We are new Buffalonians and have found this to be our go-to Chinese restaurant so far. We love their Mapo tofu and shredded potatoes. We just found a new favorite--pork tripe with sour cabbage! I could eat multiple bowls of rice with these three dishes and have done so :P I am so happy to have found this wonderful place with authentic flavors. A little price but they are good portions. We have had these for three meals with loads of white rice haha Also tried their fish with sour cabbage and cabbage and shrimp. Both were really good!
The food is so good. We visited Buffalo for 3 nights and we had 3 meals here They all get served in a real hot. Good Chinese food need fire to cook to perfection. We really love it here. You can pay cash here, check with the store. Even though the space is not big but they distribute the space well. I don't feel crowded at all. We tried Sunday special, soy milk and more. Love it. Also tried chicken with spicy sauce, appetizer, scallion pancake and mapo tofu. Didn't take photo .. too hungry. I guess you can order anything here. Because we ordered 8-9 things, they are all really good. The service is great. They are all nice.
The best Chinese food in the area. Everything is good, but what impressed me was they perfectly executed a couple technically difficult dishes that are hard to find elsewhere: sauteed pork liver and candied sweet potatoes. If you've never had pork liver, it tastes nothing like poultry liver; the texture is more like a tender cut of beef. It's easy to skip steps or get the timing or seasoning wrong, but China Taste gets it all right. Same with the candied sweet potatoes, which are basically soft and tender on the inside and coated in sugar heated until it just melts, so it forms a thin coat that crystalizes into a crisp caramel shell when dipped in cold water. These you have to order in, takeout isn't the same The leek egg and shrimp dumplings are great. I like the black moss tofu soup but its texture isn't for everyone. The eggplant with minced pork I get a lot but is saltier and heavier on the oil than their other dishes. There was an egg tofu dish we've gotten in the past that was excellent. We've also gotten some basic chicken and beef dishes and really it's always been delicious. Anyway this is the only Chinese takeout place we order from and it's even better now that it's open for dine-in again. The service is great by the way. Tea quickly refilled and staff is attentive but unobtrusive. If you speak Mandarin they do too, but you obviously don't have to.
Came here for lunch with my boyfriend. Been here a couple of times but the first time for my boyfriend. I normally like to get authentic Chinese food When I come here. It is a small place but nice and cozy. I always get a protein or two and a veggie dish when I come with one other person. That is more than enough food for me. I always get the eggplant dishes cause I love eggplants :) the protein dishes are super good as well. I love their dumplings! It has a lot of flavors but I wish they are pan fried dumplings. The dishes are just a little pricey compare to other authentic Chinese food places. Other than the price, everything else is good.
Everything I said last time. With the following caveat: I've had the beef fried rice and the Sichuan style beef with cumin since. The beef fried rice is tasty. But, so, after a short conversation about spice level, I got the Sichuan beef "actually spicy" (chef's words) and wow, yes. Delicious. Raises the stars from four to five! What a difference it makes OMG!
Not to be confused with the restaurant of the same name down in Virginia... "VA China Taste." Oh wait. This is the best place in WNY for real Chinese food (better than the half dozen or so others offering it), and one of the 10 best restaurants in the region at the moment. If you don't finish your meal, it's China Waste. If you eat it too quickly, it's China Haste. If you put it in a blender, it's China Paste. If you forget what you ordered, it's China Spaced. If you add drugs to the meal, it's China Laced. If you spray some dude in the eyes because he's trying to grab your butt while you're eating, it's China Maced. And if someone eats all your leftovers out of the fridge and you don't know who, then it's China Vanished Without A Traced. And if you're virginal and have never done anything sexual like me, then it's China Chaste. Oh wait. What to get: Chicken w/ Eggplant in Brown Sauce. And about 10 other amazing dishes, especially the Spicy Diced Chicken. What not to get: The American stuff on the menu. Orange Chicken. Sweet N Sour. General Tsos. You name it. Just don't. It makes God cry. And Buddha. And Chairman Mao. Especially him. Also: It's not "the usual" Chinese menu. At all. It's real Chinese homestyle with a few Americanized fake sh**s mixed in there to pacify those that are afraid of real Chinese food and/or things that aren't loaded with sugar. One of the very best restaurants in the Western New York area serving wide range of authentic Chinese dishes as well as some Chinese American crap mixed in there. One of the best places in the area for Chicken Eggplant, and Chongqing Spicy Chicken (which is called Spicy Diced Chicken here), and all sorts of other top-notch deliciousness. Some things are slightly cheaper at lunch time. But then so is your mother. If you finish too quickly, then you China Raced through your dinner. Not sure why. Maybe because they're soooo busy here some nights that there is nowhere to sit. And the fact that 93.7% of customers are Chinese should tell you a lot. If it doesn't tell you a lot it's probably because it's trying to tell you a lot in Mandarin, and you don't speak Mandarin. Perhaps you speak Satsuma instead. I'm not trying to asuma that though. If I assume you did well on your SAT, then I'm an SATassumer. Besides, we all know you China Aced your SAT, so. The Spicy Diced Chicken is easily my fave version of it within a few hundred miles. They use real "numbing spices", the little heart-shaped peppercorns from Szechuan. They make good dumplings, hot pots, Lamb Cumin (with masses of cumin seeds all over it), but the Chongqing and Chicken Eggplant are my standout faves that I keep ordering, over and over. If you called here and made a bogus order, but they logged your number, then it's China Traced. The employees here are super friendly (I love the tattoo girl and the woman who mans, or womans, the cash register), and the chef has some very interesting quirks. You'll probably hear them for yourself, loudly, from the kitchen, if you come here often enough. Or honestly even if you come here once. If you pretend you like it, but then insult it secretly, you're China 2-Faced. I haven't had a dish here that I didn't like. Some of them I absolutely love. I can't decide whether I like this big delicious menu or the small delicious menu at Tasty Express down the road better, but what I do know is that we are exceptionally extremely lucky to have these two incredible authentic home-style Chinese restaurants right near each other right next to the UB campus here in Buffalo was used to have nothing like that at all. But if you eat here too often, you'll have an expanding China Waist. Since writing that, the other one - Tasty Express - has closed down. So while Peking Quick One and China King (Maple/N Forest) and Mandarin Garden still have great authentic stuff, China Taste is now *the* destination in WNY for real and delicious and expertly made homestyle Chinese cuisine. Which is why it's always so busy. And I need to start going tanning again. I'm getting China Pasty.
Had a work meeting that went long and needed lunch near UB North today. Stopped at this place to see if *by chance* there were still serving any lunch specials at 2:30 PM. They were (it's till 3!). I quickly looked over the menu and decided on my old stand by- beef and broccoli. The lunch special comes with rice, entree, and hot and sour soup. As the other reviewers have mentioned, there is a 10% cash discount! I waited about 10 minutes and had my lunch special to go! All of the staff were very friendly and I went home to enjoy lunch. The portions are quite generous and I was able to save my hot and sour soup for tomorrow's lunch making the price point ($10.50 for the lunch special) absolutely fabulous. The beef and broccoli was better than other versions that I have had at other local Chinese take out places. Everything was still piping hot when I got it home about 10 minutes after I left the restaurant and everything was packaged well/neatly. If you need a quick, cheap, and tasty lunch this is a solid choice.
We've dined in multiple times and did take out once. It's much better when you dine in. I feel like the food doesn't travel well. Today we dined in and got Kung Pao Chicken, Beef Udon, and Eggplant w Minced pork. The eggplant looked so amazing we started to eat it before I could take a picture. They serve it with the skin, but it's so flavorful that the bitterness of the eggplant skin compliments the overall dish. I love Spicy, and on a scale of 1-10, 10 being I have tears in my eyes and can't breath, it's 7. Definitely ask for rice to tone down the spice level. Sometimes Chinese can taste greasy or like it was made in dirty fryer oil-but anytime we've ate there it's never like that, which is a huge win. I am Chinese and all I have to say is this is the best Chinese food I have had in up state NY. I ordered the eggplant with minced pork and beef with green peppers for take out. They came with rice. And the portion is huge, I mean huge. The pictures don't justify the taste and the portion. The beef was juicy but not overall saucy. The eggplant is very tasty. If you crave for Chinese, you have to try this place!

This is the place for authentic traditional Chinese food. Here you'll find both the classic American Chinese dishes and traditional Chinese dishes. This is it. I only regret not finding this place sooner. The food is amazing. Not a single complaint with the food. Everything was perfect. My favorite is the Stir-Fried Cabbage w. Shrimp in Hot Pot (干锅高丽菜/干锅包菜）and the Cumin Beef (孜然牛). Something I'll absolutely order again next time. The Fried Yellow Croaker in Hot Sauce (干烧黄鱼) is also great. And that's coming from a guy who doesn't like fish. My only complaint is that they were slow to make our food. I get it's busy, but how are the other tables that came after us getting their food first? They have their table full with multiple dishes but I have yet to get one dish. The interior is simple, with lots of photos of the dishes and their names on the walls, which helps with ordering. Some things to note are that you'll get a small portion of fried peanuts and kimchi while you wait, you'll also be served free unlimited tea, and that the rice doesn't come with the entrees and are extra. They also offer a 10 or 15% discount if you pay in cash. read more
China Taste is our favorite Chinese restaurant in the Buffalo/Niagara region. Believe me when I say - it is one of very few authentic Chinese food places in the area. And no, it's not like any typical Chinese takeout place, and the fact that we drive 30min each way to eat there almost every chance we get shows just how much we love it. We always order enough food for 6-8 people and then take the rest home and eat them throughout the week. They have a huge menu and we continue to try one new dish every time we go. I don't have pics of everything we've ever ordered but our favorite items are: 1. sweet and sour pork - we always always always order this no matter what, and sometimes we get another order to go. It's nothing like the ones you get from other Chinese places. The coating is super crispy, and maintains its crispiness even after microwaving. The sauce is tangy with a hint of sweetness and not all thick/gooey and sugary like other places. I don't even like sweet and sour pork as a dish but I absolutely love and crave this all the time. 2. As for soups, we usually go for the Westlake beef soup. It's seasoned ground beef with tofu in a delicious egg drop like broth. It has a lot of cilantro so if you're not a fan of cilantro you won't like this. The wonton soup is very good too but it has seaweed in it for those who might not be a fan. I think you can probably ask for it without the seaweed though. 3. Scallion pancake stuffed with pork, beef, or lamb. All the meats are a little spicy and all are delicious, but our favorite is the pork. There's this homemade kimchi inside and it just makes it extra delicious. 4. Green beans and minced pork - it's my personal favorite vegetable dish. They did make this other dish that has bean sprouts with sliced pork but they took it off their menu a couple of months ago because not enough people order it :((( 5. All the dumplings. They're all homemade and I love them because the dough is not super thick like most other places. There's a good dough to filling ratio and that's one of the key characteristics of a good dumpling. We usually ask them to be pan fried (hubby prefers them that way) which takes extra long to do and costs extra, but is worth it if you like more of a potsticker style dumpling. Also, the wontons in spicy sauce is very tasty too - that's a dish we typically order as well. 6. We usually get some kind of beef dish. The ones I remember liking are the beef with scallions and onions, the black pepper beef, and the spicy shredded beef. I was ecstatic to see that I can order from China Taste on Uber eats. It usually takes 1hr to get it delivered but we live 30min away so that's expected. All the food are usually delivered still hot, and if not - they reheat very well, so no complaints here! read more

Taste has changed. The visual says it all. Either the chef changed or the owner changed. Quantity is larger but the there is a discernible drop in quality. Compare the two photos of the same dish, green beans- one from a recent order and one from Yelp review 6 months ago. read more

Ever since I left Atlanta, I've been searching for a Beef Brisket Noodle soup comparable to my favorite dish at Canton Cooks. At the suggestion of my co-worker, he suggested I try China Taste as it's supposed to be pretty authentic. So after hearing about this place, I've decided to give it a try today. I called in around 12:10pm, to place a pick-up order of Beef Brisket Noodle Soup. In addition to that, I also asked for hot oil on the side. I was told the order would be ready in about 10 minutes, which was pretty quick considering I had called in right at lunch time. Unfortunately, I didn't get there until about 20 minutes later. As I walked in, it was pretty packed. The lady at the counter knew immediately that I was picking up the Beef Brisket Soup, and right away, she checked for the hot oil and realized that it wasn't it in the bag, so she had the kitchen bring it out. After driving back to my office, I noticed that the soup container was pretty BIG in size and heavy in weight. Also, the soup was wrapped with plastic wrap so that the soup wouldn't spill in transit. I'm very impressed by the little details, and consideration by the establishment. The soup had beef brisket, noodles, and vegetables. In my opinion, the soup tasted a little bland, so I added salt to it. After that, it was much better. Also, the noodles seems to be a little overcooked and absorbed some of the broth, but that's probably because my soup wasn't "fresh" out of the kitchen. Not only was I was late picking it up, but I also had to drive back to my office before I could eat it. I think (maybe) next time, I'll eat in so that I can have it fresh. Overall, the service was VERY pleasant, but I do think I'll eat in next time. read more

I had this bookmarked for a while and it was pretty authentic! They haven't been opened for that long, but service and food is pretty good. They give appetizer while you wait; peanuts and this spicy kimchi. It was too spicy for me. The price is pretty decent for the portions. We got 6 orders, which consist of a scallion pancake, 2 beef dish, chicken dish, tofu, fish with glass noodles and dumplings. Start off with Scallion pancake, which was pretty good it comes with 8 pieces and it's not oily at all. Dumpling was okay because they only had pork, it comes with 20 pieces around $9. My favorite was the beef fish, I'll put in my picture which one since I got 2 dishes. However, they were very good! Chicken was okay. I didn't really like the fish dish because there was a lot of bones, but the glass noodles added a nice touch to it. read more

Authentic home-cooked Chinese food near University at Buffalo's North Campus. I love the location and enjoyed the food quite a lot. Staff was friendly and provided great service. Here is what I ordered: - Pork and Chinese Vegetable Dumplings: Only comes steamed/boiled. Wish it was fried, but it was still pretty good. - Shredded Pork over Cabbage (??): Weirdly, it's not shredded pork. It's pork belly. It was my favorite dish I ordered. - Ma Po Tofu: My least favorite, I did not enjoy the way this was flavored. It's different than what I've had in the past. But, to each their own. read more
The most authentic northern Chinese cuisine you will find in Buffalo! The food: They start off with some free appetizers- peanuts and some sort of spicy shredded cabbage. We ordered 家常豆腐/tofu homestyle，葱爆羊肉/lamb with scallion，猪肉白菜饺子/dumplings，梅菜扣肉/minced pork with preserved cabbage，葱油饼/scallion pancakes. Two of our dishes came out within 5 minutes, the rest followed as we were eating. All of our dishes tasted great and they were not drenched in oil (a huge plus). I highly recommend their 梅菜扣肉/minced pork with preserved cabbage. The price: Comparable to other Chinese restaurants in the area. It's good food so it's worth it. The service/atmosphere: It's a nice small restaurant. We were able to get seated right away on a Sunday evening. I personally liked how the kitchen was separated by a set of curtains, it made the restaurant feel very homely and cozy. Service was prompt, our tea was refilled multiple times throughout the dinner. We were able to have conversations without being constantly interrupted by 'how's everything', but we didn't feel neglected by the staff either. Overall: It's a wonderful little gem. They also do take out so I took a menu with me! They got themselves a returning customer for sure. read more

Absolutely not worth your money. I paid 15 dollars for General Tso chicken and it was disgusting. I am dissatisfied and lowkey annoyed that I spent that much on food. I only ate the rice. read more
This place is great for Real Chinese. The dining area is tightly packed however it has a truly Asian feel. We went here, on glowing reviews. This place was great. The service is quick the food was also great. We ordered several dishes to share, lamb pancakes, spicy squid heads, spicy wontons and steamed vegetables. We order pumpkin pancakes to go and they made the dessert in minutes. The service was great. China taste runs like clockwork, hands down this will be our go to sit down Chinese restaurant. Order hot n spicy chicken and general tsos. The general Taos is very good. Just enough sauce left over, fresh tasting, good spice. The spicy chicken was terrible. There is a spice used in the dish which turns my stomach. Most likely this is a personal problem. I wish there was a sauce to the spicy flavor, but this dish is only fried. As my husband puts it, a spicy popcorn chicken :/ They gave just one fork with two meal orders. I requested vegetable fried rice and got white. Which is why they get a 3 star. read more
