Went there with friends for dinner. We ordered 4 dishes, eggplant with garlic sauce, steam sole(fish), spicy chitterlings (pork large intestines) and general Tao's chicken. It was delicious! The portion was good. The store deco is really simple and not necessarily a place for a romantic date, but it was comfortable and pleasant. The price is also very affordable. I recommend this place. Too bad we were busy enjoying the food and forgot to take pictures of the food or the store. I can't wait to go there again! read more

At about 11 a.m. today, while in Columbia for a medical appointment, my father and I went to the China Kitchen. My father notes it is his favorite restaurant in Columbia, and he stops there whenever he is in town. We ordered a single lunch-special order of hot and spicy beef, which comes with a side of hot & sour soup. We ordered an egg roll each and an extra side of the soup, and split the lunch plate between us. (Though as it turned out, there was enough soup in each order that we could probably have gotten by with just splitting that too.) We also had hot tea. The hot and spicy beef was very good, vegetables nicely crunchy and beef chewy and flavorful. And there was an absolutely huge amount of it for the $4.25 that it cost. If I had been by myself, I certainly couldn't have finished it, and definitely not both it and the soup with it! The hot and sour soup was hot in both the physical and chemical senses and suitably sour, with big chunks of tofu, egg, beef, and other good things. It came with fried noodles to put in it, too. The egg rolls were marvelous--big fat things full of crunchy cabbage. Freshly made, not the frozen-and-rewarmed kind. The only sour notes were the hot tea--tea bags and hot water from a dispenser rather than the big hot tea urn my Dad said they used to have on his prior visits (though, to note, it WAS free, so I can't really complain too much)--and the fact that our table was incredibly wobbly, to the point where if I inadvertently braced my weight on it to shift position, it ended up spilling both our tea. (You can see the evidence of that in the second photo.) All in all, it was a very economical, very delicious meal. If I were in Columbia, I'd certainly eat there again. read more

We ordered thru Grub Hub for work. They didn't give us any utensils and left our food setting in a door way that people were walking in and out of with no phone call to let us know it was there. Very little shrimp in the Broccoli and Shrimp. Six pieces I think of tiny shrimp. There was no soy sauce given or no sweet and sour for the crab rangoon we ordered. Usually I get good service from them. The delivery fee and tip alone was as much as two meals. I am in Columbia Missouri not California read more

Tasted like sub-par Chinese food to me. I ordered the Hunan Beef Combo, which came with a veggie eggroll and chicken fried rice. At $8, it was really cheap for the amount of food. Despite the considerable quantity, the food wasn't impressive. The sauce on my beef was gloppy and seemed to have more corn starch than necessary. The food wasn't bad, but it also wasn't good. I probably won't be returning since Hyvee is across the parking lot and their Chinese food is priced the same with higher quality ingredients and more flavor. read more

I don't mind a really basic seating area and atmosphere for a place with frequent takeout, but I do want good food at great value. Today I got just a part of that. I like some celery and mushrooms with my cashew chicken, but I really wanted more chicken than was in this dish! There was far too much celery especially. I used to love the "to go" food from here. Recently they have obviously changed management and workers. It used to be a husband and wife duo that ran things and the food was fantastic for takeaway. Today, after several months of not going here, myself and two friends went here to get some carryout. I noticed right away that the people who used to be there no matter the time were gone and the counter you order from was different. OK, so we're here, let's order, it should be the same, right? First, they used to have Springfield Cashew Chicken which if you live in this area, is a favorite. I ordered it and the guy had no clue what I was talking about. Then after I described it he pointed to a sign that read "Fried Cashew Chicken". I asked him if it came with brown gravy and he said yes so I ordered it. At any other Chinese restaurant they give you the gravy in a different container just like if you order sweet and sour so the chicken doesn't get soggy. Not so in this case. I found the chicken to be chewy and full of gristle. I had to pull pieces of chicken out of my mouth and put it into a napkin. Also, in all my experiences with Chinese to go, the half pint of white rice that comes with the entree is usually packed to the top so tight that you have to take a fork and flake it out. Not this rice. There was about a 1/2 inch gap from the top and it was loose. Friend number one ordered Kung Po Chicken and was also pulling chicken out of his mouth because he "couldn't chew it". Friend number three ordered Mongolian Beef and had the same experience, he said it tasted O.K., but kept pulling meat out of his mouth that was too hard to chew. Their egg rolls were great, still some of the biggest in Columbia and filled with plenty of cabbage and meat. We also ordered Fried Wontons and they were puny, whereas most Chinese places make them huge. Oh, and again, maybe petty, but with the size of the tab we paid, no fortune cookies. Maybe they need more time to adjust but as of now, beware. read more

Food is pretty good and they give you a lot. I got the sesame chicken and it wasn't over cooked. It was actually cooked really well. Juicy and tender. The breading wasn't hard or tough. The egg role with the dinner is massive. read more

Sweet & sour chicken was great. Moo shu pork was just ok, but it was my first time trying that dish. Definitely more cabbage than pork. Very little pork. I am Chinese. Another Chinese friend brought me here. He is visiting for 1 month. This is his favorite place. I have had their standard lunch set before and was not impressed. I see other reviews are from long time ago. I think they have improved! However, this time my friend ordered without menu. We had steam whole fish -- which no other chinese restaurants offer in CoMO that I know of. It was good. Of course it cannot be compared with what you get in Hong Kong, but hey, it was good for 2 of us Chinese. Cold chopped chicken -- that doesn't sound great, but it is great. It's whole chicken steamed, then chopped to pieces, served with bones in. The sauce make it good. Since it is cold, it feels not greasy at all. Stirred fried beef cubes -- again, my friend ordered with no menu, and ordered in Chinese, but it was good, beef was tender, green peppers and onions were crisp. Great flavor. Ma Po tofu. If you like tofu, don't mind a little spicy -- it wasn't burning spicy, this was great. Sometimes I just craved well cooked Chinese style tofu. This one hit the spot. For vegetable we had stir fried baby Bak Choi. Egg drop soup was great. Atmosphere is not fancy. Very plain restaurant. But I will come back. My daughter loves Chinese food too, I will bring her back! read more

Very quick, yummy Chinese cuisine. Pickup orders usually take 5-15 minutes, so it's perfect when you're in a rush and need something fast! Lunch specials are great value for the price. Personal favs are strawberry chicken and orange chicken. Crab Rangoon is yummy as well. read more

Truly horrible and I never write reviews. I decided to try this place out yesterday (spent $11) and I regretted in the minute I opened up the container. For some reason my order was either wrong or they do Kung Pao shrimp with month old cashews and no spice. The crab rangoons were really hard to eat as well. Normally I am pretty easy on chinese food & can eat it even if it is average. This was just not good and I barely ate anything...yet I still woke up at 3 in the morning with an upset stomach...probably from the grease. I highly suggest skipping this the next time you are craving chinese take out. read more

If you're a fan of hot and sour soup, this is the place. It had the best in town, although I've noticed some of the other items (the General Tso's Chicken, f.ex.) can be hit or miss. One thing I've noticed is that for all the years I've been going there--about 15, I think--it'll have a run of being great for a few years, then not so hot. It's almost as if you can tell when they get a new head cook or manager, and their views on produce rotation differ. It's been a 5/5 before, it's been a 2/5; however, right now it's probably a 3.5/5. If you live on the south side of town, this is about the best quick Chinese, while Peking and Q's are more or less date/family places. None of these restaurants offer a buffet, however, should you be in the mood for that. read more

There was no chicken in the chicken lo mein. No meat at all in the chicken and pork egg rolls and hardly any shrimp in the triple delight...in which we asked for extra shrimp. They weren't willing to talk to us about it. Horrible food. Horrible customer service. Never eating there again. read more
