This is our second favorite place to get Chinese take out. The food is pretty yummy without any adverse after effects. Quick service with friendly staff. We are a family of 6 and everyone enjoys this place. Would recommend if you are in the area.

Looks just like a million other places

It's all about the food China Star is a very typical Americanized Chinese type place. Looks like a bezillion other restaurants of this kind and even has a common name that I've seen numerous times. It has a few booths inside but like most restaurants of this type I suspect most of their business is take out. The decor is exactly what you would expect and the menu has the standard fare. Certainly at first glance nothing stands out. However the one thing that separates this restaurants from all it's kindred cousins is the food. It was excellent. Not only were the portion huge, prices reasonable but the food was definitely exceptional. The chicken and broccoli I got was probably the best I every had. The broccoli was crisp and colorful and and the whole thing was covered by a very light but different and tasty sauce. Quite a pleasant surprise. Sure, it isn't much to look at and the menu is the pretty much the same stuff but a restaurant is ultimately about the food. Considering the price, portions and superb quality of the food China Star represents the pinnacle of small, take out Chinese joints.

I have purchased it two times now recently went in and sat think owner serve me took me ever to get the order in the chicken was all bread. There was no chicken in and what little there was what is chewy and overcooked the beef teriyaki was tough and overcooked to the point that I didn't even eat it. The only thing I ate was the crab Rangoon in the rice I did not order tea. I got charged for tea. T came to the table, but I don't drink tea. I asked for Sprite as I said sprite didn't come the tea came. I was so dissatisfied with the meal. I argued with him in regards to the price and that's something I never do. My second visit was a takeout I ordered my usual went into get my order hand me the order charges me more than what it would've cost for my meal Went to a quiet place, opened the order to find chicken wings and some brown colored soup and other things that I didn't order. I called him up and said this is not my order. I brought it back. He adjusted the price he gave me my order they brought the other order back to the kitchen. Can't tell you what they did with it. Maybe we packaged it, but since I didn't see, I can't tell you for sure but it came back out very quickly. The other meal to someone else but that's an assumption so is keep it as that I got home opened my meal again general gau chicken was mostly bread. What little pieces of chicken was in there was tough and chewy and it was mostly all bread batter. The beef teriyaki was overcooked and tough so tough. I could not rip pieces off of it so I didn't eat that either. he did give me an extra soup to compromise the mistakes, but unless things change there, I don't see it happening happening bad service bad food not once but twice there needs to be some kind of major overhaul of their practices in food there's other places that have better service and better food at this point I was very displeased with the food and service.

We asked for tea and water and my kiddos got orange soda. We went to the buffet where we noticed the quality of food didn't look so great but we decided to stick to it. We came back to the table and sat down with our food. Right away I noticed the back wall at the table behind the napkins was filthy. And quickly after my husband showed me his cup for the tea. It was disgusting! And I looked at mine and it too was so dirty! I put two ice cubes in it so that I could wet the inside and wipe it out with a napkin. (See the photos of my dirty cup and the napkin of the stuff I wiped out of my cup). Nasty! Obviously their dishwasher isn't doing the job. The silverware was also very tarnished and I wiped stuff off of them too! The service was meh. The food was flavorless and of poor quality. The only thing I found that was decent was the chicken and broccoli. The crab rangoons were chewy but the filling was ok. We finished eating and left. We all agreed that we would not return to this place. It was dirty and the food was lacking! Don't waste your money! Go elsewhere! They obviously don't care about their business. This place could be so much better if they tried!

Medium spicy level Biang Biang noodles with pork: (4/5) their signature hand-pulled noodles are sautéed in a medium spicy sauce with pork. Overall this place hits the spot for an authentic Chinese meal without the glitz and glamour.

It feels like something from a vintage movie. If only they would turn the heat on ... they keep it super cold inside in the winter, so much so that we had to wear our jackets while we ate and deal with runny noses. How much could heat cost? The food here is very average. You won't hate your meal, but you also probably won't love it. The fried rice is bland and you can certainly tell it isn't made fresh as all the ingredients seem to be old and reheated several times. The lunch specials are pretty complicated to order ... you pick your special, then you pick a side from a list and then you pick one other side. Customization is cool ... but it gets confusing. The staff here is very aloof. They are never there when you need them ... they have all the personality of a block of ice ... and seem mildly annoyed if you ask for anything. (extra hot mustard ... a refill on water ... substitutions in your order, etc.) I understand that there is a pretty significant language barrier with most, but it comes across more as rudeness and apathy than a language understanding issue. The best dish I've ever had here was the shrimp in house sauce. Everything else is on par with most Chinese restaurants post-pandemic ... the quality and portion size is down, while the prices are up. It's not bad snack food ... or lunch food ... but I am not sure if I could eat here as a full meal and leave feeling satisfied. In the area, there are not too many choices for Chinese food. There is Yummi in Dudley, which is as bad at is gets lately. There is Empire Wok in Dudley, which is about as clean as a men's room at a Patriots game. And Kahlua in Southbridge which is a bit hood. Overall, this is the spot I'd choose if I was in the Dudley/Southbridge area and looking to grab Chinese food. Shrinkflation is real here.
