Su Su Dim Sum - Steamed Pork Bao

Phenomenal food!…read more We're in Syracuse for a conference, and didn't want to spend a fortune for mediocre food at the conference hotel, so we set out to find a good local spot via Yelp. Su Su Dim Sum came up at the top of the list, so off we went. I ordered a small (pint) of hot and sour soup and lamb with scallions. My wife ordered tangerine beef, and then we ordered red bean paste steamed buns to go for breakfast tomorrow. The soup was thick, full of chunks of tofu, plenty of vegetables, a little less peppery and a little less pungent than we like, but still better than typical Chinese restaurant fare. A bowlful of fried noodles came on the side. A great start! My wife, a veterinarian, suspected that the lamb was actually beef, but that question aside, the lamb dish was delicious, with plenty of meat, chunks of bell pepper, and abundant scallions, in a delicious sauce. The star of the night was the tangerine beef, lightly breaded and perfectly fried, in a savory and slightly sour sauce. A few broccoli florets, a handful of tangerine segments, and a wonderful thick sauce completed the dish perfectly. We packed up the leftovers, collected the steamed buns, and headed back to the hotel. We grabbed some menus to give to fellow conference attendees when they ask where we went out to dinner.

Not usually in the area but when I am, I make it a point to stop here. Just really great food…read moreoverall. The hot and sour soup hits all the hot and sour tasting notes. I only wish it had different mushrooms. I loved the pork bao buns. They came with a tasty dipping sauce.

Honestly there's not many choices around the area besides Mcdonald's and Taco Bell.. so my family…read moreand I came here for a last resort dinner. But it wasn't too bad! Buffet was $8.50/pp, which is reasonable. We would've paid around the same at Taco Bell haha. The establishment is owned by a Chinese family (maybe the only Chinese people in the area??). An okay number of choices at the hot bar. The food wasn't packed to the brim of every tray but they did keep on refilling them little by little. There were maybe 4-5 people in the restaurant at 8pm on a Saturday night. Coconut shrimp, pepper chicken, sesame chicken, lo mein, stuffed shrimp, stuffed clams, chicken wings were all pretty decent. I stayed away from the desserts (especially ice cream) since they did not look appetizing (and that's saying something coming from me!) Tea is $0.75/pp and they give you fortune cookies at the end with your check.

Alright, so this is what happens when you are starving and it is getting kinda late and you would…read moreprobably eat a buffalo, you're so hungry. It's a rather small place in the middle of a strip mall with a Top's Grocery and McDonalds to the left. I definitely wouldn't recommend for a large crowd after church. The floors were dirty and that should have been my first clue as to how the entire experience would be, but like I said...hungry enough to eat a buffalo. There was old food, trash and dirt underneath our table and our table had been wiped down with a dirty rag. The food was decent but it was not fresh and had been sitting under the heat-lamps for a few hours. They had your typical Chinese dishes like sesame chicken, teriyaki chicken and coconut shrimp and egg rolls that had been bought from a store and defrosted for our tasty pleasure. The owners were as nice as you could expect and for 19.96$, we didn't entirely regret it, but we won't be back. It was quite dirty and they were too lazy to bring fresh food out for the lunch dinner rush.
