Did take out, food is left unattended for you to pick up. Ordered the eggs rolls and vegetable fried rice, it was good and not overly salty with MSG. I will say the parking out front of the restaurant is a shi* show at 6pm so do yourself a favor and park in the parking garage and walk. As a Chinese person, I was confused by the name choice of this restaurant. Not sure why they decided to name it Szechuan when literally nothing on their menu contains any flavors/dishes/ingredients even remotely characteristic of that region. The food that we did order-- mapo tofu, scallops, and fried rice were all exceedingly bland. No spice whatsoever nor salt, really. Everything was just covered in sort of a sticky sweet sauce. Definitely caters to... a certain demographic. If you're looking for authenticity or flavor, go somewhere else. read more

Good asian dinner! My husband and I were excited to try out this local restaurant and had a nice, quiet dinner here. We made 7pm reservations on a Saturday night and were surprised to see that we were the only customers. While this was a little concerning, we observed that there were a lot of takeout orders waiting to be picked up by the host stand. Eventually, there ended up being 4 occupied tables throughout our dinner. The waitress we had was very nice and kept our waters full. I ordered the double fried noodles, and my husband ordered the sweet and sour chicken. Aside from being pretty salty, I enjoyed my entree. There was a mix up with my order, so they had to remake it, but did so very quickly. I would order the double fried noodles again. My husband wasn't very impressed with the sweet and sour chicken though. Similar to something you'd find in a Chinese buffet line. Too much breading and not enough chicken. However, he is looking forward to trying something else on the menu next time! While it wasn't the best first experience, we plan to return in the future :) read more

Had dinner here tonight. This is third time we've eat here. Must say, the drinks and food were great as usual. We just had a lovely dinner at Szechwan in Saint Charles. We were immediately seated, with no wait and not rushed to leave after we completed our meal. The server was very attentive, helpful, and friendly. The menu provided many wonderful options. The food was fresh and delicious. We enjoyed: 1) shrimp in a garlic sauce; 2) a chicken and vegetable dish; 3) a sizzling rice cake chicken and vegetable dish; and 4) the classic lo mein noodles with shrimp dish. We also had a very flavorful tea with our meal. The dining room has a wonderful ambiance. The lighting and decor was very pleasing, complete with piano music playing in the background. Szechwan is everything you're looking for in a local Chinese restaurant. The quality matches the pricing. Highly recommend the Beef on-a stick, Crab Wontons, and the Mongolian Beef. My wife and I always order and utilize the hot and sour soup as our measurement as to whether the place is good or not. Theirs is exceptionally great. Man, this place has gone down hill! I grew up in St. Charles and we always loved Szechwan. My husband and I tried it last night and it was not great. We got a pork fried rice and half the meat was entirely fat. Not to mention the rice itself had a weird texture and not a great taste. We got mu shu pork which was okay but not as good as some other places in the area. The egg rolls were disappointing and had the shell of a spring roll and we're basically see through they were so greasy. Overall, for $35 for 3 items, we were very disappointed. read more

Don't get the "4 + stars" that Szechwan gets on Yelp. The inside is very clean and nice, our server was spot on.....that's why I gave it 2 stars. Started out with the egg rolls, what could possibly go wrong with those? They were greasy beyond greasy and no flavor, deep fired in "dirty/old grease". Our server brought out sweet n sour and hot mustard sauces to put on them but it didn't help much. The "sweet n sour" sauce lacked any flavor or sweetness. The mustard helped break down the grease. My wife ordered the Lemon Chicken, she got the Chicken Lo Mien. Oh well, there was a bit of a problem communicating with our server. My wife said it was probably for the best. I ordered the Sweet n Sour chicken, not bad bad but not much for what you pay for. We ordered a side of pork fried rice. How can one screw up pork fried rice??? We'll they did! Was so much sodium in this dish and had no flavor whatsoever! We should have bolted out when we saw only 2 other people here at dinner time. I went here on St. Valentines Day for lunch with the wife and mother in law (MIL). I didn't expect much since the MIL is 150 years old and we went to this place because it is across the street from the old lady's apartment in St. Charles. We didn't want to make the old lady walk too far in 12 degree weather. We got lucky because this restaurant is delicious. The service was seamless. There were 2-3 servers who monitored us and constantly refilled our ice teas. I had Phoenix and Dragon. It was more than any human can eat and delicious. The wife had ma po tofu, which she loved. The servers brought us more steamed rice when requested and even offered to send some home with us. The MIL is glucose intolerant (because she is old not because it's trendy). The servers were very accommodating on that issue, even providing gluten free soy sauce. The soups were also good. Sweet and sour and egg drop were as good as expected. MIL got an interesting soup called sizzling shrimp that involved rice cakes being dropped into the broth. I wish i had ordered it. Next time I am in St. Charles, I will insist on going to this restaurant. read more

Crab rangoon were awesome, potstickers are made from scratch, Mongolian beef was super flavorful and tender, beef chop suey was delicious. Our friends had sesame seed chicken and garlic chicken which both looked awesome as well! The food was ready for us in only 15 minutes and we were out the door to Pollyanna to enjoy some Chinese food and beer. :) I would absolutely order from here again and try more items. They were very weird. The sweet and sour sauce was neither sweet or sour. The pot sticker sauce tasted like chicken broth. I found myself searching for leftover sauces in the fridge.
