Looking at the current reviews and this place is seriously underrated. I definitely think if you're…read moreconsidering coming here, you 100% should. The customer service is 10/10 from the amazing and funny host, Mr. Rogers to our very kind and very accommodating server, Tyler. We came on Father's Day without a reservation and Mr. Rogers was so so nice to be able to squeeze us in. I definitely recommend making a reservation if you can though lol You must ask for Tyler if you can. He's 100% honest with his recommendations, charming, and you can tell he cares about the service he provides. The food was very delicious and very much worth the money. I had the seafood basket and got two big pieces of catfish that were so hot and crispy. It came with very seasoned fries. I'm still thinking about the Jambalaya oysters. I've never had anything like them and was more than pleased with them. Really liked the seafood fried rice. I wish it had a little soy sauce mixed into but still so good with very large shrimp in it. I also like that this place has a policy where if you don't like your food they are more than happy to bring you something else. My husband also got two watermelon margs that he said he liked. The drink deal was good! Overall everything was great. I think the only reason why it was 4 instead of 5 stars is because there was a little hiccup with the staff in the beginning. It was quickly resolved but it was a little awkward for a first impression. I'd definitely still be willing to come back though.

Staying in the Short North district, I walked by the House of Creole and decided to check it out…read more Walking in, I chose a bar seat to grab a quick bite for dinner. Next to the bar there was a wonderful group singing some old standards to jazzy takes on today's hit music. The bartender handed me a menu. She was very nice, answering questions I had about the menu I decided to start with a bowl of gumbo and order the Crispy Chicken Salad. The gumbo was full of flavor with large chucks of chicken and slices of sausage. It had the right amount of spice to it and the right portion of rice. For the salad, it was pretty lackluster... the chicken was good, though for a creole restaurant, I would have expected it to be more seasoned. The salad was also covered in shredded (packaged) cheese. For this kind of salad, the greens were insufficient; a chicken salad should have some "crisp" in the greens. The greens used seemed like they came from a Mixed Spring greens bag, where this salad could have benefited in using Romaine lettuce and some frisée. This restaurant was good, but has the potential to be better.
