I ordered all of my favorite classics: spring rolls, beef teriyaki, crab rangoons, bbq spare ribs, pork fried rice, beef with broccoli, sweet and sour chicken, veggie lo mien, and a hot and sour soup.... This place had such good reviews but I will definitely not be returning. The food was fresh but I think McDonald's would've had better Chinese food. Everything just had such a weird flavor. The bbq spare ribs were SO dry, the spring rolls definitely seemed like they were frozen and they tasted like soggy puff pastry outside without any puff. The sweet and sour chicken and crab rangoons were fine at best but the lo mien was not good and the beef and broccoli was left practically untouched. The hot and sour soup had no hot or sour element to it. Maybe this is what is popular around this area but this didn't taste like any Chinese food I've ever had. If you are looking for good classic American Chinese food I would keep looking. read more

The wings, shrimp, and rangoons, looked like the were either over fried, or the deep fryer needed an oil change. The quality went from top notch, to common all you can eat buffet type. We go to China star at least once every few weeks. Their food is excellent. Their takeout is always hot and freshly cooked. Their steamed potstickers are the best, and we've never had to wait long at all. I had to give them six stars if there was a spot for it. read more

It's all about the food China Star is a very typical Americanized Chinese type place. Looks like a bezillion other restaurants of this kind and even has a common name that I've seen numerous times. It has a few booths inside but like most restaurants of this type I suspect most of their business is take out. The decor is exactly what you would expect and the menu has the standard fare. Certainly at first glance nothing stands out. However the one thing that separates this restaurants from all it's kindred cousins is the food. It was excellent. Not only were the portion huge, prices reasonable but the food was definitely exceptional. The chicken and broccoli I got was probably the best I every had. The broccoli was crisp and colorful and and the whole thing was covered by a very light but different and tasty sauce. Quite a pleasant surprise. Sure, it isn't much to look at and the menu is the pretty much the same stuff but a restaurant is ultimately about the food. BEST CHINESE FOOD IN THE AREA! All the food is fresh, full of flavor and high quality. Really big portions. Besides some very fancy places in bigger cities around here, this is the best I've had. I won't call this your everyday, average Chinese takeout place because- while the food is to be expected, the quality is not. I placed my order online, which was nice. It allowed me to get out all of my hemming and hawing while utilizing my back button. The site could be easier to navigate, but I'm not complaining. I ordered steamed dumplings, hot & sour soup, boneless spare ribs, and a mongolian chicken combo dinner. dumplings were huge and, at 8 for $6 and change, a total value. they come pan-fried or steamed, and i went with steamed. sometimes that can cause the dough to be gummy, but these were clean, fresh, and delish. filling was plentiful and yummy. potsticker sauce came in its own little bag which initially caused me grief that it had possibly been left out (what's a dumpling without potsticker sauce?!), but was very pleased to see it was self-contained in case any spillage were to occur. hot & sour soup was one of the more complex i've had. it was chock full of egg, chicken, bamboo shoots, woodear mushrooms, tofu- you name it. spice level was moderate, and the viscosity was wonderful. boneless spare ribs were a great value. i got the small for $6 and change. these- to me- were cooked perfectly. they were just a bit charred, so there was a smoky essence that penetrated the sweet sauce. some might have found them overdone (and i'm not sure if this was just my order, or general practice), but i was over the moon. mongolian chicken. not what i'm used to. for me a "mongolian" preparation usually means a sweet sauce with a heavy presence of scallions. this was completely different. what i got was super moist and tender chicken with assorted veg (onions, carrots, mushrooms, baby, corn, peppers, water chestnuts) in a tangy/spicy sauce. it's delicious, but not what i think of when i think "mongolian." the pork fried rice that accompanied it was delicious and chock full of tiny pork chunks, bean sprouts, and onion. the egg roll was standard and left nothing to disappoint. all in all, i would (will) definitely come here again to have my chinese takeout needs met. tip: while you can order online, you'll need to pay in store. they no longer accept payment over the phone. read more

We ordered a bunch of food tonight including 2 Pupu platters, 2 General Tso Chicken, Cashew Shrimp and House Lo Mein. It was enough food to feed 8-10 people but we were only 5 so there was tons of leftovers. By far the best Chinese food place that we've found since moving to the area! Everything is always consistently tasty and of good quality. I enjoy the varied veggie/tofu options and my husband loves the rice noodle dishes. The inside of the restaurant is nothing to brag about and is exactly what you would expect from a Chinese restaurant in a strip mall setting. But, the food is really good compared to other places we've visited in the area. You can also order online, but this option is a little difficult to navigate and is missing a lot of descriptions of dishes. It's much easier to either order in person or via phone and ask questions. The fried rice had barely a vegetable and had to do a major search of the shrimp egg foo yung to find any shrimp. The main disappointment is the really that lack of flavor now.
