Absolutely a complete waste of money the food taste like it was cooked days ago they over charged ( only by a few dollars but still that's theft) their worker had some kind of allergy or infection and is making gross sounds with their nose. Dined here with a small group from church around 11 am. I personally had not been to the Chinese Buffet since Covid began, nearly 7 years ago now, believe it or not. However, I remember it as being a decent place to dine with a good amount of selection and fair prices. Upon entering, I was quite surprised to see that their pricing was still reasonable, however I didn't understand the upcharge for Sunday vs. the weekly buffet price as nothing on that Sunday buffet reflected an upcharge type dish in the slightest. Upon my first trip up to the buffet, I was a bit surprised to see that literally not one item on that buffet had changed in the past 7 years. I guess any kind of variety is out with this place or they don't know how to prepare anything else. At 11 am with a very light crowd present, all of the food was cold, completely unacceptatble having only opened at 10:30 am! Honestly I think the General Tso was the only item I had that was luke warm besides my bowl of soup. Many of the buffet dishes appeared to be leftover from the previous evening - - a good cook can tell what's fresh vs. leftover. The crab ragoons were tough and chewy a telltale sign of having been reheated. The egg rolls appeared to be refried as they were exceptionally dark brown in color. Literally no one was touching them either. The "fresh" seasoned green beans were all shriveled up. The lo mein noodles were swollen, having clearly soaked up all the juices/sauce from being stored and re-served. I think you get the picture here. I guess one might get food that is fresh and warm after all the leftovers have been eaten up by the victims dining at opening time. Good luck with your experience. Also, this place is exceptionally dirty and ran down with black mold on the walls and ceiling. It desperately needs a coat of paint, some new ceiling tiles, flooring, and lighting upgrades. . . fairly inexpensive upgrades and things you think would have changed somewhere along the way in the past 7 years since my last visit. read more

This was the first time we tried it and we will definitely be back! It is located in the same lot as Farm and Home. The decor is sparse, it's an older building, but very clean. The variety of foods is impressive. Everything we tried was very good. Servers kept the plates cleared in good time. They have a senior discount which is always appreciated. Went there for lunch on a weekday with my family and was very happy with the freshness of all items on the buffet. Have been there before and was not disappointed with their offerings. The cleanup ladies were "johnny on the spot" whenever people finished their meals and left their tables. They kept the place very clean and spotless. Let me start out by saying, typically I am not a buffet person, but I was shopping next door and thought I'd give them a try. Once again, this is a review where I need and want a half star. For a buffet, it really wasn't that bad. The buffet area was kept clean and filled on a regular schedule as I dined. My food was all at a warm temperature and I didn't have to push anything aside for being cold. Their soda fountain was Pepsi, which I am not a fan of, but when given it as a choice, I can do the diet version. Foods that I tried and liked were; General Tso's Chicken, Bourbon Chicken, Green Pepper Steak, Chicken with Broccoli, Beef Lo Mein and the Green Beans. It's kinda funny, my favorite was the Green Beans and not any of the Chinese dishes. Foods that I did not like; Egg Roll, Crab Rangoon, Fried Rice and Fried Chicken Wings. It's disappointing when the Egg Roll and Crab Rangoon are not good when enjoying a Chinese meal. For me, if they are good, I can make them a light meal. Dining here you have very little interaction with the staff. You'll speak with the cashier when you first walk in and pay, and that's about it. Once you are dining, the staff working the dining room rarely speak as they bus and clean tables. The ambiance is non-existence, it's outdate and scary, but they keep it clean. I eat here almost once a week with my pal Steven. We both enjoy this establishment for the cheap and easy sit down experience. Steven loves the decor in this restaurant though I don't give much thought about it. Some might say the food here isn't very fresh or that the place is a bit trashy but Steven and I think it has amazing charm. I would recommend you give it a shot. They have a huge selection. Some of my favorite items are the pot stickers, general Tso's chicken, and potatoes. Steven adores the lo mein and the green beans. The most recent trip I tried out their chicken wings and they were alright! Every once in a while Steven and I indulge in their sweets. I also have to point out that their sweet tea is fabulous and I usually drink two full glasses at least. I don't have much to say about the service since you serve yourself but everyone I've interacted with is always very nice. Good people. Growing up, this was THEE place to go for Chinese food. I would stay away from pretty much all other Chinese places in the area for fear of gastro-intestinal bugs. Now, this is not really authentic Chinese food, if that is what you're looking for, but it is good. The selection is very large and offers some items that other Chinese food lovers don't even believe exist (like peanut butter chicken) when I mention them. If you are not accustomed to eating very greasy food, then you might not want to go wild on your first attempt - many people are overwhelmed by the spread and load up on the first trip only to regret it later. Our family of four presented our Red Bird Discount card which entitled us to 10% off of our total order. We were told the 10% off only applied to one person, not all four. (Even though we received 10% off our entire order the last two times we dined there) We had to stand there and argue back and forth as the two employees conversed in their native tongue (RUDE!) thus holding up a line of patrons behind us. After roughly 10 minutes, we were finally refunded our full 10% off discount. The entire time we ate, we noticed the two staff members watching us, their eyes continued to follow us as we went back and forth to grab our food from the Buffett. The food was mediocre, and service was less than desirable- before, during & even even after we ate, as their eyes followed us to our car in the parking lot. Extremely rude and creepy. We arrived late, about 7:30, so there was no wait. The buffet is open till 9, and some fresh food was being brought out. Unfortunately, that couldn't be said for all of it. 2 staples if the buffet, the crab Rangoon, and the "sweet rolls", aka canned biscuits rolled in cinnamon sugar, were not as good as usual. The rangoon had no crab that I could discern, and tasted more of cream cheese, and the dough was slightly overcooked. The same could be said for the biscuits. Our first trip to Chinese Buffet was very pleasant. With a large family, it's important that we have quick, efficient service, kid-pleasing food, and at a cost we can afford. Chinese Buffet hit on all those counts- and then some! Our kids were absolutely delighted to try all the different items they love so much- orange chicken, Gen. Tso's chicken, fried donuts, jello, rice, etc. It was hot, tasted great, and put a smile on everyone's face! I particularly enjoyed the black pepper steak with onion/pepper. There is something to like here for everyone, and the last thing I'm going to mention is the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. With the new changes brought about by the pandemic, they are now serving "cafeteria style," where a worker will dish your food for you. This place is a staple of my childhood and adolescence. I want to say it opened in 98 or 99 but has been nothing short of consistent all of these years. Their offerings have a homemade quality as if they use their own recipes unlike most place that use the same low quality food vendors. Steve is always very courteous as are his waitstaff and keeps this place spotless. The food is always tasty and hot but like 99% of Chinese food buffets, you will feel comfort at first and comatose once your dinner settles. Well, I guess I'll give this one five stars, since I've frequented this place so much. It is easily one of the best places to eat in Alton, and up there as one of the best Asian buffets on the 'East side'. I've been here so much over the years that I even remember eating here on the day the world stopped turning (9/11). What really amazes me is how much this place hasn't changed in time, in a good way. They somehow seem to keep things going and maintain their status as the 'go-to' place for the best all-you-can-eat restaurant. This was the first place I've tried many things for the first time, including their 'peanut butter chicken'! Their fried stuff like crab Rangoon, fries, and many others have always been top quality. The only negative thing is the guy who is always taking my money (assuming he's the owner or one of them?), who is never really that friendly. But the food wins there every time.
