I love this Chinese food place. There's actually one slighter closer but it's worth the drive. Chinese Takeout often gets the short end of the stick on Yelp. Most are - on average - 3-3.5 stars at best. People get turned off sometimes by the aura of the place. Others probably had a bad delivery experience. Neither of those situations really impacted me. For the longest while, I've been trying to find a Chinese takeout place that was good and also had one of my favorite items: General Tso's Tofu. There are about 3 different Chinese takeout places (excluding Shu House - which I love, but serves a very different purpose and taste bud) near me and only one of them explicitly stated General Tso's Tofu was on the menu. Sadly, it wasn't as good as I thought. China Wok has it on their menu (huge shoutout to a previous reviewer for stating it), even though it's not explicitly labeled on the menu (Fix that and I'll rate you 5 stars!). Luckily, I called in for it and it was ready in 10-15 mins. The food itself was amazing. It has the maroon red color which is what I was looking for. Nice and spicy, with a sweet-ish aftertaste. Plenty of tofu too. Tofu was also nice and firm. Just a few pieces of broccoli, which was fine. There's always room for a couple of more pieces of broccoli, but minor suggestion nonetheless. The best part is the value. For $10, you effectively get 2 full dinners out of this. Or be even more economical and you can get 3 full meals - 1 dinner and 2 lunches or whatever order. I don't know how you beat that value. Highly recommend! read more

So I'll start with- it's Chinese food takeout, not a gourmet restaurant just to put things into perspective. The restaurant is conveniently located, and open late, easy to call in to make an order and quick, friendly service. The ambiance inside is honestly so homey in the sense that I can imagine Chinese relatives running this shop and that's how it would look- boxes and stuff stored where they used to seat customers because I think they're solely take out now. Food wise, we ordered fried whole wings, wonton soup, chicken lo mein , chicken with broccoli and chicken with pepper and onions. They had all this ready in 10 mins! Everything was really good, the only thing I didn't love was the chicken with peppers and onions. But I re-stir fried it with more seasonings and then served it with hit chili oil and it was loads better. So that's the benefit of take out! The chicken wings were crispy and so good with some hot sauce that they offer. The wonton soup was savory and not watery. The lo mein was how you would expect it to be. Chicken and broccoli was solid, and chicken with peppers and onions was a little heavy on the sauce with little flavor. But again I just recooked it with more seasonings and added hot chili oil and ate it all up. All that food came out to be like $43 and lasted us like 3-4 days. So that's a pretty good deal! This place is hit or miss I used to love their shimp fried rice but the last few times I've gotten it something was off the shimp wasnt fully cooked(lack of color) and it looked like they just threw them in the box after cooking the rice. Today was our second time ordering from China Wok since moving into the area. First experience was pretty mediocre. Our first order: We had the Kung Pao Chicken and the General Tso's Chicken. We also ordered a side of pork fried rice. Not horrible, and their Kung Pao does not skimp out on the peanut to meat ratio which is very important texture and flavor wise. Overall, the first time we ever ordered and ate from here was definitely better than our second time experience. For our second order: We had Cold Sesame Noodles, Wings with Garlic Sauce, Vegetable Low Mein, Dragon & Phoenix w/ white rice, Crab Rangoon. We wanted to have a much larger outlook on what their menu entails, which is why we ordered so much more this time around. Everything seemed to fall flat. This dinner mostly consisted of Fried foods which were generally soggy and chewy. We understand we had to wait 45 minutes for our food delivery, but we have ordered fried food in other delivery restaurants and the food sustained its crunch and flavor without falling into that depressing soggy/chewy texture. Love this place! This is our favorite spot in the area for Chinese takeout. Obsessed with their scallion pancakes! I get scallion pancakes at every Chinese restaurant that offers it, but this place makes them the best! Thick pancakes, fried to perfection, crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, filled with scallions! Smells amazing! We also order the boneless spare ribs, curry chicken and sweet and sour chicken often. Their sweet and sour chicken is not greasy at all! We have ordered sweet and sour chicken from a place down the street and the nuggets were soaked with grease, it made us sick. Giving 4 stars instead of 5 because I felt their orange chicken tasted a little artificial. Otherwise, everything else is great! The next building over from where I received a good Tui Na massage, I saw the sign for "China Wok", and felt it was time for a light lunch before heading back to the office. It is right next door to a bagel joint that was once called "Bagel Express," but is called something else now. The store was simple, with only four booths and about eight tables spread around. The menu had the usual Chinese/American suspects (General Tso, etc.), and clearly did more take away business than dining in. Still, they were friendly and treated me well throughout my time there. I choose the Orange Chicken, Fried Rice and Egg Roll @ $7. They did not seem to mind that I drank the bottle of water from the spa given me when I departed. They delivered my lunch on a plate, which always is a plus compared to those joints that just given you the take out container and a plastic fork and basically tell you not to bother staying there next time. The quantity was above average, and the overall taste/satisfaction was decent, if not memorable. The sauce was somewhat lacking flavor, giving an impression that they use it for several dishes, and alter it depending on what is ordered. The chicken was tender, but not juicy. Freezer life does that. Their Egg Roll was better than expected, although small in stature. Fried Rice was brown from the beef broth used to cook it earlier in the day, but it had a fair amount of pork, peas and other veggies. The air conditioning was sorely taxed on this hot day. No better or worse than any other Chinois house that plies its trade in the take out wars of Central Jersey. read more

I came here just recently because this has been a solid Chinese restaurant for me. The last time I came, I ordered the General Tso's chicken, which was really good! My friend usually comes here for that, and their boneless ribs, which is also pretty good. This time, I decided to switch things up and try something different, so I went for the shrimp with Lobster sauce. Do yourselves a favor, and don't order it. Ever. For starters, the sauce didn't look all that appealing. That was the first strike, but I decided that I'd still give it a try. There were about 5 total pieces of shrimp. To top it off, the sauce lacked flavor, and there were some strange chicken bits in it that tasted weird. No amount of seasoning that I tried to put on it could save this dish. So, long story short, you're probably safe sticking to the classics. I'd come here again, but probably won't deviate from my usual. The lady who took our order was very amicable and nice. I've been eating here for 4 years now and It's finally time to write a review. I first discovered China Wok when I was new to the neighborhood back in 2012 and Superstorm Sandy made her way to the area. China Wok was the only place open in the vicinity that was serving food. Amazing! Ok they are not modern. No online ordering. No website. Your basic generic paper menus. But once you put their phone number in your phone in speed dial, who needs all that fancy stuff! Their food is consistent, quick, cheap, and delicious. Everyone that works there is extremely hard-working and they are super friendly. I order at least once a week and they have never taken more than 20 minutes to have the food ready and they have never messed up an order. If I could recommend anything it would be their boneless spare ribs, Broccoli sauteed in brown sauce, and homemade steamed dumplings. Very good! Compared to the rest of the American Chinese restaurants in the area this is definitely be best in my opinion. Give it a try! read more
