Chinese food in the Pocono Mountains isn't something we usually get, but my son was craving it yesterday. The Shrimp Lo Mein was delicious. The Cashew Chicken was made very differently than our neighborhood Chinese restaurants. It could have been more spicy and the chicken was breaded. I have never had Cashew Chicken breaded before. We've been going to the China House in Hawley, Pennsylvania for years, and it's hands down one of our favorite spots for dinner. Whether we're dining in or bringing it home, the food is always fresh, flavorful, and satisfying. I personally can't get enough of their shrimp and broccoli--perfectly cooked shrimp with tender-crisp broccoli in a delicious sauce. Their cashew chicken is another one of my go-to dishes--rich, savory, and packed with flavor. Every dish we've tried has been consistently excellent. The prices are very reasonable, the portions are generous, and the people are incredibly kind and welcoming. Way below minimal standards for your average take out Chinese joint. All food was bland. Egg Foo Yung was meh, the gravy was sweet (sweet gravy? Who... why?), all fried foods were over cooked and too oily, oil was not changed and tasted like fish, prices are almost double what is listed. Nothing was fresh. The Pork Fried Rice was just okay, the rest I couldn't finish. I have no idea what the good reviews of this restaurant are talking about. If they are not shills, then they must think cafeteria food is gourmet. The service is bad, but who cares? It's take out. You don't want to eat in here, it's a dive and not the kind of place you eat in. I don't mind a dive if the food is good. The first person to open up a decent Chinese or Asian restaurant in this area is going to make a mint, because there is no competition. The best Chinese takeout in the area! Our family's favorites are: chicken and broccoli, general tso, and lo mein. The chicken and broccoli is so flavorful with a good sauce. General tso is so crispy and the sauce is great. The lo mein has a great char flavor to it! Crab rangoon, scallion pancakes, and hunan beef were also excellent. been going to this restaurant for take out for the past 4 yrs. it seems that there has been a change in ownership sometime over the last year. I normally get gen'l tso's chicken. It has been ok. Decent portions. Tonite I changed it up and ordered the steamed scallops with broccoli. In every Chinese restaurant I've ever ordered this dish the scallops & broccoli come in one container, with a small container of white rice on the side. Not here. I got a container 1/2 white rice, 1/2 broccoli, with a measly 5 scallops ( the small ones) as a garnish, certainly disproportionate -for $11.25 pictures attached. Totally disappointing. New ownership in 2023. Most menu recipes are unchanged. *Except the vegetable fried rice is yellow rice with peas, carrots, cabbage, broccoli, and bean sprouts. It was very bland. I believe I can give this restaurant the distinction of being the worst Chinese food I have ever eaten. I grew up in San Francisco which has a large Chinese American demographic, and Chinese restaurants are abundant. This food was tasteless, unrecognizable, and just downright bad. Sone of the food is ok but they don't want you to sit in the restaurant to eat. They have the table full of stuff so you can't sit down to eat. You have to take your food and leave. They do t take amy debit or credit cards which is a hassle for many people. There is a bank across the street but they charge a fee for using the ATM if you don't have an account with them which makes it even more of a hassle. The people who work there seem to be nice and the place is clean which is always a good thing. They don't deliver to anyone, not even anyone nearby who is disabled which makes them lose money since there are lots of disabled people living nearby. They keep charging more for their food but making the containers smaller which makes customers unhappy. read more

We just moved here recently and happy to see Chinese food so close to us.. We were very happy with our order the first time.. The food was really really good BUT after ordering a few times we saw that they aren't consistent and sometimes forget to put things in the bag ... So the food is usually good . This is better than most New York City Chinese takeout places. That's a high compliment. The sauces aren't too sweet, salty, heavy, or spicy, which is what ruins so many other takeout joints. There's not too much oil. The meat is tender. The shrimp isn't fishy. Everything is prepared with care. It tastes like it's for adults, not like fast food Chinese. But my kid loves it too, which, she's not easy to please. For takeout Chinese, it's ideal. The prices are fair too. I'm giving it five stars because I can't recall having better Chinese from a hole in the wall like this. China House surprises, and wins. Caveat: It's still just takeout Chinese and you still feel less than great after eating it lol but you know, that's how takeout Chinese is. This place has the best Chinese food I've had in my entire life! Hands down the best Chinese food in north east pa!!! Everything I have ever ordered here was incredibly delicious. Not only that but their take out is always quick... usually only a 15-20 minute wait. I get food here once or twice a month. Only complaint I have is that you cannot pay with a debit/credit card so make sure you come with cash! From out of town and called in an order. Took almost a dozen rings for the woman to answer. Took my order (General Tso combo with 2 pork egg rolls. She hung up without a thank you, giving me a total, or telling me how long. When I arrived I noted a small dining area with no one eating and several people waiting. When it was my turn I told her what I had ordered and she put it in a paper bag and took my 20 without comment. I noticed that they do not take credit cards but have an ATM so the customers can pay the fees and they don't have to. When I took my order out of the store I immediately noticed it was extremely hot, so hot in fact I had to keep switching hands to hold the bag. My local Chinese takeout uses a piece of cardboard for insulation. China house does not. When I returned to my hotel I noticed that I had three egg rolls (score!). I looked at the General Tso's chicken and it looked really red. I thought that it was going to be really spicy hot. Nope. It was BBQ sauce and not the sauce that is usually on GT's chicken. The fried rice that came with it was the best fried rice I have had in a really long time. Three stars because the chicken was edible but not what I ordered, but the rice was excellent. read more

I've been going there for over ten years and have tried every other local place and none of them have even compared! They do not accepts cards, but they do have a very convenient ATM right next to the counter. I used to enjoy going here to get some good Chinese food. I noticed recently that the containers for take out are smaller and the prices are a bit higher than what they were. The food is good but I wish they wouldn't have switched to smaller containers. They don't accept credit cards but they have an ATM there for people to use and pay bank fees. The dining area is small and hardly any room for people to sit there and eat in. During the summer months they don't use an air conditioner and the place get VERY HOT!! The floor in the dining area always looks dirty. With all the people that go in and out of that place they track in a lot of dirt but you never see anyone using a broom to sweep it up. They can have 1 of the teenage kids that are there hanging around sweep the floor but the kids are always hanging out at a table or in the kitchen. read more

Very disappointed with the serve, the woman working the front, taking orders was unwelcoming, she put my change on the counter and had an attitude when I asked for a fork for my to go food, to top it off she put the fork I had to ask for on the counter. yes, on the counter. Good local Chinese food - sesame chicken is great. Their diet menu is also really good if you need to watch salt intake.
