and ended up tossing it in the trash. The egg roll was 100% cabbage with no seasonings or love at all. The pork fried rice and the chicken lo mein tasted exactly the same, like an old stale cooktop. Fair Chinese food at reasonable prices. Go for the $6 lunch special (entree with pork fried rice and egg roll or wonton soup). Not the best food you'll find in the area, but for the price, it'll fill you up! I'll go back in a month or so. I had the boneless pork ribs one time, and the beef w/broccoli another. Both were about average. My grandmother had the General Tso's, and said she enjoyed it. This used to be my standby, partially because the prices were low and there was no delivery fee, and partially because the food was excellent for the money. As usual change is the only constant. Prices just went up significantly as of 12/2012, and the quality of the food has been slipping over the last several years to a point that I'm not sure I want to order there much anymore. They are really hit-and-miss. When its good its great, but when it's not it's definitely not. It used to be that 4 out of 5 meals were incredible, with only about 20% of the time the food being subpar. Now 4 out of 5 times the food is a total disappointment. Sorry, wish I had better news, but I've been back 3 times and that's all the chances I give a place, not going to be disappointed again. About the only thing that's consistent is the fact that the cooks (old man and counter lady take turns, he delivers, and she mans phones too and will walk away from cooking to take an order, you can't do that!) never seem to get the timing right, something is either not done with the others (ie., eg roll), or its so overcooked its chewy/tough (looking at you, steamed dumplings). And the prices are whacky too- once my dinner was almost $20, most other times it was under $10. Orange chicken was overbreaded (gooey) huge pieces of dry (hard to swallow) white meat (wrong, should be moist thigh meat) in a flavorless sauce. Once the fried rice had no veggies in it at all except for a little onion, not even peas and carrots from a freezer bag or canned bean sprouts, not enough oil or soy sauce either to cut the dryness of the old rice. Moo shu pork was passable, but its mainly sauteed cabbage, hard to mess that up, and the pancakes tasted like stale little tortillas. And its still annoying that they speak so little English that you have to repeat your order 2 or 3 times before they get it right. You know what would help this place immensely? Hire a couple local high school or college students to handle the orders and maybe occasional delivery, and have the cooks stay in the kitchen and concentrate on their cooking skills. They do so little business that I'm sure they would say they can't afford it, but I think that little investment could easily double their income. read more

In my opinion, the food good for basic Chinese food and has improved since the last time I was here. I'd eat here again.

Worst General Tso's in Frederick. While the appetizers and Lo Mein is passable, it doesn't make up for a standard entrée being watery. The General Tso's Chicken is watery, sweet and over breaded. Pretty shabby first impression as the place sits in a dark strip mall with a very strange parking lot. While I was waiting for my food 2 cars got trapped by other parked cars. The parking situation gets 2 Stars! You have to see it for yourself. Once inside the greeting was warm and friendly. My Chicken with mixed veggies ($8.95) was ready quickly, was carefully packaged and remained very warm for my 15 minute drive home. Unfortunately, the tatse of the food was barely average ànd I have enjoyed fresher vegetables at 95% of to go places I've visited. Ànd, while my fortune was above average, the cookie wrapped around it was tasteless. So, if you're close by consider giving Lucky House a try as you may well have a better experience than mine. I found this restaurant last week and have gone there four times since. Each time I tried a new dish, both for lunch and for dinner. The food is delicious and of excellent quality. Any of the steamed chicken dishes (not breaded) are delicious even as leftovers heated up. There are loads of vegetables that come with the dishes! The quantity and quality of the food is far superior than the low prices so this is a huge plus! The steamed dumplings are the best I have ever had. They hand make them and they are not the typical frozen ones that other restaurants serve. The meat inside is extremely tasty! I can't say enough about how good this food is. The staff is attentive and accommodating! There is a small amount of MSG in their soups and dumplings but you can request that the entrees not have MSG. At my office, we order carryout lunch specials from Lucky House almost once a week. The prices are pretty low, the service is fast, and you get a lot of food for the money. It all tastes pretty good too. It's better than a number of much fancier restaurants. Now, it's really only set up for carryout or delivery--there's not much ambience and there are only a few tables.
