The food is amazing, the people are so friendly and nice. The place is super clean for a buffets. The new hot spot in Tuscaloosa everyone should check it out. It's a very calm chilled place with amazing food. The bathrooms are super clean also. The freshest food you ever have.

Good Chinese Food with a Unique Bonus…read more Mr. Chen's is a solid choice if you're craving Chinese food in Tuscaloosa. I wouldn't call it exceptional, but it's consistently good, and there's a legitimate case that it may be the best Chinese restaurant in town depending on what you're looking for. The attached Chinese grocery store is what really sets it apart. It's fun to browse before or after your meal and offers a unique experience that you won't find at most local restaurants. On the food side, the Orange Chicken, General Tso's Chicken, and Mongolian Beef were all flavorful and worth ordering again. The egg roll, fried rice, crab angels, hot and sour soup, and tapioca milk tea were all enjoyable as well. My only disappointment was the hot mustard. Instead of homemade hot mustard, they only offer the standard packaged packets. It's a small detail, but homemade mustard would have been a nice touch. Overall, Mr. Chen's serves quality Chinese food in a city with relatively limited options. Between the reliable menu and the attached Asian market, it's definitely worth a visit and one of the better places in Tuscaloosa for Chinese cuisine.

Let me tell you about our first rodeo at Shiki…read more We pulled up excited, walked in... and I ain't gonna lie -- the place looked a little drab. Not "health department issue" drab, just "could use a fresh coat of paint and a pep talk" drab. I started second-guessing all those glowing reviews like, "Did these folks eat at the same place?" Then came the entrance situation. The host stand was vacant. No "please wait to be seated" sign. Just us standing there like we were about to audition for a sushi commercial. So we start to seat ourselves when the lone waiter -- and I mean lone ranger -- glances over and says, "Just a minute." Oh. Copy that. We did the walk of shame right back to the door and waited properly this time. After sitting a spell, he got to us and took our order. Now bless his heart -- that man was running ragged. Every table was full and he appeared to be handling the whole dining room solo. Plates, drinks, orders, probably washing dishes in the back too. We waited... and waited... and waited. It was pushing 30 minutes before the food finally touched down. Now let's talk about the decor. The inside could use some TLC. Maybe a little facelift. Maybe some brighter lighting. Maybe a plant that's alive. But hear me clearly: What the front of house is missing, the chef in the back is absolutely making up for. From the first bite of that ginger salad to the last grain of rice, I started wondering if I'd accidentally walked into an episode of Iron Chef. That salad was crisp and fresh, the soup was on point, and then my salmon hibachi showed up like it had something to prove. And let me tell you -- that salmon was spectacular. Cooked just right. Flavorful. Tender. Seasoned like somebody back there cares deeply about their craft. That chef can flat-out throw down on the grill. Great food. Great flavor. Zero complaints about what hit the plate. Price? Outstanding. Party of two ate for under $50 at a sit-down restaurant -- and that's including a 30% tip. In this economy? That's practically a public service. So here's where I land: (4 out of 5 stars) If service had been quicker, we'd be talking five stars without hesitation. But I'm giving grace here because that waiter looked like he was one espresso away from levitating, and the place was packed -- which, by the way, is usually the surest sign the food's top-notch. We'll be back. And next time, we'll walk in with patience... and maybe a snack in our pocket just in case. Bottom line: Don't judge this book by its cover. The outside may whisper "meh," but the kitchen is singing hallelujah.

We started with the jalapeño calamari, which is always so delicious. We also ordered the spicy tuna tartare, and it was incredibly fresh and packed with flavor. I got the hibachi salmon, and it was honestly some of the best salmon I've ever had. My boyfriend ordered the hibachi shrimp, which was also delicious. The rice and noodles were so flavorful--I could honestly just eat those and be completely happy. We also tried the vegetarian lovers sushi combo, which came with a tofu roll, an avocado roll, and a cucumber roll. Everything was very fresh and super tasty. Another great experience, and it's no surprise that we'll definitely be going back!

It's basically a bowl place with choice of rice, protein and veggies. The food was nice and hot when we got it. Lots of bright colorful graphics for the interior. It was clean and nice. Young adults working when we were there. They were nice and efficient so the service was fine. They have a white meat chicken options which I liked. A bowl is very filling. Egg rolls are tasty too. Overall a good fast food alternative for Asian. I recommend it over the more popular big name places.

I ordered a side of fried rice, which is supposed to come with peas and carrots, but there were maybe 2 or 3 peas in the whole dish. The rice leaned on the gummy and sweet side, and it tasted very processed. The yum yum sauce was only .75¢ so I can't complain, but they did not fill it as much as I would've liked. The chicken egg roll was pretty good, but the sweet and sour sauce was very liquidy and I like it with a little more thickness. They only have pepsi products, so plan ahead. They were out of diet pepsi when I came. Not their fault, but it would've been nice to have it. I came during their specials hour so my drink was only .99¢, so I can't complain too much. Wasn't the best experience I've had, but not enough to dock more than two stars. I can at least say I've tried this place.

I seen they had the Orange Chicken Bowl and thought OMG that sounds great but boy was my head, my heart, my taste buds, and my wallet sadly disappointed!! I got home with the box and it was a 1/3 full at best and I could have gotten better than this quality at a Panda Express. Really thought I was being edgy and stepping out on a limb by ordering from a "Ghost Kitchen" boy was I sadly mistaken. I should have hit the Burger King and just went on about my life but here I am writing this review because I called and expressed my concerns and thought maybe just maybe they gave me the kid portion and charged me for the fat kid portion but they disagreed and didn't wanna talk and hung up on me. I would love to tell you try this place and get great food and more than you can eat in one sitting but that just isn't the case today. Strongly recommend not trying it in Tuscaloosa, who knows maybe somewhere else it maybe wonderful but as for today and this location go to Krystal and get a sack full it'll be more enjoyable!!
