Lo mein noodles, dumplings, egg roll, cheese wontons

Nope, this ain't it!! I am from Massachusetts where the Chinese food is great. I hate to say it, but this is some of the worst Chinese food I've ever had. Not sure if there's just a different standard in the South or if the buffet had anything to do with it? All of the food I tried tasted "manufactured" for lack of a better term. Like it was made in a machine instead of a kitchen. One of my favorite items up North are crab rangoons, and here they call them cheese wontons (I nearly fainted haha)! Anyways, they tasted just as flat as they looked and almost like they were uncooked in comparison to the fried & fluffy ones I'm used to. The dumplings and vegetable lo mien noodles were OK but the vegetables were missing. Just like the "pork fried rice" was just rice. Not to mention they also did not have the sauce we are used to (duck sauce!). Oh well, we will continue the hunt for decent Chinese food in the South...

The aroma of the food lured me to China Town while I was getting errands done in Summerville. Haven't had Chinese buffet in a while, so was excited go try this restaurant for the 1st time. It lunchtime on a week of a holiday. They were semi busy, but not too bad. Was seated immediately, along with my drink order. The buffet had a plethora of choices typically on a Chinese buffet. They kept replenishing items on the buffet at a decent pace. Everything was clean and decorated well. I would v9sit again if I'm craving Chinese and on that side of town.

China Town Review | Summerville, Sc 1206 N Main St Summerville, Sc 29483 China Town Chinese Buffet - Summerville, SC 3.5 out of 5 stars Walking into China Town, the first impression was solid. The staff was very friendly and attentive, and the restaurant itself was clean with inviting décor. No sticky floors, no mystery smells--points awarded there. Now... let's talk buffet reality. The food selection was noticeably smaller than what you'd expect from a Chinese buffet. Missing staples like General Tso's Chicken and coconut shrimp is borderline buffet blasphemy. I mean... who does that? Those are like the founding fathers of Chinese buffet culture. As for the food that was available--everything was cooked to absolute extinction. Any bacteria that ever thought about existing didn't stand a chance. I grabbed two pieces of fish that were so overcooked I wasn't sure whether to eat them or use them as a door stop. I chose neither. Then there's the pricing. For the selection offered, it felt overpriced, especially when you add the extra 3% credit card fee at the register. Two people, after tip, came in just shy of $50--and that's a tough pill to swallow when you're missing half the buffet hall of fame. Final Verdict Friendly staff and a clean dining room can only carry things so far. With a limited selection, overcooked food, and pricing that doesn't match the experience, this one didn't land for me. Not impressed--and not going back. The food was good. The server was back and forth making sure everything was good very well on checking my table I had sweet tea and she changed it out got me Dr. Pepper no problem. It's a very busy crowd during 12 noon lots ms families and noise. the buffet kept fresh food but it's kinda pricey I paid $52 for me And two kids.

I really didn't care for the small selection of food. The place is clean the staff are hard to get to help you. The food was just okay.

Pretty bad. Low quality, assembly line buffet. Oh Summerville, why isn't there a good Chinese restaurant in this town?

Combination plate is a lot of food and I made a couple meals out of it. I got sweet and sour chicken with pork fried rice. I really like their rice which had little chunks of pork and peas and carrots. The chicken was good but I was expecting chunks of pineapple and carrots which most places add. Chicken had good flavor and they give you lots of sauce for dipping. Egg roll was large and full of flavor. For the price it's a really good deal and yummy. We also got beef and broccoli. Neat was tender and broccoli has some crunch to it.

That said when I came into the store it wasn't so pleasant with water all over the broken tile floor, the minimalist décor and seating options. It's like the tables are just there to let people sit while waiting for their food. That said, the cashier/owner was extremely friendly and quick to greet me. This visit, I decided not to indulge in any appetizers rather focusing on main course. Just to note it up front the food is extremely well priced with many dishes like fried rice having options for amounts. I rather liked that as it gave me a chance to sample a lot of food without having to get dinner portions. The review I'll start with the pork fried rice. I'm not sure why, but there was a musty smell to it, like it picked up a funk in the fridge (most fried rice is cooked the day before and held in a fridge over night to allow crystal formation leading to a more absorbent rice the next day). The rice was cooked perfectly however I would have preferred a little more egg and small veggies like peas in it. The pork was salty perfection and almost unctuous to the mouth. It was a decent dish but not stellar. The beef and broccoli lost me. The beef had little flavor and extremely chewy, perhaps by not adding baking soda to tenderize the meat. The broccoli was extremely stiff and could have used a little more cooking time all while the sauce wasn't very flavorful. I was so looking forward to this dish too. Next up was the Lo Mein. I wish restaurants would be more consistent as these noodles weren't plump round but almost ramen and slender like. While this may sound trivial the shape of food makes a different in flavor. For instance, elbow macaroni doesn't taste like spaghetti even though they're the same ingredients. That's because it hits the taste buds differently and tricks our minds into thinking it's a flavor rather than texture. Finally, and I noticed this off the bat, is great Chinese restaurants have a slight smoky flavor to Lo Mein and fried rice among some other dishes. This is subtle yet can really elevate the dish and it comes from a wok that's been seasoned for years. I know I'm nitpicking here but these things really make a difference. Overall, the dish was average but enough shrimp were in it to make it cost feasible and lots of cabbage and carrots. The final dish was the Mei Fun which I absolutely loved as it was very close to traditional. Thin rice noodles like vermicelli are cooking without any kind of sauce to note while plenty of onions, carrots and eggs along with the meat are present. I'm still not sure why they skipped the green onion tops and bean sprouts as that's almost the star of the dish. Still, the dish was cooked perfectly and I enjoyed it. Overall, China City is an above average Chinese restaurant with traditional fair. While all the food doesn't hit the bullseye, it's not that far off, just personal knit picking on my part. Well, besides the chewy beef and musty rice. The people are nice and while I think the inside of the restaurant needs some TLC, if they're business is 90% delivery then it's a moot point. The food is the star and it's not bad. Give it a try if you have that itch!

Woof. The food here is not only terrible but seems unfit for consumption. And it takes a lot for me…read moreto say that because I will eat (*try*) just about anything...but not this. My husband and I ordered take out. The first sign something was off, was the box our order came in: a flour tortilla wrap box. WTF?? Everything we ordered tasted like fake food. Like it came out of a machine or factory or somewhere untouched by humans. When we threw the food out, it left a weird slimy-looking dark residue on the inside of all the styrofoam boxes that would not rinse off. I've never seen anything like this. Needless to say, we were very turned off by the whole experience and I can say with certainty that we will not be back. Can't say I would recommend :(

I tried Pagoda on the recommendation of a friend who grew up going to Pagoda in the 80s and 90s…read more The online menu looked good, and I was happy to see Cantonese boneless chicken on it, which is a dish I rarely see these days. I called in a takeout order on a Friday evening and the food was ready quickly and the staff was friendly. There is no dine in service, which was not a problem. The food was... not good. The egg drop soup was a good color, nice and dark yellow, but quite runny and just pretty bland. The pork egg foo young was fine, had lots of pork in it, but again, was bland. The sauce that usually comes with egg foo young should be a darker, glossy brown, but the sauce that came with this was a thick, colorless, flavorless breakfast looking gravy that was awful. The Cantonese boneless chicken was terrible as well, and for some reason was drowning in the bland, colorless gravy as well. The Pagoda fried rice hardly had any meat in it, and I understood this to be their house fried rice, which should have had several types of meat included. Even the egg rolls were bland. I definitely will not be returning, and the search for a new regular Chinese takeout spot continues...
