Favorite restaurant in Monroeville PA ! Highly recommend if in Monroeville must stop !!! Lunch box is delicious

I've been going to Taipei Tokyo since high school, so it holds a special place in my heart. This was the place where I tried sushi for the first time. Besides the nostalgia, Taipei Tokyo always feels homey and cozy to me. I normally will get takeout from Asian restaurants, but this is one where I typically dine in when I visit. They have a very expensive menu- there is Chinese and Japanese food. I recently met my friend here for dinner on a Friday night. Even though the place was pretty busy, we were able to be seated right away. The service is good- efficient without being too overbearing. We ordered some tea and sushi. It was the perfect winter time meal to share with a friend.

The "shrimp" and no eel or cucumber in a "shrimp, eel, cucumber, tuna" roll

Put zero shrimp or eel in my shrimp and eel roll and charged me $20. Then wanted me to drive back to get a refund. This used to be a good place. Unfortunately, the customer service and effort have gone down hill.

Great sushi spot! Great for takeout or dine in. Located conveniently in Monroeville, plenty of parking. I go here for lunch at work a lot but have been for dinner as well. Amazing prices, good lunch specials, pretty good sushi! Very large menu with lots of other items/chinese food not just sushi Big restaurant and always packed! They do great business, quick service, very nice employees

I tried this place for lunch yesterday, $12 for both of these not bad at all! Everyone I dealt with at the restaurant was super nice, which is always refreshing. The sushi was good, i waited a little too long to eat it so I had to let it cool back down in the fridge at work but it was still delicious

Great restaurant in the Monroeville area. They have fantastic lunch specials. Their sushi is fresh and the food always comes out hot. The food is also served in a quick timely manor.

Beginners - the soup (hot and sour) smells very very different.

Every hibachi table was full in all of the rooms but we were in and out in about 1.5 hours and we didn't wait long to get our food. With so many tables cooking at once, the back room was very hot and didn't have a lot of ventilation, it was full of haze the whole time so I wasn't thrilled about that but overall it was a good dinner with a good amount of food.

As someone with a deep appreciation for a good hibachi meal (and a friends that take their food alter egos I randomly come up with seriously--shoutout to Wasabi Bobby), I can confidently say Ichiban delivers on all fronts. A perfectly cooked medium-rare steak? Check. Fluffy, rich fried rice that feels like a warm hug? Check. Veggies so good they could convert even the pickiest eater? Absolutely. But the real stars? The sauces. I don't usually drench my food in sauce, but when it comes to yum yum sauce, I want a whole volcano of it erupting onto my plate. And let's talk about the bonus: at Ichiban, you get both noodles *and* fried rice. Why choose when you can have the best of both worlds? If hibachi ever crosses your mind and you're wondering who's down to go--just know I'm already on my way. #GOUDapproved

The seafood is fresh, and the menu features several creative options. We tried a variety of items (Nigiri, Temaki, Takoyaki, and the daily specials) and honestly loved everything! As sushi lovers, we shared several small plates and really appreciated the quality. The fish-to-rice ratio was spot on. I loved the vibe: very hipster, complete with a DJ. Next time, we'd love to sit at the counter facing the kitchen for that authentic Japanese experience. Our server was so sweet and gave us some great recommendations. Even though it was busy, the timing of the courses was perfect. Highly recommend!

I highly recommend a reservation as they do not take many walk ins, especially for big parties and definitely take advantage of their happy hour menu (5-6pm). Their HH menu allows you to try some of their most popular bites for a fraction of the cost! Items that we ALWAYS order are the karaage, stir fried udon wit shrimp tempura, at least 3 skewers, the lychee martinis, Takoyaki, and some variation of toro. We try to mix in others every time and have never had a bad bite! Servers are always so kind to us and can't wait until my next visit! Hopefully it's soon!

Reservations are highly recommended - it's on the smaller side. The menu has so many options and an amazing variety. One thing to note is this Japanese food is not like most others. Its focus is on homestyle, also fried/stir fried Japanese dishes. So do not expect Ramen or noodle soups. A couple things that are always ordered is the Kaarage, Takoyaki, Okonomiyaki (best in the city), yakisoba or udon, and gyoza. The staff is so sweet and the decorations remind me of Izakaya places in larger cities. They have a bar with cool cocktails and adorable bento boxes they sell during lunch hours throughout the week. Cannot recommend this place enough!!

The takoyaki has a crunchy outside and a good flavor (4/5), and the okonomiyaki is pretty filling (4/5); these were the best two. The yaki-udon with shrimp was ok (3/5) but definitely expensive for what it was and the quantity; they also don't add much shrimp, despite the up charge. The sake no shioyaki was below average for salmon (2/5) and very expensive for that amount they give you. Similarly, the onigiri is almost entirely rice if you add salmon (2/5). You order on a tablet, and they bring the food out. Service was ok (3/5); we had empty waters for a while. The restaurant is well-decorated, and you can see the chefs work, which gives it an ambiance somewhat like a hibachi place (4/5). Overall, I think most of the items are pretty expensive for what they are; they don't have the quality or quantity to justify the price.
