I've been to Jade Gardens in Danielson a few times the place is always clean. I went in and I knew New Year's not sure what was going on. I seated myself. I grew up with Jade Garden as my favorite Chinese food. I moved about an hour away almost 5 years ago and have yet to find Chinese food that I like. After trying at least 5 different places in our area, nothing comes even close to Jade Garden. My family and I were out this way today and just had to swing by. We ordered a pu pu for 4, pork fried rice, and crab rangoons. There's no dining inside due to Covid at the moment, so being that our house is an hour away, we decided to put our lawn chairs out in the parking lot and eat by our truck. My husband and I couldn't stop talking about how amazing every single thing was. I so wish we had one closer to us. read more

Average food for an above average price. The dinner/lunch combo plates were a bit more than they used to be (up by about a dollar and a half) which I wouldn't have an issue with if the portion sizes were competitive with other Chinese take out places, or if the food were stellar. Unfortunately, the portion size was much smaller than others in the area and the quality was just like any other Chinese restaurant, which gives me no reason to return. The non-combo individual entrees seem fairly priced BUT I am hesitant to try, as I am afraid the average price would only get me a small portion. Growing up in the area, this was always one of the best Chinese places around. Unfortunately it seems the quality has gone downhill. The last time we ate in the portions were generous, but the boneless ribs were dry and over cooked as if we had gotten the bottom of the pan. Decided to give the place another try with takeout and was extremely disappointed this time. The portions were so skimpy that there was barely enough food, and we usually always have leftovers. I could tell right away the portions were smaller, so much so that I opened the bag in the parking lot thinking maybe they forgot to pack part of our order. The chicken fingers were about the size of McDonald's chicken nuggets, the beef teriyaki were half the size they usually are, the egg rolls had hardly any filling, and the ribs were dry and over cooked again. Ordered takeout like we have a hundred times. Opened containers to find portions sizes that one would expect from a lunch menu. Mind you it was dinner, and we paid dinner prices. The chicken fingers were all breading, the beef teriyaki was 1/2 the stick, and the boneless pork was a few pieces. General Tso chicken was a skimpy portion. I enjoyed Chinese food and I live locally. But every time I do decide to get Chinese I'm reminded of why it's been a while since my last purchase. My very first visit was with my family who is visiting from out of town. I ordered lemon with my water and was told I could not have a lemon in my water. I asked them to charge me for it and she said no I had to buy a soda or something to go with it. Since then, over the years, The portions continue to decrease the prices continue to go up and the oil is horrible it just is getting greasier and greasier. I ordered a large container of wonton soup and get nothing but broth and perhaps four wontons. Very disappointing. You still love their eggrolls but not so much anymore. I know times are tough but they're tough for all the rest of us as well. Just changing the oil more often would make a huge difference in the quality of their food. A restaurant out in Willamantic was recommended and we may actually make the trip to have some Chinese food. Seems a shame when we have a restaurant several miles down the road. read more

Jade Garden has always been one of my favorite restaurants in the area for greasy Americanized Chinese. They are a little on the pricey side for take out though. I love their egg rolls and egg foo young. Hands down best fried rice in the area. Anything you might get that resembles "real" Chinese food, however, is usually disappointing. This is strictly catering to the unhealthy Chinese food that the area loves. They definitely love their regulars and the staff is efficient and courteous. I wish they would update the decor a bit, as its right out of 1993, with the wear and tear to prove it. If you eat there, be sure to get a scorpion bowl! They have fairly typical American Chinese food. For me, the biggest draw is their fried rice. Their fried rice is the best I've ever had, it is different from the fried rice that other Chinese restaurants in the area serve. They are very generous with the veggies (yes, bamboo shoots!) Their pu pu platter gives a nice variety for those who like to try a little of everything. Everyone who has their scorpion bowl loves it. The woman who I believe owns it is very friendly. Their service is fairly fast. I would give a higher rating, but they are very overpriced for their food. You could go to China Garden down the street to get similar food for a much lower price. The other thing I marked them down for is their egg rolls. Egg rolls are one of my favorite foods, and I find theirs to be just terrible (though others like them). read more

The food was alright. Not the best, but also not the worst. Here is the biggest problem with this place. They steal your money! We paid cash and card. I asked to put $20 on my card and the rest was paid in $40 in cash. It was a $52 bill so $60 was enough with tip. He charged my card $32.15 and brought back $7 and some change. He then walked away from the table knowing what he did and disappeared. I walked to the bar to complain and he was standing there smiling and quickly turned away as I approached. I went to the bartender, pointed out the servers mistake and demanded a fix. I now have two withdrawals and a void on my statement. I didn't leave a tip except for this one to all of you. Have to agree with the majority here, the price/portion ratio is pathetic! At least for takeout, maybe they're more oriented toward dining in. But the standard plastic trays which we're used to opening up so carefully because they're packed tight full and will spill if you're not careful taking the lid off -- looked little more than half full! Will depart from some others and allow that the food itself was fine, not exceptional -- just about half what we would expect. And I'm talking about feeding myself, the wife, and 3 or 4 kids, so we dropped quite a bit of dough. Usually too we have leftovers enough for a plateful or two the next morning -- this was gone in 15 minutes! So maybe try this place for a date for two or a drink at the bar with an eggroll or something, but if you're looking for a hearty meal at home -- pass. read more

We've been there 1/2 dozen times or so. Certainly NOT because the food is that good... just that the area has "slim pickings" as far as Chinese food goes. Normally we eat in. Drinks were always weak and service (as others mention) is rude/unfriendly and as if you're a bother. Lights are super bright inside- between everything it just makes for an uncomfortable environment. Last time we ate in, I paid with a credit card and left a 20% plus tip in cash. As soon as we stood up the waitress couldn't take the money fast enough, counting it as soon as she picked it up. Simply RUDE in all aspects. Tonight, I ordered a few items to go. One of them being pork fired rice. As the guy snagged my 20 out of my hand I politely asked if there was duck sauce inside the bag. He VERY rudely raises his voice and says NO! Fried rice NOO come with duck sauce! Then says, your dumplings come with ginger sauce, not the rice- no sauce included. As if I'm an idiot to want duck sauce. At that time the phone rings and he takes an order and hands me back my change without even looking in my direction. Just as I turned to walk away he then opens a small fridge next to the phone and throws a tiny 1/8th ounce container of duck sauce next to my bag. I left it right there..... sorry I like a touch of sauce your normally DRY, bland rice. Acted like a total AS*. So, that will be our LAST transaction between Jade Garden and this family. His main issue was clearly giving me that sauce after he gave me the amount- not the fact that it doesn't "go together" So buddy, you keep your 3 cents worth of duck sauce and we'll travel further for good Chinese food from now on. Again, food FAIR AT BEST. Also tastes like its LOADED with MSG. Funny what a 2-3 cent condiment turned into. Keep the change Bud! Should this review become "hidden" it will be reposted. read more
