Not authentic If you're from California you'll agree with me that this isn't "gourmet". I'm sorry but I can't give it higher than two stars at best because the fried rice doesn't taste like fried rice. There's nothing in it. Very little anything. It's almost like just colored white rice, very bland. The Mongolian Beef was worse. It tasted nothing like Mongolian Beef. Very little meat with lots of yellow onion and hardly any green onions BUT because I was hangry I ate half of it and I couldn't bring myself to finish the whole thing. The egg roll that came with the combo meal was okay. Didn't finish it either. Food was made fresh to order and was ready piping hot in a few minutes. Good service. This place is not somewhere you want to take your date, but the food is actually pretty darn good for a hole-in-the-wall. Strongly suggest taking your food and eating elsewhere. One of these days, I am going to do a post about the best egg rolls in Chattanooga. China Gourmet is definitely in my top 3 for flavor, texture and reliability. Typical repeat orders for me include: Chef Special Fried Rice, Stir Fried Tofu, Steamed Dumplings, Fried Dumplings and Moo Shu Chicken. The sauce served with the dumplings is super good and I usually end up dumping it on whatever I am eating. So glad this place is here, as it is hard to find reliably good Chinese food in Chattanooga that is not a buffet. read more

Would give zero stars if I could. This food was not good. It went immediately into the trash can. No, thank you. Chicken and broccoli was tasteless, crab rangoon wrapper tasted like it was fried in rancid oil, and the general tsos chicken was cooked into one ball of unrecognizable mystery meat. Ew. read more

Our family of five went here because the reviews were so good about the food. We found it easily in an almost abandoned part of town. The food is good. Really good. All made from scratch right down to hand rolled egg rolls and won tons. The staff were nice, courteous and helpful. That's the good part. This is the bad..... If you decide to get food from here, and I suggest that you do, pick it up or have it delivered. It was VERY HOT in the restaurant. It was 91 outside, and not much cooler inside. Also; if you expect to keep anything you eat inside your stomach, DO NOT USE THE BATHROOM. That being said; I would order food from here again. Positive stars for being open late (although the fact that at 9:00 PM one needs to look for "open late" restaurants in this town is another story) and for making a take out order quick. Sadly, that's the only positive, because the food was anything but gourmet. Beef in garlic sauce might have well have been beef in sesame oil. Egg roll squirts oil when bitten into. Soup has an oily sheen to it. Edible, but nothing more, and you have that "just eaten Chinese takeout" feeling afterwards. read more

GREAT food!! I called the owner to ask if he would let me order even though we would be arriving at the hotel next door at their closing time. The owner stayed open for us since we were a little late and had our food hot and ready. This is my second time having their food since the hotel next door is our stopping point from FL to IL. Obviously these were essential as the food was delivered to a hotel. Y'all - this place leaves much to be desired. My husband ordered General Tso's Chicken and fried rice. He said the chicken was ok, the rice was awful. I had Chicken Lo Mein & it had zero flavor. We also each had a pork egg roll (gross). My kids had the side of Lo Mein & that was pretty good. They have random boxes stacked up in a corner & it's overall just dingy and sticky.
