Dumpling Hour is every Tuesday through Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The menu features $10 dumpling plates, $10 specialty cocktails (and mocktails), and $6 Sapporo draft beers, We had the Xo Wonton (yum), Crab Rangoon (can't go wrong with crab and cheese amirite?), and the Ribeye Chaoshou (also yum) dumplings. And I wanted to try the Young Chow Fried Rice and the Sweet & Sour Glazed Wings...all phenomenal. All of this was plenty to share among three people for happy hour fun. And what's happy hour without the cocktails? I had the Chinese Awakening (strong but great) and the Golden Phoenix (which was purple and not gold, but still good). Perfect spot for a special occasion. We went for valentines dinner. The flounder was amazing- tempura fried with two delicious sauces. The green beans and steak dumplings were my favorite part of the meal. The Dan Dan noodles were good and VERY spicy. My husband liked the pork belly boa. We both enjoyed the cocktails. Our waitress let us know that we can put our full order in at the beginning and she'd space it out. I personally love the dark atmosphere with green and jade accents. First time at XO Brasserie and it was such a great experience. The space is beautiful inside, we were sat immediately, and everyone was incredibly friendly and welcoming from the start. I always love this spot as it's close to home and very unique to Charleston. This wasn't my best experience though. Upon arrival we were seated and given water but it took about 10-15 minutes to be greeted by our server. You could tell they were understaffed and super busy which is totally okay and he was super apologetic. He got our cocktail orders in and started to explain the menu to my grandma who hadn't been before- very nice and standard procedure but our notes on the reservation stated she couldn't speak or eat anything other than soup. Again, we don't expect places to bend over backwards for this but it should be acknowledged. They did accommodate her and she had a broth served to her since the soup on the menu was going to be too spicy for her. We ordered our usual suspects as well as the Dan Dan noodles to try. He warned us they were super spicy but we thought we could handle it. If you want to leave crying, snot coming out of your nose and mouth burning order these. They warned us so that's totally on us but holy sh*t they were so spicy. Not my favorite experience here. I felt the manager probably should've touched the table at least once, and again we aren't ViPs but those extra gestures go the long way. I originally stopped in to try their new happy hour featuring the bao burgers, only to learn that it was canceled... for the rest of the year. While I was bummed I decided to stay at the bar where I ordered the gin sesame cocktail, build your own bao and wine. I love gin and matcha so I was excited to try this popular cocktail. For me, the sesame overpowered the drink and I wasn't a big fan of the flavor and this is why I switched to wine. Don't let that deter you from trying it as it was an interesting drink I'm sure you'll enjoy! You can never go wrong with the bao buns and highly recommend. Excellent meal and service start to finish! Our waiter, Connor was great as were all the other staff we encountered. When we needed an accommodation they wouldn't normally be able to do he was so nice to ask the manager and they were able to offer a great option. Parking is super easy in the deck behind the building and they validate 2 hours. We enjoyed their restaurant week menu. The yoo zoo soda mocktail was nicely balanced. The wonton and crab Rangoon were favorite apps of the 4 we tried. The chicken and steak chow fun were favorite entrees. The fried rice was also excellent as were the green beans. I wish I had a picture but they were so good I didn't get a chance to take any! The cocktails: Chinese Awakening is like an upscale citrusy tea, so delicious. Date night just got elevated at XO Brasserie with upscale Cantonese and Sichuan inspired cuisine! It was the first time I've tasted food out here that reminded me of the dishes I grew up with. This is my first time here in this restaurant that has been opened about a year and four months. No complaints on the service or the ambiance. Really nice atmosphere and our bartender/server was great. I'm a little on the fence with the elevated Asian fusion food, and this just may be personal preference. The presentation of all dishes was on point. I found that there were some strange combinations of flavors that I wasn't convinced belonged or complimented each other. The truffle tofu has some dry flaked mushroom that tasted like nothing. And the tofu texture was very odd, like a spreadable cheese. The crab Rangoon contains provolone, which was all right I guess. The sauce with the goons was really tasty, sweet and savory. You can't really complain about super garlicky green beans and dressed in oyster sauce, but just not that novel. The dessert was the most disappointing. There was a five spice cake crumb layer on the bottom which didn't compliment the mousse at all. Still not really sure what the weird crispy thing on top of it was for because flavor it didn't provide. Overall, for the price, I wouldn't come back. We have enjoyed XO Brasserie several times now since they opened. The interior design is modern elegance, with a nice bar, ample seating, and cozy ambient lighting at night. Their menu offers Cantonese and Sichuan influenced flavors, with small plates and larger formats for sharing. Favorite small plates we have enjoyed are the the shrimp toast, silk road build a boa, and their green salad. There are usually 5 different dumplings to choose from, we've enjoyed them all. For entrees you must have the Chilean sea bass, it is so moist and perfectly flavored. The Dan Dan noodles are pretty spicy, but enjoyable. Checkout the Kung pao shrimp for some large delicious shrimp. Come here for some sophisticated Chinese cuisine, but they also have a great cocktail menu. Service was excellent, with the server engagement sustained the entire time. We appreciate having XO Brasserie as a Charleston dining option and look forward to returning. read more

We stopped in to celebrate a friend's birthday on a Tuesday night recently. Our usual double-date friends - the ones we order in excess with - so a good time was had! We made a reservation and were seated promptly when we arrived in a booth by the bar. I loved the ambience of this restaurant! It's absolutely beautiful and gives off a luxe vibe. As a table, we sampled a few of their cocktails - the mai tai passion chai, baiju blast, and the xo manhattan. My friend with the manhattan said it was fine, and I thoroughly enjoyed my mai tai passion chai! Very cool flavor combination (and it comes in a tiki-esque glass)! For our dinner, we went with the crudo, shrimp toast, xo wonton, pot sticker, lamb dumplings, steak chow fun, young chow fried rice, salt and pepper shrimp, and the chilean sea bass. It should be noted this was the perfect amount of food for the four of us, but we LOVE a full meal. The crudo was one of my favorite starters- I could have eaten the entire plate alone. The special lamb dumplings were a table favorite, as were the pot stickers. All of the entrees were phenomenal but my personal favorite was the salt and pepper shrimp. The batter was SO light and flavorful and the shrimp were larger than I expected. The citrus plum sauce was the perfect compliment to the shrimp. The sea bass was a very generous portion and it was perfectly cooked. I would honestly order everything we picked again. The time came for dessert and we decided to go all out, getting all three options. I am a sucker for egg tarts so I was thrilled to see it on their menu (and I had been stalking it for two weeks before we went, getting myself hyped up). The pastry was very flaky with a perfectly cooked custard center. The midnight snack was loved but I think the nutella mousse really was the star. We love a good tuille and the mousse itself was just impossibly light - we couldn't stop eating it. Our service was great and it really was a perfect birthday dinner date. Been wanting to try this place for a while just Time never seemed to come up to do so. I can say the restaurant is a Beautiful place and pretty comfortable. Everyone we came in contact with was very pleasant very professional very polite. Service was wonderful. Enough conversation to let you know we're here if you need us but not enough to be overwhelming or to keep you from enjoying the meal. Speaking of the meal, the food was amazing. We tried a little bit for everybody to share. Started with the snapper Crudo, really good if I nitpick maybe a little more citrus to it but delicious. We also got the shrimp toast. A nice dipping sauce tasted kinda like a citric apricot glazed but it was delicious. Toast came off as a savory French toast with a hint of sweet and a little ground shrimp and sausage based on top then griddled. We also tried the XO wontons pork shrimp steamed wontons. They were delicious also. For the entrées we ordered the Kung pow shrimp, the steak chow fun, and the mala chicken. Side of jasmine rice and a side of bok choy. This food was delicious everything had that" grilled/carbon" flavor to it that just adds an extra dimension of taste. I would say probably my favorite was the chicken. The lady had a couple of my ties and I had a Sapporo beer a perfect meal. I would definitely go back without any further prodding. However, I knew that it was much better than normal when our daughter, who does not "care for Chinese food", said she would definitely wanna come back and try other things. This is a fantastic beautiful restaurant with very good service but as a gluten free person I only recommend if you are going with other GF people as it is designed to be family style. No one else in my party was GF so I ordered a dish for myself and could not share. They have multiple GF options but it is too much food and too expensive (in my opinion) to order multiple dishes for yourself. Also there is a parking garage behind for $5/hour (they comp 2 hours). This space is beautiful. We loved the ambiance and the fact we were able to hear our party talking without shouting. If you are trying to catch up with people this is a great space to do that in. Parking was somewhat difficult to find but once in the garage there were plenty of spots and they validate the parking. Our server was great. He was patient and explained the menu well. The drink menu was not for us. Our party tried five separate drinks and none of us would order any of the drinks again. One was so medicinal in flavor that we ended up sending in back which our server was very understanding of and happy to get us a replacement without charge which we greatly appreciated. The food was okay. The burrata was the group favorite. We also got the green beans, chicken wings, dumplings, potstickers and steak chow fun. All were fine but didn't leave us wanting more. At XO Brasserie the dishes were all about the sauces. We ordered a bottle of Kamoizumi Nigori Ginjo Nama "Summer Snow, which is a coarsely almost unfiltered sake. We never had a cloudy sake but this bottle was great. We started with a special appetizer of lovely Crudo with thin slices of Tuna in a beautiful savory broth For a second dish we had the slightly unusual shaped and very sticky texture Pot Stickers. The stickers were stuffed with Chicken, pork, chives, cabbage and served with a delicious ginger tea soy. Our first main course dish was the Xinjiang Lollipops. The Lamb on the chops were cooked perfectly however, the amount of meat that was on each bone was ridiculously small, I am not sure the picture provided really shows how little meat was left on the bone. I mean the wife and I kept wondering what the heck did they do with the rest of the meat. The lamb was served in what might be the most amazing Sichuan brine sauce we ever enjoyed. There was a large amount of this wonderful sauce and it was screaming for bread for dipping. But without the bread, the only way to enjoy the sauce was to use a fork which is too difficult and slow, or sticking your face in the plate, which would have been an ugly sight. For our last dish we ordered Chilean Sea Bass. This dish had 2 nice size portions of fish served with Daily greens, which in this case was Bok Choy, in a yummy black bean garlic soy, scallion ginger, and shaved radish. If we had any issues with the dish, it was the fact that the Bok Choy was a bit on the tough side hard to cut and difficult to chew. What? Our first night in Charleston and we chose to eat Chinese? Don't let that simple moniker fool you, this is no ordinary "Orange Chicken" style restaurant. In a recent review, owner Herman Ng called XO Brasserie "a modern take on Cantonese and Sichuan fare". Some of the dishes we ate were quite familiar, some had unique twists. All were delicious. Our favorite was the Youtiao Burrata. Yes, Burrata! Served in a chili soy jalapeño sauce with a honey drizzle, this dish seemingly shouldn't work, but it's wonderful. Youtiao is a deep-fried strip of dough with just a slight sweetness. These "doughnuts" were perfect with the creamy, spicy, sweet and salty combination of the cheese and oil. We had the XO Wontons and the Siu Mai. These dumplings were much closer to what we've had at various dim sum restaurants. However, these were packed with meat. The Siu Mai in particular were at least double the size of any I've ever eaten. Both dishes were very good (and filling). The Daily Local Catch was a marinated miso-soy Chilean Sea Bass. OK, this catch may or may not have truly been local, and it reminded me far more of the dish from Nobu than of anything traditionally Chinese. All that said, it was delicious. I'd order it again in a heartbeat. The service and drinks were also exceptional. The place has an open, clean, modern aesthetic I don't believe tourists have found this place yet but I predict that will soon change. I highly recommend XO Brasserie. read more

I visited Xo Brasserie about a week after they opened, but it felt like they'd been open for years. We had an awesome meal at Xo Brasserie. The restaurant itself is gorgeous with plenty of little details that lean into the modern Chinese/Asian theme. I especially loved the chopstick holders! Our server was patient and happy to take us through the menu. She was super attentive even though every table was full. We ordered two cocktails and they were both delicious. Mine was the Chinese awakening which was a tea and lychee martini of sorts. Well balanced and tasty! We ordered the shrimp toast and wings to start. Both were hot and fresh, and the wings came in a great portion. The server told us the salt and pepper shrimp was pretty spicy....... No spice detected. But I imagine there might be someone who disagrees with us from the Midwest or something. I didn't get a photo, but we also got green beans which were perfect and reminded me of the wok green beans I've had in Chinese restaurants since I was a kid! We actually saw them accidentally give the table next to us our green beans (even though they hadn't ordered any and were confused), but a fresh new portion was delivered to us ASAP. We had a delish dinner experience at XO Brasserie! This asian resto looks very chic inside and not your typical asian place decor. We came on Sunday evening and this place quite busy for Sunday night. I recommend to make reservation for dinner. We had a knowledgeable server, Tom, and very attentive to our table! We started our dinner with hamachi crudo and in house pot stickers most ordered appetizer here, and I can say that they were so good! The flavor was party in my mouth! We ordered mapo tofu and I loved the sauce that contains mince pork, sichuan chili oil, sesame, and scallions. It has good flavor and kick to it and I can eat this meal all day! Pair it with white rice and you are good to go! Hands down the best mapo tofu and so different with your regular mapo tofu! My husband ordered XO Lobster and the they already took the meat out, fried breaded the meat and it came with sauteed mustard greens and xo sauce! So so good! Such a beautiful interior! I came here while visiting a friend with her and her boyfriend on a Friday night and we had a really wonderful time. We had heavy snacks before coming for dinner so we didn't order too much! We had a drink at the bar before we were seated and really enjoyed those, the rum chai drink was the group favorite.
