I don't know if you remember Alberts or not but this business is the next best thing to it. The food is awesome hot and delicious great portions, the one dish I recommend is the chicken chow mein sub gum. I recommend the lo mein (although it does have bamboo shoots and mushrooms which I'm not used to, wasn't bad though) and the crab rangoons (it has the green bits in it for extra flavor). The sweet and sour shrimp is perfectly fried and crispy, so yummy! House special shrimp is also delicious! I would recommend getting white rice as a side rather than fried, because I think the fried rice is not as special unless you get it as a whole dish (just from experience at other restaurants, have yet to try it here). I absolutely do not recommend the chow mein because it has those crispy noodle toppings you use for salad instead of actual noodles?? I don't know why they do that, but I don't like it at all. The dish itself would be so delicious if it had real noodles. The flavor is really good, but the crispy things - I have never seen that done. They give you an almond cookie AND a fortune cookie after you're done with your meal. That's funny. Another note - they give you this orange marmalade looking sauce when you order fried things I think. I wish they had the typical sweet and sour sauce you see at American Chinese restaurants. Love the food at China Inn. Hunan beef and crispy orange beef are our favorites. Service is great.

This location is very knowledgeable about their menu, and serves amazing food (highly recommend Kung Pao Chicken and Egg Drop Soup). Prices are reasonable. Full glass windows near the front and sides of the building allow adequate lighting to come in (not dark inside). If you are a local or just someone driving through Wichita, stop here to get a bite. In my opinion, this place deserves ranked among the top places in Wichita to get Chinese. :) read more

Im giving a generous three stars. Ordered kungpow delight lunch portion. Egg drop soup was meh... not too much flavor, contained cut up baby corn. Egg roll was very good. The delight is to have chicken and shrimp, mine came only with three overcooked shrimp, no chicken. I didn't care much as Im not a huge chicken fan. Read most of my reviews of Chinese restaurants and you'll see a lot the same ho-hum meat-veggie-sauce rhetoric that I espouse to fill up space and make it seem like I'm not completely ambivalent. I was fully expecting China Inn to be another one of these kind of places, which is why I've put off visiting for four years. Joke's on me, because after finally stopping in, I'm surprised to find a Chinese restaurant that's doing something more than the absolute minimum. In my effort to try as many different things as possible, I convinced my date to try the family meal with me, and my interest was piqued from the moment I was given my wonton soup: it was seasoned! The dumplings weren't just filled with little pieces of pieces of mystery meat, but large pieces of pork! With additional pieces of pork just kind of chilling out in the broth! It was perhaps the best version of the soup I've ever had, if only because it wasn't the same. There was effort here. Along with soup, the family dinner came with sample size portions of spare ribs, tender but in a sickly sweet sauce, a decent egg roll, and an average "puffy" (tempura fried) shrimp. The attempts at differentiation continued with the main courses: the pepper beef and sweet and sour pork. It tasted like they started with actual cuts of meat, which worked fine for the beef, though it was rough going with the pork, which was much chewier than was enjoyable. Compounding issues was the sauce, which was much more sweet than sour, although brownie points went to the large chunks of pineapple and actual cuts of cabbage used to provide a little bit of contrast in flavors and textures. When asked if I wanted fried or steamed rice, I opted for one of each, expecting the fried rice to be greasy. What I got instead was a dark, rich, and not-at-all-greasy rendition that was another surprising success. The dinner ended with a complimentary almond cookie. China Inn is not your run-of-the-mill Chinese restaurant that's just serving the Americanized Chinese food that the Great Walls of the city are churning out; it's making attempts to make this food taste good through the use of better ingredients and going above and beyond the bare minimum. Been wanting to try this place for awhile and used my Dr's appt as an excuse to finally try it!! As usual, I reviewed them Online and read their Menu before going. I prefer that, in case it's busy, Well, when I entered the building that has 2 Specials with 'Spicy' Garlic Chicken and a 'Spicy' Sesame Chicken Luncheon Specials for $6.95. Decor is very Modern Asian! So when my Server 'Kim' arrived I asked her the difference between the 2 and also asked about their 'Kung Pao' Chicken. None of them had my favorite Zucchini / Squash veggies -- but the Garlic Chicken had Onion, Carrots, Pea Pods and Red Bell Pepper -- so I chose that one! The Luncheon Special comes with Soup, Rice and an Egg Roll.. So Kim offered me a choice between 'Egg Flour' and 'Hot and Sour' Soups -- she described both and I chose the 'Egg Flour'. Which had some actual Chicken, Veggies and Egg. Seasoned very well -- I loved it!! When she presented my Lunch -- it was BEAUTIFUL!! The Egg Roll was cut into 1/3's -- which I appreciated. She also brought to the table a Peachy Sweet and Sour Sour and a Wasabi Mustard (great for Egg Roll Dipping). The rice wasn't much more than a steamed rice with some soy sauce. But that's okay -- that's my preference!! I ordered a Long Island Iced Tea -- which was $6.95. I had just had a bunch of medical tests, where they probed areas in my body that I wasn't too happy about -- so I felt justified!! And it was good, Lemony and not overwhelming! We had high hopes for this restaurant as there's few choices for Cantonese dining in Wichita but this one just doesn't cut it. read more

I give China Inn 4 stars for the following reasons below: Pros - Amazing STEAMED DUMPLINGS for appetizer (very fresh) - CHICKEN WITH ORANGE FLAVOR had a great flavor and crunch - KUNG PAO SHRIMP had a good spice to it - Big Portions - Very clean and well decorated establishment Cons - EGG DROP SOUP was too salty - KUNG PAO CHICKEN was okay (for some reason, the shrimp tasted way better even though they were on the same dish) - Fake Jellyfishes :) Overall, I enjoyed my first time here. This is my wife and I's FAVORITE Chinese Restaurant in the City of Wichita. We have been customers of this restaurant for at least 20 years, and go back there on a weekly basis. Our children love to eat there as well. I highly recommend the Egg Drop Soup, anything with a sweet and sour sauce on it, Kung Pu Chicken, Kung Pu Shrimp, Sesame Chicken & Sesame Shrimp. My son and I ate here Jan 2, 2017 and thoroughly enjoyed our meals. We both had the fried rice, he had the sweet and sour chicken, and I had the Kung Pao chicken. For $10 each, the meals were good sized portions and neither of us left hungry. The service was a little slow at opening, but picked up after they'd gotten everything in order... This is my go to place for American- Chinese food in Wichita. I moved to the west side but still make the drive out east to go here. Their building is small but spacious and includes a full bar. They keep it very neat inside. China Inn makes amazing crab rangoon that they serve with a special plum sauce (no sweet and sour sauce available here, but you won't miss it!) I almost always get the sesame chicken and it never disappoints. I really like their fried rice, too. The servers are super fast and very friendly; my glass is never empty...or even half empty! My meal always comes out quick, fresh, and hot. Huge portions at a good price-- a typical dinner serving will feed my boyfriend and me and still leave me leftovers for lunch the next day! Some dishes are great like the sweet and sour dishes. But others not so much because the leave their meat in huge pieces. Not very pleasant.

Good Chinese can be a hit and miss proposition. Took a shot at China Inn and ordered some Pork Lo Mein and some ChickenFried Rice to go. The egg rolls were extremely over-cooked. Normally you'd expect them to have a kind of light-brown type of look (like in the picture on their yelp page), but these were nearly black and the flavor was, unsurprisingly, that of a burned egg-roll. The Pork Lo Mein looked like is was made with Fettuccini noodles and was not appetizing in the least. Chicken Fried rice seemed to have been made with a bottle of soy sauce or something, It was...was just not good. It all went into the trash as soon as I got home. You win some and you lose some. Too bad, was craving Chinese today, but didn't happen here. Hopefully there are better places elsewhere cause this was pretty bad. read more
