I was excited to be traveling through the Athens area today to eat at China Panda. However my experience was not that great. I got the General Tso's chicken lunch combination with Hot and Sour soup. The soup was not very hot when it arrived at the table but it has a good taste. When the main course arrived I had about five pieces of chicken and TONS of sauce. My rice was also not very warm and was super sticky. Almost a little gummy. It has a average taste. Not what I remembered it being when I lived in Athens. Also I found it odd that there were small children working in the restaurant today doing prep work and rolling silverware in the dining area where patrons could see them. Overall I will probably not go back. It's sad because o really used to love this place. read more

Ordered from the chinese menu for dinner. Combination dinners come with soup, egg roll and rice for about $8. Ordered from the japanese lunch menu a week later. The bento box was only $9 with really good tempura and california roll sushi. Best chinese/japanese food I've found in Athens. read more

My husband and I started coming here when we were dating, and now we like to stop in whenever we have the opportunity to eat a meal in Athens. The Chinese food is excellent, while the Japanese food seems good, but not really worth the premium price they charge for it. The place also has a nice ambience and never seems to get noisy no matter how many people are there. read more

If you're looking for a good American-style Chinese restaurant, look no further. The lunch bento box is a primo deal, and they have the best sushi in town. Can be a little pricey by comparison to other places in the area, but worth it. No delivery, no buffet, but solid. Recommend this every time. Anyone who doesn't give this place 5 stars is nuts. Best carryout Chinese in town! Crab Rangoon, pot stickers, Kung pao chicken, general tsos, and the fried rice are spot on. The soup is great, so is the sushi. And the best part- a sticker machine in the breezeway with glitter tattoos. read more

The Chinese menu is not good--poorly made appetizers, poorly fried entrées. The Japanese menu fantastic. The sushi is not cheap, but definitely the best you can get in Athens (which isn't saying much in itself, but it is still good). Sit at the sushi bar for the best. And the sushi chefs don't split tips with servers (if you just put it on your card), they have their own tip jar, which I use as they do a very good job! read more

I believe you need to give credit when it's due. My server, Lin, was absolutely wonderful tonight. She was so attentive and friendly. Honestly, she embodies what the service industry's model employee is. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is the sushi was mediocre. I've been eating here for 12 years. Since 2008 this was my favorite Chinese Restaurant in town and the Sushi was also pretty good. They have progressively stopped taking care to produce consistently high quality food. Frequently the wontons are poorly cooked and are very mushy. Their condiments have become increasingly more watered down. The general tsao chicken is hit and miss and my be soggy rather than crispy. The sushi is half as well prepared as it was when they first opened but is still probably the beat of the 3 other options in this town. If their children are taking your order, it's going to be wrong. I'm done. It's been fun. I will not be back. They have forever lost me as a customer. I would try another place if I were you. They have lost their appreciation for their customers. You can tell this by the fact that the four best parking spaces in front of the restaurant are utilized by the owners and employees!! read more

The service is very friendly and fast. The LOCAL owner is very thoughtful and customer-focused. My husband loves Japanese food and I love Chinese food and this restaurant has both. I like the lemon chicken. There are a lot of choices. The restaurant is always busy. I would like it better if they turned off the TVs. read more

China Panda is one of two good Chinese food restaurants in Athens OH. It has a similar menu to China Fortune and to my delight it also carries Japanese fare. It is one of my favorite places to eat. If you go on a Friday night expect to wait a little for a table but it is worth the wait! Enjoy! read more

I don't think I've ever had a bad meal at this place. I order from the Chinese menu, and love everything I've ever gotten. My husband orders from the Japanese menu often and loves the sushi here. All the staff are friendly. There is a "locals" only menu not advertised for those internationals and locals alike who want a "true" chinese menu. But it's handwritten on a piece of paper in Chinese! When we move back home, I will truly miss this gem in Athens! read more

The best sushi in Athens! All of my friends and I agree that this place is amazing for sushi. The crab ragoons are also amazing! However, I normally go here as a special treat or special occasion because with two people, it normally runs a bill of $30. Not much for a wealthy person, but as a college student - $30 can't be spent everyday. :) read more

Clean. Great service. Food (beef n broc) was very good and fresh. First time here but won't be the last.

I can't give a fair judgment of most of the food, because they fudged up our order so bad we barely got any. We ordered online, were told to wait 20 minutes - when I came in to collect, the kid running the register (who seemed completely overwhelmed and untrained, but was nice enough I guess) said the order hadn't even been placed yet. He manually keyed it in. 20 more minutes, and I try again. This time, I get a bag with about 40% of the things we ordered in it. At this juncture I can either wait another 20+ minutes --bringing our total wait up to an hour for takeout sushi that was supposed to take 20 minutes -- to get the rest (if we're lucky), or do what I did - cut my losses, pay for what I got, and leave. All this for decent-ish maki. Would've been better off just grabbing some pre-made sushi at Kroger. Don't waste your time. read more

I've eaten here a couple of times but this is the first time I've had something other than sushi. Their sushi is usually OK. Nothing great but I don't have many choices in Athens. Today I tried the wonton soup, egg roll and Sesame Chicken. It was pretty bad. I'm not a food snob, but the wonton soup was so cold I had to send it back to be reheated (I've never sent food back before). The egg roll tasted like burnt fry oil and the Sesame chicken tastes like it was made a couple days ago and reheated. It had that rubbery consistency and wasn't hot throughout. I may eat here again but it won't be for anything other than sushi. read more

I've been to this place for take out 3 times now because several people have indicated its good. I can't say I've had a good experience ever. My order has been wrong every time. Shame in me for not checking it in my car? I shouldn't have to! I order veggie dishes that are delivered in meat versions... Order sushi and get the wrong rolls or fish. And worst if all, fish that is hard around the edges or will scales still attached. This place really grosses me out. The prices for the Chinese food are about the only good thing I can think of. read more

(the four-star rating is ONLY for the sushi, definitely not the food i've had from the chinese menu.) the sushi here is pretty good, albeit a little expensive. the sushi chefs warm the fish in their hands, so nothing is so cold that you can't taste it. the white tuna was out of this world. the rainbow roll was kind of small for the price, but the chefs seemed to care about what they were doing. they have surf clams, one of my favorite, and i watched the chef carefully cut these thin little buggers in half and remove small bits that he deemed unpalatable. all of the fish smelled fresh, and the coolers are neat and seemed very clean. there is a lot of care and attention put into the sushi department. the chinese menu seems to be "imported" word-for-word from china fortune, another athens restaurant. in fact, the woman i believe to be the proprietor of this establishment used to be my favorite waitress at china fortune when i was a college student. i feel this is cause for a raised eyebrow or two. and nothing i have ever ordered from the chinese menu is nearly as good as the same items from china fortune. the frying wasn't done well, the seasoning was ham-handed and clumsy, and my shrimp with broccoli tasted only (and strongly) of raw garlic. the egg roll was mediocre, and the hot and sour soup was only okay, as well. the server sprayed some nasty cleaning product on the table next to us, and it was kind of sickening and definitely dtracted from the already slightly-below-average dining experience. she was very nice, though, and probably didn't realize how offensive it smelled. i would give the chinese menu a 1 or 2 stars out of five. i've never ordered form the japanese hot menu aside from miso soup a few years ago, which i remember being decent. to sum up: if you want sushi, this is the place to go in athens. if you want well-prepared chinese cuisine, i'd say this is a definite pass. read more
