Roach

I love China No.1. All of their food tastes pretty fresh and authentic. I just picked up some from them today and half way through my meal, I noticed something crawling. I looked and found a roach crawling in my food and almost threw up. Will not he eating here again.

We had Hot & Sour Soup, that was the best my wife and I had ever had. It was delicious.

I really like this restaurant. The food is fresh and fast. I haven't had a complaint about this restaurant in the year I've been here.

They had our order done fast and on time. Service overall was good. Unable to comment on the ambiance but the drive thru option is nice and the restaurant didn't look bad from the outside. The food was majority just okay. The best dish is definitely the lo mein. The bao was okay. The twice cooked pork was okay. The beef stirfry was okay. The honey chicken was decently good. It was all relatively just an okay meal. Food ratings: Lo mein: 4.5/5, best dish there. Almost perfect with the seasoning and taste Bao buns: 3/5, pretty common tasting, nothing unique about it Beef stir fry: 3/5, pretty normal tasting, nothing unique about it Honey chicken: 4/5, was pretty good and unique Twice cooked pork: 2/5, tasted okay, not a lot of flavor overall between the meat or the veggies

Portions are large- you certainly won't leave hungry (and will probably have leftovers). The chicken with vegetables needed sweet and sour sauce, but the mandarin chicken was seasoned wonderfully. Good Chinese Food with a Unique Bonus…read more Mr. Chen's is a solid choice if you're craving Chinese food in Tuscaloosa. I wouldn't call it exceptional, but it's consistently good, and there's a legitimate case that it may be the best Chinese restaurant in town depending on what you're looking for. The attached Chinese grocery store is what really sets it apart. It's fun to browse before or after your meal and offers a unique experience that you won't find at most local restaurants. On the food side, the Orange Chicken, General Tso's Chicken, and Mongolian Beef were all flavorful and worth ordering again. The egg roll, fried rice, crab angels, hot and sour soup, and tapioca milk tea were all enjoyable as well. My only disappointment was the hot mustard. Instead of homemade hot mustard, they only offer the standard packaged packets. It's a small detail, but homemade mustard would have been a nice touch. Overall, Mr. Chen's serves quality Chinese food in a city with relatively limited options. Between the reliable menu and the attached Asian market, it's definitely worth a visit and one of the better places in Tuscaloosa for Chinese cuisine.

I preface this review with the fact I'm not a huge Asian food fan. Take this for what it's worth…read more It's fast food Asian, but unlike the other big name fast Chinese places, the food is proteins are cooked to order. It's basically a bowl place with choice of rice, protein and veggies. The food was nice and hot when we got it. Lots of bright colorful graphics for the interior. It was clean and nice. Young adults working when we were there. They were nice and efficient so the service was fine. They have a white meat chicken options which I liked. A bowl is very filling. Egg rolls are tasty too. Overall a good fast food alternative for Asian. I recommend it over the more popular big name places.

I ordered a side of fried rice, which is supposed to come with peas and carrots, but there were maybe 2 or 3 peas in the whole dish. The rice leaned on the gummy and sweet side, and it tasted very processed. The yum yum sauce was only .75¢ so I can't complain, but they did not fill it as much as I would've liked. The chicken egg roll was pretty good, but the sweet and sour sauce was very liquidy and I like it with a little more thickness. They only have pepsi products, so plan ahead. They were out of diet pepsi when I came. Not their fault, but it would've been nice to have it. I came during their specials hour so my drink was only .99¢, so I can't complain too much. Wasn't the best experience I've had, but not enough to dock more than two stars. I can at least say I've tried this place.

The shrimp and mixed vegetables were spot-on--fresh, flavorful, and cooked just right. As for the "spicy" part... well, let's just say if you've been eating hot food as long as I have, you're not breaking a sweat unless there's an actual fire in your mouth. Still, delicious all the same! Now, fair warning--this isn't fine dining. Your meal comes on a plastic disposable plate, and drinks are sold by the bottle. Prices are very reasonable, but if you're hankering for a refill, you'll have to buy another bottle. So sip that water or Pepsi slowly and make it last. The dining area is spotless, the service is quick, and the staff is friendly as always. Sure, there can be a little language barrier now and then, but if this old country boy can figure it out, I promise you can too. So grab your chopsticks (or a fork, no judgment here) and swing by this clean, quiet spot next time you're in the area. China Bob's always delivers a satisfying, no-fuss meal that'll leave you smiling -- and maybe wishing it was just a little spicier.
