I don't get to consume Chinese food as much these days since my partner has developed a soy and mushroom allergy. Today, I was free of restrictions and I was also craving Chinese food. Stopped by China King for a quick lunch. No one was there dining in so I had the entire dining room to myself. I ordered the Hunan beef lunch special and ask for extra spicy. Lunch specials are served with pork fried rice. My order was quickly prepared and given to me and the table I sat at was clean. Pork fried rice was nothing to write home about as it was pretty bland and lacked in vegetables. I found two peas and one piece of carrot in my rice. The Hunan beef was very flavorful and had tons of umami most likely attributed to the addition of black bean. I could visually see the chili flakes in the stir fry however it looked hotter than it was and I could have gone for a few more notches of heat. The price was good, portions were large, service is quick and overall I can say I am satisfied. My only complaint, and to no fault of their own, was that the dining room smells of strong tobacco smoke but not because smoking is allowed indoors in this establishment, rather due to the cigar lounge next door seeping through the walls. read more

Very little flavor. I wish I could say that bland was our only complaint. I haven't had Chinese in like forever, so when the craving hit I was clueless on where to go. China King had decent reviews and was on my way home so we decided to give them a chance and they definitely hit the spot. One thing you should know is that they take COVID very seriously, like above and beyond what they need to be doing. They have plexiglass installed from counter to ceiling and you talk to them thru a speaker. Hand sanitizer is at the counter on the customer side as well as their's and I saw him use it after every phone call or register transaction. They have a sliding door that they put your order thru, encased in another plexiglass box to ensure there is no contact whatsoever. I was impressed. To order you can go inside or call ahead. They must do a hell of a business because while I was waiting their phone rang non stop. There is currently no dining in. The dining area was lackluster and very generic so I wouldn't want to eat in anyways. It felt kind of dumpy and you could tell the plexiglass was a poorly executed diy project, but hey, it did the job! Now for the food. The specials which consist of an entree, fried rice, egg roll, and fortune cookie were in the $8.50 range. The platter was enough for me to have lunch the next day. The chicken was moist and the rice seasoned well. The egg roll was very plump, not my favorite, but it was made fresh and the largest I've ever seen. We visit Lancaster, PA a few times a year. My eye doctor is located in town and he's worth the 2 1/2 hour trip as he's probably the finest retina specialist in the state. Yesterday, our preferred local Chinese restaurant was closed on a Monday so I Yelped (thanks guys) and found this nearly 5 star restaurant. With high hopes, we entered. Instantly, we were assaulted by the acrid stench of cigar smoke. I looked around, but didn't see anyone smoking. My wife said she thought the next store was a cigar shop and, BINGO, it is. Since we were starving and had a nearly 3 hour drive home, we decided to stick it out. I had Chicken with broccoli and egg drop soup. My wife had stir fried vegetables. The food was hot, fresh and well cooked. Taste too was spot on. We both enjoyed our meals. However, the tables were a little tacky and could have used a good wipe with a clean towel. I can say that they have a clean restroom so factor that in. Overall, I would give 4 stars for the food but have to pull a star for the awful cigar smell (not their fault) and the need to tidy up a bit. I recommend that if you are local (we're from NJ) this is a good take out place. Good food and fair (meaning price equal to quality and quantity) prices. I would not eat in the restaurant again as my wife, sensitive to tobacco smoke, is sniffling all day today. Cigar smoke is just too strong. I tried China King for the first time and while there was nothing wrong with the food, it also wasn't great. I ordered Crab Rangoons and Orange Chicken combo plate. The crab rangoons were good, but tasted too sweet to me. The egg roll was very tough and didn't have a lot of flavor. The orange chicken was gooey, and again, lacked flavor. read more

I'm so torn with this place. First off, the food is GREAT. I've never had a problem with that. In fact, I would love to give this place another star for the awesome quality and taste of the product. BUT... every single time I order from here, the customer service is TRASH. The entire conversation seems standoffish and unwelcoming - and in my opinion, someone who has chosen YOUR establishment to spend money should be treated with more respect. I usually try to let things like this go to give the venue the benefit of the doubt, but ALL THREE TIMES were a similar situation. The food may be great but my experience ordering online and with the man at the window was horrific. My order was confirmed via text and I was at the window just about 20 minutes later. The man at the wndow seemed frustrated - with me - that he could find my order. After checking all the orders on his table and looking at my text confirmation he went to the back of the restaurant and eventually held up his hand indicating five minutes. More than ten minutes later he was appropriately serving other cutomers and when I got his attention and he pointed - I assume to wait. At that point I had had enough and said to forget about it and he yelled, "I told you I didn't have your order" as if that was an explanation. And they obviously had my order. Stopped in tonight for a small house fried rice and one eggroll to go. There were people waiting no problem. Nearly a half hour goes by and I'm watching orders being confused and people waiting a really long time. One guy walked in , placed an order for a special kind of egg roll and got his order right away. He did not call ahead and that seemed really unfair to everyone else waiting in line. Finally after half an hour of waiting, the cook looks at me and asked me what I ordered and hadn't even begun to make it. I said don't bother and walked out. The food is very good but one time our Sesame Chicken order included uncooked chicken and rude staff.

Most definitely my favorite Chinese restaurant in Lancaster, China King is great for eating in or taking out. My personal favorites are the chicken fried rice and the wonton soup, after I ate here it felt like no other restaurant could get either of those quite right. We ordered combo plates. I got General Tso's Chicken and my husband got Sweet and Sour Pork. Both came with Pork Fried Rice and Egg Rolls. The food was good, but not great. I tend to like my GTC spicy and this didn't have much heat. I'm sure it's because most people in Lancaster like their food a little on the bland side. Rice was decent, but also a tad under seasoned. Horrible customer service. I called in an order to have my dinner delivered. They told me it would take 20-30 minutes. 50 minutes went by and I called to see where my order was. They told me the driver was on is way and they were sorry for the delay. 15 minutes after that I get a call from them saying I was out of their delivery range and I needed to come pick up my order. After explaining how frustrated I was that they didn't tell me that when I ordered, didn't tell me that when I called to find out where they were and then wouldn't deliver it even though they made a mistake, they said I couldn't talk to a manager and simply offered to refund my money. I waited over an hour and then had to get dinner somewhere else for my family. I am an understandable person and would have understood the delay if they would have admitted their mistake and then delivered my food. Completely disgusted with how they handled it and it looks like other people that wrote reviews found them to be rude as well... They've lost my business for sure.
