Very typical stuff at a Chinese buffet like general tso, sesame chicken, crab Rangoon, lo mein, etc.. Some of the food were definitely left out longer than it should've been as it was a bit cold/slightly warm side. The sushi wasn't that good. When I did get something that was on the warm side it was somewhat ok. Staff seemed irritated being there. For the cost you can get a lot of food to fill you up, but it wasn't that good. TJ Buffet Sushi And Grill is located in the Galleria at Pittsburgh Mills near the Macy's. Has both an interior and exterior entrance as the buffet has later hours then the Galleria. TJ has more than enough seating and is larger than it looks. I was not originally intending to dine here, but after walking by, it smelled really good. I dined here for dinner, and despite it being after 7PM, all items were kept well stocked. Has the standard buffet items you would expect including fried rice, lo mein, chicken and broccoli, dumplings, egg rolls, etc. The sushi options were limited to a handful of rolls, but everything was fresh. Weirdly enough, they had really good French Fries for a buffet. Desert options included various items including fresh fruit, Jello, and several flavors of hard ice cream. Only minor issue was the fountain soda could have been better, but they do offer bottled soda as an option. Service was fast and attentive. Price was fine for a dinner buffet. I've come to temper my expectations about buffets, having some great ones and a few sad ones over the years. This one stands out as better than middle of the road. I took my son here for his birthday and we both enjoyed the experience. The ambiance is good, kind of dark but not in a bad way. The food is well lit and easy to see. I noticed a few things right from the beginning. There was a wide variety of seafood and every one was good. My son and I both like sea sticks, and found these added to several of the dishes. The scallops stood out, as did the shrimp dishes. I wasn't crazy about the egg rolls, but the tempura on the sushi bar was good. It seemed to me that the chicken dishes were somewhat lacking, while the beef and seafood were very good. I tried the lo mein and found it to be somewhat overcooked and kind of lackluster. We both liked the dumplings. By the time we were ready for dessert, we were both full. Still, we tried a few things and I'm glad we did. The chocolate coffee cake and the orange cake were highlights. My son said that the pudding and banana dessert were both good. I opted for a slice of watermelon. I have to admit that it is pretty hard to screw up a slice of watermelon. Our dishes were cleared away quickly and we weren't pressured into anything we really didn't want. There isn't much service involved with a buffet, but I enjoyed the experience enough to leave a decent tip. For $20 something, it was a good value. You can be sure I'll be back to try it again. Today was not the best at TJ Sushi. The service is always pretty good. The prices have definitely went up since Covid and haven't fell down. Tonight (7pm) the Green Sauce called Wasabi was a sauce. Definitely not a fan there. The fried fish was hard, I'm not going to go further than to say that nearly everything was just old. The sushi - we picked our favs, they had a decent selection- but again, old... Worst of all was the men's restroom - not going to even mention any more than just that. Best of all was the women's restroom. Freshly cleaned. All in all- compared to all buffets with Sushi on it - still TJ Sushi tops the list. Overall, the food was good for what it is, but we were very disappointed in the service and up-keep of the items on the buffet. They were busy, but, I found the service to be extremely rude. The only time our server even smiled at us was when we were given our check...hmmm...I wonder why? I'll outline our experience below. We went on a special night in which they had crab legs and other specials, so the price was much higher than normal. I was not pleased at all for what was offered for this and for the higher cost. The crab legs were kept in a one very shallow small pan, and it was near-empty the entire time. I got--none--as did my kids. My wife was able to get one cluster, one time. Yet, we were all charged the high price for the specials. Another issue we had was when my daughter was up getting her food, she accidentally got in the way of one of the servers. The server rudely scoffed at her, and told her to "uhghhh....GO!". Not a good thing to do to my child when we were visiting their establishment. Overall, as I said, the regular food I had was good. But, the rest of the experience left me very wary of returning. I didn't like being charged a much higher price than normal, and not even being able to "get" what we paid for. TJ Buffet has some really good things, and also some pretty "meh" things. You can have a good meal at a good price if you're selective. If it's your first time there, get only small amounts of the different foods then go back for more of what you like. I'd avoid weekday lunch though it's cheap, there just aren't that many foods out then. Friday and Saturday dinner and Saturday lunch are good times; most buffets are best when they're crowded, not empty. The sushi unfortunately is in the meh category. I really like sushi, but I usually skip the sushi here or just get a couple pieces of what looks freshest. They tend to make the rice balls too large with the skimpiest pieces of meh fish, consequently many patrons avoid it and it sits and gets dry. But they'll cook lo mein freshly for you on the grill, which many Americans incorrectly call "hibachi." Hibachi is actually an open-flame cooking method, like BBQ, this is actually called "teppanyaki." Their cold bar has nice fixings for a salad, plus good cold shrimp on ice. The hot buffet has a mix of American and Chinese foods, they're mostly pretty good. There are usually several nice stir fried dishes with beef, pork, chicken or shrimp and vegetables. These are often better than most other Asian places in Pittsburgh with good flavor and fresh crispy vegetables. They usually have one or two types of steamed fish, pot stickers, and sometimes crab and/or crawfish. Also fried chicken wings and Chinese ribs. I'm sad to see many people order sugary soda to have with their meal. You can get a pot of Chinese tea there for just $1 and it's quite good tea, a much better choice in my opinion. read more

Sunday's are seafood days and cost more. ~$10 more for two people and we didn't get any seafood that was special. Never in a million years did I think he would eat frog legs but between those, the chicken wings, and the Crawfish he leaves with a full stomach and a big smile! I generally do not air my grievances of any business, however today I am going to. My sister ordered coconut shrimp today. When she brought it home, it was chicken. She called Tj Asian Buffet and the gentlemen said "no problem and that it would be ready in ten minutes." We both went over and the woman asked for payment, even though they got the order wrong. She refused to give us the order without a second payment. My sister left and I called the restaurant and asked for a manager, who wasn't there. I spoke to the woman about it and she immediately began yelling, continued to interrupt me, and said we placed the order wrong. We have supported this establishment for many, many years on a regular basis, but after the lack of professionalism that was demonstrated, my family will NEVER order from them. Well...it is inexpensive and all you can eat. Three of us went to dinner here. They had steam tables with Chinese style food, crayfish and shrimp. There is a hibachi grill. I never saw anyone there to cook although I saw a kid patiently hoping that someone would show up. The shrimp chips were bendable instead of crisp. I asked staff about this and was assured that the chips had been put out today. I eventually ascertained that they had been sitting out since lunch. There were no scoops in the ice cream so people were using their own spoons. This caused there to be mixing of the flavors of ice cream.
