I came here during a Friday night and it was a bit busy. Most of the food was on the fresher side. The coconut shrimp and salt and pepper shrimp were the only good items from the buffet. There unfortunately was not any hibachi or sushi available with this buffet. Staff removed plates from the table quickly, however they seemed to rush us by giving the check while we were still eating. I wish they had a bit more food options to choose from. China Lobster survived a lot! The survived a move from a beautiful location with a cool tree inside to an abandoned Ponderosa. I don't know if ANY asian buffet would be 5 stars, only because I have yet to find one where everything is the correct temperature and tastes amazing, but this one was pretty good. It's not as big as some of the super buffets out there, but that means the quality is a bit higher. I was flying later in the day, so I stayed away from anything sketchy, but I'll say the hot and sour soup was so good! I add wontons to mine (you're welcome). This used to be a great restaurant, so I'm not sure if ownership changed hands or what, but now it was not good. Food from the buffet was not hot. It was overcooked and mushy. Food selection was not enjoyable. I've a shellfish allergy, so the selections for me were underwhelming, over sauced, and over seasoned. The steamed dumplings sauce tastes like cloves mixed with mouthwash. And is rice supposed to be crunchy. The wonton soup tasted like dish soap with a hint of chicken. It is with great sorrow that we are ending our 30 year patronage of China Lobster. It's not about the food or service-- both have been up and down over the years, but always more than fine. This is about manager/owner David who hired our daughter, a culinary student, ServSafe credentialed, but without restaurant experience yet. She started on Monday as a server, received no training, but was complimented for her work, being good with customers and orders. She was let go on Tuesday because David 1) said they were short staffed and wanted someone who moved faster but 2) did not want to push her to go faster because 3) if she stayed on they would have to put her on their tax forms. There really was no valid, legitimate reason for her being let go, and David could supply nothing besides those three points. Most all people in any job need more than a day or two to get the hang of things It seems China Lobster may be paying servers under the table for a couple days then letting them go before the 48 hours required for the I-9 and taxes. It seems they are running a bit of a scam. David decimated our daughter and her quest to get restaurant experience at one of our favorite places. He had no apologies, and I'm sure does not care we will no longer have our monthly dinner there. Thinking of working at China Lobster? Please don't. Thinking of eating there? I remember this place from years back and even then the food was not that great. I go back on occasion to see if there has been any improvement. I went today for a take-out lunch and it was very disappointing. General Tso with fried rice. The chicken was dry and tasted microwaved. The sauce is no better than it was 5+ years ago. No flavor at all. I was hoping for some spice but there was nothing. I went about a month with some family and only had some soup and an egg roll. It was OK, nothing to write home about. Being the only sit down Chinese restaurant in the area I guess they can get away with lousy, tasteless food. I will keep going to Fox Chapel if I want good Chinese. read more

Update 1 month later: still never received any follow up, apologies or offer for refund due to their mistake of missing half our order. Very rude on the phone when asking about the missing sushi/entrees. Disappointed as they hung up the phone and didn't try to resolve the issue. Still appreciate the grubhub delivery guy for confirming with the restaurant that he only received the one bag and helped grubhub provide a refund when it should have been China Lobster. China Lobster is our go lunch spot with people from work. The buffet has lots of options and dish combinations to make. I love to try lots of different foods. Ordering off the menu is another option. We did the lunch menu, which ranges from $6-$10 and includes an egg roll or soup. I have yet to try the sushi, but friends if mine say it is good as well. read more

Came in here to support the local restaurants. It was around 6:30pm and not many people. There were only 5 tables of customers. Based on reviews, I skipped the buffet. Food was pretty on par with other Chinese establishments. The place was clean, service was excellent and the food was tasty! I'd come here again. read more

I usually never take the time to leave reviews for places but honestly this place has terrible food. In fact some of the worst i've ever had. Definitely on my list of one of the worst buffets i've ever ate at. There were only two tables of options with one in the back for dessert the options weren't great but that wasn't the worst part. Mostly everything i looked at & tasted were very stale! I also brought my kid there & even his fries & chicken were stale as if it was sitting out for a long amount of time & mind u i came when the buffet started! If I could rate the food a 0 i absolutely would! The food was beyond terrible & even made me feel a little sick. Also in my opinion, this buffet is over priced when it comes to the buffet at least. A hidden gem in the heart of Lower Burrell, PA. This place offers a very hearty all you can eat buffet at a great price. The staff is very friendly and I have never been disappointed with the food ever. I have been going here quite often for the past 5+ years without a complaint. The bathrooms are kept very clean, the food is hot, the sushi is fresh, and the drinks keep flowing. I highly recommend stopping in here at least once because from the outside it may seem like a typical Chinese buffet restaurant, but on the inside it is so much more! Highly recommend. read more

Great choices, friendly service, clean, just a solid Chinese restaurant experience whether you're buying the buffet or ordering. Delivery is always quick enough and hot which is another great perk. It's the best Chinese buffet in Lower Burrell easily. Edit: I always see people complaining about the price, but stop for one second and realize that there aren't many places that offer unlimited shrimp, and large shrimp at that, all combined in the price on a daily basis. They just added fried fantail shrimp and it is incredible. Add in the salt and pepper shrimp which is again, incredible, the chili shrimp etc.... We really enjoy this place. The buffet is very large and good but the sushi is excellent. Sit at the sushi bar in the back and the sushi chef prepares everything right there. It is always fresh and wonderful and the chef always slips in a few surpises. The spicy tuna roll and the Steeler roll are our favorites. Also, check out the bar. So my friend, & I where there yesterday, & they charged my debit card, & my friends debit card twice, & tried to act like that's normal. We have eaten there multiple times only on the weekends, & I called the manager, & he tried to say that's what happens on the weekends which is clearly false when this hasn't happened the other times we were there. I wish I knew his name because I've never talked to someone that was so ignorant to their customer. It clearly was their fault for charging us both twice, & he wanted to say that's normal when it's clearly not. I have 2 charges pending for the same price. That doesn't work like that. The staff are always polite and friendly. This is our go-to place for sushi that's near us. It's always fresh, and they have a nice selection of different rolls and dishes.
