If you say yes, you'll get a small cup of the red sauce like when you order Sweet & Sour Pork or Chicken. They don't give you those small packets like other restaurants. My usual go to entrees are always Beef and Broccoli or General Tso's Chicken. Both of them are very good. I do the B&B when I'm trying to eat healthy Chinese. The beef is tender and the broccoli is soft, but still has a little snap to it. When enjoying the Beef and Broccoli, I have white rice. The General Tso's Chicken has a lite crispy coating and the sauce blends perfectly with fried rice, instead of white rice. Service is over the top friendly. Kelly the owner has personality plus, is super witty and always makes sure you are a satisfied customer.

Upon entering, I was quite surprised to see that their pricing was still reasonable, however I didn't understand the upcharge for Sunday vs. the weekly buffet price as nothing on that Sunday buffet reflected an upcharge type dish in the slightest. Upon my first trip up to the buffet, I was a bit surprised to see that literally not one item on that buffet had changed in the past 7 years. I guess any kind of variety is out with this place or they don't know how to prepare anything else. At 11 am with a very light crowd present, all of the food was cold, completely unacceptatble having only opened at 10:30 am! Honestly I think the General Tso was the only item I had that was luke warm besides my bowl of soup. Many of the buffet dishes appeared to be leftover from the previous evening - - a good cook can tell what's fresh vs. leftover. The crab ragoons were tough and chewy a telltale sign of having been reheated. The egg rolls appeared to be refried as they were exceptionally dark brown in color. Literally no one was touching them either. The "fresh" seasoned green beans were all shriveled up. The lo mein noodles were swollen, having clearly soaked up all the juices/sauce from being stored and re-served. I think you get the picture here. I guess one might get food that is fresh and warm after all the leftovers have been eaten up by the victims dining at opening time. Good luck with your experience. Also, this place is exceptionally dirty and ran down with black mold on the walls and ceiling. It desperately needs a coat of paint, some new ceiling tiles, flooring, and lighting upgrades. . . fairly inexpensive upgrades and things you think would have changed somewhere along the way in the past 7 years since my last visit.

Things can change, they can change overnight with a change of cook/staff or ownership. Someone local with more insight will eventually be able to fill me in. It is a nice enough place, overall. A bit run down, and a little bit cliche in terms of the decorating. With some light maintenance and a bit of editing on the decor, it could be a charming little spot, in a small Midwestern town. I am trying to be kind, becuase I have been fortunate enough to have travelled the world, and have gone to many different levels of restuarants. I like "simple" americanized Chinese food sometimes, it is something I actually look for when I got o different towns. The good; hot & sour soup was very nice, just tangy enough from the vinegar and just spicy enough from pepper (didn't detect any hot sauce flavors) to be good. There were mushrooms, bamboo, and a bit of tofu. I missed the drizzled egg that I have had in others versions. The could have been better; the Hunan pork was very one note, salt, was tender and good portion in the dish, but that just salt flavoring made it a bit hard to enjoy. The sauce was okay, and the vegetables were well prepared and balanced. The egg roll was an egg roll, if not mass produced, it just wasn't made with real attention, it was a bit hollow. The bad: fried rice, the texture was just plain wrong from anything I have had over many years and came to believe was correctly made. There were no "chunks" of anything, just vaguely browned rice (soy sauce perhaps). I will come back, I will try other things. I will order from the high end of the menu and see if perhaps they simply , for complex reasons I'm sure, decided to mail it in on the weekday lunch combos (places do that). I want Bamboo Garden to be better. I want it to be a reliable place for me to get good "strip mall Chinese."
