I secretly love China House... It's not because the food here is great or the service or the building itself. It's just some really great memories happened here. Mostly funny stories or ridiculous challengs that ended up being one of those long standing inside jokes... you wouldn't get it. This is your standard run of mill "Chinese" buffet that also has an hibachi grill, sushi, and some regular American food! To be honest adding the hibachi grill and sushi a couple years ago was a nice touch. It's not bad, not great either but it's always consistently average. They normally have steamed crab legs which I guess are ok too! They're honey chicken, crab rangoon, and fried donut are actually good. I always love coming to buffets like this that serve mashed potato's, garlic bread, pizza, etc. It may say China Buffet but what they really mean is anything that white people will eat in mass. So I guess if you want a buffet that's priced well, actually not sure how they make money, then this is for you. I'd say it's a... Why not try it? read more

This is one of our family favotires. The food is good, it's reasonably priced, you never have to wait for a table even on busy days, during lunch we haven't had to wait. The kids all love it and it has something for everyone. It's great for a quick lunch when you're working on a tight schedule. I am impressed with the fact that there are always food in the little hot bins or whatever you call them. In other buffet type restaurants if you get there on an off time, then you are waiting around until they bring more of the food out or you end up with eating the scraps. I have never seen an empty tray here. There is so much variety from the traditional Chinese food, to pizza, garlic bread, crab, fish, stuffed mushrooms so there is something for everyone. They have different types of sushi too and everything always tastes fresh. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for anyone who likes chinese buffets and wants a good one quickly. read more

Haven't been here in a very long time- maybe 10 years ago.. anyways, man have they changed! The place looks clean and new like. There was a lady who stood by the food to kept it very clean and warm. Which I thought was a plus.. you never really see that at buffets. The food was really good as I'm picky about buffets. The sushi even was delicious and good size pieces. Since the remodel, China House has removed crab legs from the buffet (boo!) and added a sushi bar. The sushi is quite awful. Don't bother. Other than that, all your Chinese favorites are still there including pizza, cheese sticks, jello, and ice cream. lol But seriously, it's a decent value and the food is good. read more

I've heard rave reviews about this place, and my very limited buffet experiences have been good - so expectations were probably a little high. The host greeted us, brought us over to a table and wordlessly walked away. Fortunately everything was pretty self-explanatory. There is a large selection and it's easy to miss something with all the variety. There are rows of dishes, from Chinese-ish food, to pizza/mac&cheese type fare, and a variety of desserts. There are a couple of soups available off to the side, rice cookers with fresh steamed rice. There is a hibachi station and sushi as well. I was not crazy about the food at all. We came mid-afternoon so not at a peak time, but I did notice the employees adding fresh food occasionally. I wasn't crazy about most of the food I tried. It ranged from mediocre to terrible. The pepper steak was the worst. Maybe something was wrong with it that night. The meat had a very odd taste. My friend tried it after I commented, and looked ready to spit it out after a couple of bites, and said it was definitely off. I feel bad for wasting so much food I put on my plate and ended up not even wanting to finish. I didn't try the hibachi. By the time I noticed it, the line was pretty long. But it looked possibly good. If I somehow end up back there, that's one thing I'd want to try. You do get a lot of food for the money, and there is a lot of food to choose from. No one in my group seemed overly impressed with the food, but seemed willing to visit again because of the value. read more

Last few times I ate here have been questionable at best. I saw where some reviews had mentioned the food temperature, this is spot on and has happened more than once. I visited just recently exactly when they turned they open sign on and thought this will be great as the food ''should'' be fresh and steaming hot- yeah right.... The meat was less than warm and had an odd taste, I watched the staff put some of these items out and I wonder if some of these dishes are leftovers or just old, idk?.? A couple of the vegetable dishes seemed acceptable, but that's being generous. I tried to give it a chance more than once, but this last visit (11/28/16) screamed GAME OVER! Pretty decent buffet for the DeKalb/Sycamore area. The restaurant was clean, the servers were friendly and there was a wide variety of food at the buffet, including fresh sushi. The only thing that could improve this buffet would be to have a few more Chinese dishes on the buffet that are out of the norm instead of American dishes. Chicken and Snow Peas would be a great addition! Also, crab legs would be nice, as well! read more

We love China House. Ive been to a few Chinese buffets before and this one is by far the best. They have pretty much everything... including crab legs. (I think that maybe for dinner only) They are not at all the best quality but they are good enough. I always find something interesting to try. I am impressed by this place. Usually buffets are completely gross and I would never step inside. They have sushi, stir fry and an abundance of food tables. If you notice, there may not be a ton of food during the week. This is done, so they make it fresher. If something runs out, you just have to ask. They only steam about 10 dumplings at a time. While I have to wait, it is nice to have FRESH hot food. The people are nice and it is a great place for groups. They do not mind splitting checks and keep your tables clean. If you are wary, go for lunch it is a little cheaper. The parking lot is pretty big so it is nice that you never have to worry about a spot. read more

It's a chinese buffet. The owner and hostesses are extremely friendly, unfortunately the wait staff not so much. They tend to make it feel like a real obligation to bring things and can be slow bringing the check. The food is well stocked at all times and the fare is standard for this type of local, however there is a very good variety. They do have a bait shop....errr...sushi available and a grill that will cook to order. One suggestion. They open at 11 however food does not come out till around 11:30 or so. You will have a wait. Inexpensive and the only chinese buffet in the area. I would recommend it. read more

I am a fan of China House. There is never a wait fir a table because no matter how packed the parking lit is they have a large sitting area. The buffet has a lot of options from sushi to basic Chinese food we see everywhere to crab legs. There are about 4-5 different buffet tables with all the options. Wow, a real mixed bag here. On the positive side, lots of variety. They even have pepperoni pizza, and it is not too bad. Their selection of fruit is pretty good. Fresh cut cantaloupe, very good. Lots of the other fruit from cans. Fresh grapes. They even have little creme brulees made with wanton wrappers. Also, not too bad for a Chinese buffet. Lots of different kinds of Chinese food. The hot and sour soup is pretty good. Okay, the bad side. The food is kind of greasy. I know, you are saying at a Chinese buffet? Well, even for a Chinese buffet, a lot of the food is kinda greasy. Taste is okay. Nothing to get too excited about. Lots of chicken dishes not too much beef or pork. Additionally, they do have a sushi bar. Is bar the right word? Not sure. Apparently, the sushi is pretty good. Only had it once and it was okay. Also, they have a grill where you put a bunch of raw meat and vegetables on a plate and the guy grills it up for you. They have a variety of sauces to cook it with. This is probably the best part of this buffet. Hot and fresh. This is highly recommended. You should probably tip this guy at least a buck. China House is great. There is such a wide variety of foods to choose from in addition to the Chinese food. There is pizza, tacos, fried chicken, mashed potatoes, the list goes on and on. The food may not be the BEST food ever, but with the great selection, you can't really go wrong. Plus, there is a soft serve ice cream machine. It's great. All you do is come in, get seated, the waitress takes your drink order (but go with water, because the soda is what gets you on price...) then you go and help yourself at the buffet. Throughout your meal, waitresses will come and take your finished plates. I love it. I'd give it five stars, but like I said, the food isn't always the most amazing thing ever. The best time to go is for lunch during the week. It's the cheapest. Also, after a night of drinking, it's good hangover food! read more

This place was absolutely disgusting, $10 for a plate of trash, don't eat here, ever I went in with a good impression, the outside smelled amazing, I then went up to grab my plate and was so disappointed in what they had in store. The crawfish I put on my plate started leaking a yellow liquid, the fish tasted like cardboard, the sushi wasn't even sushi; it's the type of crap I would buy at a gas station. The tea also tasted like feet. I couldn't even complain because my waiter didn't even speak English. If this place has a good review its because the person who wrote that review has never been to an actual decent Chinese place. Save yourself. read more

This place is THE nastiest place anymore. Its really sad how the food quality has run way below pig slop. The first issue is the extra food from other items in the raw food for the stir fry. Then how the cook has no clue of raw food cross contamination issues. I watched him go from one persons food with spicy sauce to another without changing spatulas . So when he was ready for mine i asked him to NOT use those spatulas with the spicy sauce on my food. The guy looked at me and said ok. So not one second after that he started turning my food with the spicy contaminated sauce spatula even though he acted like he understood my request. Since i cant handle spicy foods because of health issues. I told him i will not eat that food and went looking for a manager. So after telling the lady who said she was the manager that i was not happy and that i will not be eating any of the food. I told her to remove the cost from our bill and she just rolled her eyes. I then said if the cook can not understand English then maybe he should not be cooking peoples food. We will never return thats a promise. This buffet is a little out of our way to go to, but it is the family favorite and we find plenty else to do when we go there. We usually only go for the lunches and while there isn't a lot that changes each visit, what they do serve is usually fresh and very good. BEST Chinese buffet we've ever had! So good that we come at least once a week. Everything is always hot and fresh and if it happens to be cold they will make fresh for you. The peanut butter chicken (yes we were a bit hesitant too but O M G we crave it now) angel hair noodles, spicy shrimp, crab Rangoon and spring rolls are all AMAZING! I would have given 5 stars but the waitstaff they have is so unfriendly. We waited for refills and nobody came and when we saw the waiter he was eating fruit and playing in his iPad. Break time? We're there on a Friday around 2:30 pm, found that several items on the buffet were not hot. I'm sure if the health department made a visit they would have received a fail. I told the cashier at the front and she did get a person out to stir the food and adjust the temperatures, but I am concerned about eating food off the buffet that is not hot. Someone could get sick. We just moved to dekalb. Read the reviews for china house & they said good things. We often eat at Chinese, Japanese, habachi, ect. Never all in one. We were severely disappointed in the food. The chicken fried rice was unlike any I've ever seen before and was gross. The Kung pow chicken was also lacking in flavor and the chicken had the weirdest texture. Also the egg rolls were unedible. Very large Chinese buffet with additional Mongolian grill and sushi bars. I have not tried either, always sticking to the traditional buffet items, but lots of people take advantage of the grill. All of the buffet classics are there, plus plenty of American options like pizza and macaroni. There is an entire buffet station of seafood as well, including assorted fish, shrimp, frog legs, crawfish, and even more adventurous items. Lots of items for vegetarians, too. (A couple for vegans). Service is always prompt, there's ample seating inside no matter how packed the parking lot looks. Well worth a stop, anyone can find something to eat here! read more

horrible customer service! BUG IN MY PLATE. I sat down to eat then noticed a bug in my food. when I told the waitress she laughed in my face as if it was a joke. they would not refund nor discount! I asked to speak to manager. he wasn't there. she called him on the phone. alright so its a buffet guys, the quality isn't going to be AMAZING, but I think it is pretty darn good for the prices! It is $12 ALL YOU CAN EAT. You can't beat that, especially when they have a mongolian chef who will make you a bowl of the ingredients you choose AND a sushi bar! of course the sushi isn't top notch, but it is not *omg I have to go to the bathroom right now* sushi! They have such a huge selection. I really like the sushi bar, the pot stickers, their rice noodle pasta, and pretty much everything! They also have a huge bar just for deserts which is nice, it is filled with fresh fruit and cakes, and also a little ice cream machine. I've heard a lot of great things about this place, but when I actually tried it out, it wasn't as great as I thought it would be. About half of the foods that I tried with barely warm, as if the food has been sitting in the buffet area for awhile. The soda we received was flat. When we brought it to the attention of the staff, they said they would change it and refill our cups, but when we got our refills, they were still flat. I think I will go again, but not anytime soon. read more
