Friendly waitress until we told her the chicken didn't seem fresh. Not sure if they understood because they kept saying it's cooked fresh. The chicken had a smell, like it was left out too long. I liked it! They didn't have general tso's tofu, but they had Szechuan tofu, so I asked them if they could fry the tofu to crisp it up first. They said they could, but tbh the tofu wasn't crispy at all, hence the removal of one star. Other than that, the place sported a nice atmosphere and the food a nice--kinda spicy--flavor. Went here as a first timer with my family, and we were not disappointed. It's a little pricey, but everything we had was excellent. For appetizers, we tried the Crab Rangoon , egg roll, and the Chicken Lettuce Wraps. For some sushi, we tried the Crunchy Shrimp and a California roll. For dinners, we tried the garlic chicken, pork lo mein, chicken mai fun, and beef fried rice. Mochi varieties and a fried ice cream for dessert! Everything was great and would definitely get each again. Service was great, and the owner stopped at each table to make sure everyone was happy with their meals. China Garden never disappoints! From the minute you walk in the door you are greeted by not one, but several smiling faces. The waitstaff is always top-notch here. The sushi is always so delicious and fresh, why travel to Pittsburgh when we have this is our neighborhood. It's a nice little restaurant with a great atmosphere. It was pretty full when we arrived at 7pm on a Friday night but they quickly sat us and we enjoyed a delicious meal with leftovers. Unfortunately, I forgot to take pictures of the sushi, but we started with several pieces of sushi and 2 rolls. Then we each had a dinner and finished the meal with a fried banana. And, I love the extra touches like the little radish, handmade flowers that come on the dinner plates... they add a beautiful pop of color. Used to come to China Garden a lot growing up. It was our go to sit down Chinese restaurant. I was super excited when I saw that it was still open. We drove out to Norwin Town Square..where it was located..and umm..it wasn't there. And Norwin Town Square..a shopping plaza btw..was completely different. It was like they tore it all down and rebuilt it..with no China Garden. I was so bummed..but then we quickly realized that they had just moved into a stand alone location across the street. The new location is nice. Very big and open..very modern feeling inside. We were there on a Saturday afternoon and pretty much enjoyed a private dining experience. The staff here was really nice and accommodating. I felt nostalgia for and missed the old location, but this one, admittedly, is much much nicer. The prices here can get pretty steep but since we were there for lunch time we took advantage of their lunch specials. They were so unbelievably reasonably priced! I got the sesame chicken and an egg roll. I forgot how great the egg rolls were here. Very crisp and very favorable. They have the perfect amount of outer won-ton and filling. Delicious. The sesame chicken was great as well. The sauce had a really nice tang to it and the chicken was really crisp. I don't think I used to order this much (my old obsession was their sweet and sour), but I'm really glad I did. Again, another old school place from my childhood still up and kicking! Our other Chinese food spot, of almost 20+ years, recently changed owners, and after multiple chances since, we've decided to not waste any more money there--sad, but true. So, we gave this place a shot, and I'm so glad we did! Very clean exterior, with ample parking (and a decent crowd for a Sunday @5pm). Inside was nicely decorated, and clean. Greeted by very friendly staff, and seated promptly. Our server was a very nice and efficient young girl, who was extremely patient, and very willing to accommodate a tiny special ingredients request. We ordered the Crab Rangoons, which were simply the best I've ever had! I ordered Chicken Pad Thai which was delicious, and the chicken was very lean! My husband had Beef Kung Pao, which had good heat, great flavor, and a nicely cooked mix of veggies. Our waitress was all over the refills, as needed. It was a very pleasant experience from start to finish, and we're already looking forward to our next visit. The only trouble with this place is trying not to be too gluttonous when you order, bc everything on the menu sounds fantastic!! 2 soft drinks + 1 appetizer + 2 entrees = $34, Not bad at all, especially since we brought leftovers home, and it blew away the local competition, in both quality and flavor. read more

The menu selection was good and the pricing was not bad considering inflation is up a lot right now. I got an iced tea a lunch special and an avocado roll. It ran me $21 including a 20% tip. The only disappointment was the food. It was good but not great. The avocado in my roll was starting to brown and the vegetables I got were a bit too sauce heavy. Went here years ago and the general Taos was really good, today i went and got the walnut shrimp and it was pretty awful, had sweet n sour style breading(pancake like breading) was too much breading and the shrimp was very average and too chewy the sauce was pretty meh and not really sweet way too much Mayo I'm the sauce, and where is the walnuts anyways... the wonton soup is good as always as are the egg rolls, the lo mein wasn't bad tho, i wouldn't not return but i would never get the walnut shrimp again. read more

For those of you who may not know, China Garden has been a staple in the Irwin area for years....I remember going with my family when I was a kid. I can't say how long they've been around, but at least 25 - 30 years. China Garden recently moved into the old PNC Bank location from Norwin Towne Square. I enjoyed the old place, because I am a fan of comfort and of sitting at a booth. But, the new location is great as well! It's clean and has a nice atmosphere. Although, the restaurant is much smaller than the old place. Food is delicious! My husband usually gets their General Tso's and sushi....he prefers the Philadelphia and Spicy Tuna Rolls, although he loves anything he's every tried. I am not a fan of sushi...I've tried it a few times, but just really not my thing. I usually opted for either a Spring Roll or Wonton Soup and the Lettuce Wraps With Shrimp. They're delicious and a (slightly) healthier option, since you're not eating any rice or a heavy cream sauce. Best part? They're wraps are only $7.95. You can also get Lettuce Wraps With Chicken for a buck less. I know you have to be in the mood for Chinese, but when you are...China Garden is an excellent choice! read more
