This place is now my go to place when I'm craving Chinese food. This place has always been crowded with international students from UB, which is always a good sign. Their cumin lamb and cumin fish fillet are amazing. Also their spicy shredded pork was really good. To be honest though, I think the prices are a bit more than other competitors, although you get a 10% discount for using cash. Rice is extra too, which usually isn't the case for other places. The food here is really good! The price however is steep and the service can be slow, especially if it's very busy as they don't have man power. I got the sweet and sour pork and it was delicious. My parents got a beef dish and a chicken dish and both of those were very good as well. The spaces were clean and they take credit cards which many Asian restaurants do not do in the area. I came here with my boyfriend who is actually from the same region of China as the owners, the northern city of Tianjin. Walking in, the place is a little tiny, almost a little too homey. Luckily we came a little before dinner time so did not have to wait. My boyfriend did all of the ordering which included seasoned lamb, egg soup, broiled fish, and dumplings. He did go a little overboard since the dishes are more of what you may consider family styles. However I did enjoy trying a variety of their dishes. The soup was nothing like I have ever tasted, the lamb and fish were very well seasoned, and the dumplings were fresh out of the steamer. The timing of dishes was a little odd and it seemed like everything was brought out as it was done, with the dumplings being after we finished the rest of the food. Overall, I'd say the uniqueness of the dishes served is how I came to my 5-star rating, in addition to me having no complaints about the 4 different dishes I tried! This used to be one of the two best Chinese restaurants in town. I enjoyed eating there so much for three or more years! The food and service was both decent, even better than some restaurants you would expect in Flushing or Rowland Heights. HOWEVER, things change, as people or your favorite restaurants. Some time in the Spring of 2019 it seems China taste had its new owner. The food remains the same taste but the service is extremely bad! One servant, a tall man, is even somehow rude, such as throwing a glass of water on your table without caring splitting. I'm not blaming that poor boy, maybe he had a long rough day or whatever the reason is. I just feel sorry for losing my favorite restaurant. read more

Food here is really good and portions are good for family style sharing. Only downside is price is on the slight steep end and some of the service staff don't speak much English and it's hard to understand them or ask any questions about some menu items. Though I am not very familiar with Chinese Cuisine, I liked every single dish I tried here! From the vegetables to meat, the dishes are great. I was disappointed in this place. The reviews are very good and talk about how great the food is. Maybe that is if you eat in. I tried to eat in a few times but it is always full as it is a very small dining area. The food was ok. Kung pao was good but very greasy. I had to transfer the food to another bowl to get rid of some of the grease. I got pork dumplings that were very average. There was no dipping sauce for the dumplings and one packet of soy sauce for everything. Not that I use a ton of soy sauce but one packet for 10 dumplings and an order of Kung pao chicken is pretty chincey. I would not avoid this place or anything and I plan on giving it another shot but my experience so far has not been the best or anything close to most of the reviews. The portions were large. I only ate about half of the food and the white rice was some of the best that I have had. Hoping it's better next time. read more

A great little place if you are looking for some authentic Chinese cuisine dishes. I was content with my orders but not entirely satisfied. The location of this store cannot be beat, for it is walking distance ( 15 minute?) from the north campus of the university at buffalo. A lot of the customers are international students and you can tell the second you walk in by all the people speaking mandarin. I ordered 3 dishes whilst ordering take out from here. I had the cumin lamb, cumin fish, and chicken eggplant. The cumin dishes were beyond expectation, however the chicken eggplant was over cooked and diced into very thin and withered slices, on top of the fact that it was drowned in oil. Not the most enjoyable dish but edible. All in all, I do like this place very much, I will continue making visits to this location. read more

This is by far one of the few authentic Chinese food in Buffalo. I'm impressed by the dishes and how flavorful it is. This is for people who love spicy food and Szechuan food! I used to get the spicy crispy chicken, spicy fish in oil, and a lot of the dishes for lunch special and it comes with soup. Definitely recommend - but the downside is that it's pretty pricey so do lunch special! read more

Just order take out for breakfast and very disappointed with the noodle. I ordered fry Udon but they are not using udon noodle because udon never mashed. They use regular noodle which i think self made very bad quality. It's soft and mashed. Taste nothing too. read more

This place never misses simple as that. Want to try something new? go for it. I always get Sweet and Sour Pork sooo good. I tried the Spicy Wontons and I think it was good but poorly packaged because by the time you open the wontons the steam has made them so soft. But the flavor is great and it's not really spicy. I also tried Fried String bean with minced pork it was very good flavor might be strong to someone who's never had it before but the flavor is very good, beans could be crispier for them to be fried. I have been there couple of times. The first thing that will surprise you is that they give you roasted nuts and a cabbage salad as soon you sit on the chairs. We ordered pork dumplings, crispy pork, spicy chicken and cumin lamb. The dumplings, pork and the lamb were really good and tasty. We were not happy with the chicken but the other foods were so good that ultimately we forgot that we were not happy with the chicken. A must go!!!! read more

I love Chinese and am always looking for authentic not Americanized. Well I found it here. Our group had the chicken and broccoli, the shredded pork with garlic sauce, the braised pork belly, pork with Chinese vegetable dumplings (20) in an order, rainbow noodles and a scallion pancake. The shredded pork with garlic sauce had the most amazing flavor ever. I always get garlic sauce dishes and never has the sauce tasted like this. Never can I have garlic sauce unless it is from here. The rainbow noodles (cold salad like dish you have to ask for it cause it is only in Chinese or the #8 in cold apps) were fresh crispy and amazing with the dressing (peanut, chili oil and garlic) it was oh so good. You know it must be authentic because 99% of the patrons were Asian. They have soup bowls that I will be back for that I am sure could feed a small army. They were huge. I live in Hamburg but will make the trip often to try more items that you do not find at your neighborhood Chinese restaurant. Oh and did I mention our Bill was only 53.00. I get really excited when I hear about a great Chinese place in Buffalo. I personally think authentic Chinese food is one of the best things that a lot of people haven't experienced. I was really excited to try China Taste, but I'm not sure it completely lived up to the hype. Let me start by saying that the food was great; there were definitely some highlights. Where I think this restaurant needs to improve is the service. I never expect a restaurant to have perfect service, but there is a certain expectation of things that restaurants should never do. I went to China Taste with one of my friends for dinner on a Saturday. The place was busy, but wasn't completely full. Getting a table was relatively easy, but I think some days there might be a wait. Our waitress was nice, and brought us drinks (FYI: the water is warm by the way). The food came out pretty quickly and was very good. Midway through the meal, as we were chatting, a waitress came over to the table. Without asking, or really saying anything, she reached across the table between me and my friend. We were cut of mid sentence as she grabbed a sauce off our table and brought it to another table, not asking, explaining or apologizing. I thought this was quite rude, but laughed it off. As we began to finish our meal, I noticed a desert on the menu that I'm fond of. We placed an order and finished up our meal. As we waited for the desert to come out, the hostess came over and interrupted our conversation to ask if she could get our payment so they could turn our table over. I was shocked, and our waitress had to come over and explain that we still had food on the way. There was definitely a suggestion that we had overstayed our welcome, even though we hadn't received all of our food. Overall the service probably deserves a 1/5. I also want to make clear that typically I don't focus on mediocre service, but this is the second time I've visited and second time I've had bad service. The first visit I went on was probably the worst service I've ever received at a restaurant, and It has become an inside joke between my friends. Yeah, it was comically bad. In terms of the food, China Taste definitely lives up to the reputation. The menu can be more intimidating than other places (duck blood soup, sea cucumber, chicken feet, etc). The dumplings were great (and rival another well known Buffalo dumpling establishment), and the crispy eggplant with brown sauce was fantastic. The sweet potato desert is something not to miss: they cook the sweet potato with sugar until it's Carmel coated. At the table, you dip the hot pieces into ice water, creating a candy coating on the outside. Don't pass it up. Overall: the food is excellent, but the service was appalling. Service was fine. We ordered takeout (thanks COVID19), and everything was ready when we arrived. The food was very good. The Cumin Lamb was excellent. The Salt & Pepper Shrimp was very good as well. We got the dumplings, but with take out, the dumplings should be stored in 2 containers when you order the large size. All the dumplings were stuck together, and rip apart when separating them. So delicious! You get kimchi and peanuts to start, but don't let that dissuade you from ordering the scallion pancakes for a starter. Thought it was fast food when I lived nearby & now regretting not ordering earlier....I got the 扣肉梅菜 minced pork with preserved vegetables, which you HAVE to eat with the 葱油饼 scallion pancake. Please do it, it will be the best decision you've ever made. I also got the 家常豆腐 home style tofu. Everything was delicious and authentic. It was also very oily which is normal for food of this style. This is definitely authentic Chinese; which oddly enough has not been in the area since Uncle John's No. 1. Upon arrival I was served "Kim Chee" (obviously not the same name since Kim Chee is Korean but bear with me), roasted peanut and tea. Great start. Menu full of options. So make sure you look at the whole thing front and back before ordering. You don't have to order a lot to be full. But if you are interested in eating, don't be shy! I even ordered a bowl of "Kim Chee" to go because it was so good. THE FOOD IS DELICIOUS!!! Each dish has its own flavor and brought something special to the entire meal. It was not easy to find an authentic Chinese restaurant in Buffalo. I was very happy that Yelp directed me to China Taste. To be more accurate, it's the taste of northeastern, where my dad was from. I am happy that I brought him here. The night before we had Chinese food at a Chinese restaurant owned and operated by Chinese looking people who do not speak Chinese at all. We could hard finish 50% of what we ordered. Today, for three people, we ordered three dishes and a big bowl of soup. We almost finished every thing!!! I liked the chicken mushroom soup best, not too much liquid though, typically how this dish is prepared. But all other dishes were great too. The owner humbly asked for our feedback. I just wish he continues to have great business! We drive one extra hour to China Taste as menus and photos of all other Chinese restaurants in Buffalo were not comparable.
