Kendall Park, NJ - the unassuming location of this restaurant in the corner of a strip mall belies its presentation of some of the best Chinese food I've had in NJ/NY, and in a region with no shortage of good-to-great authentic Chinese cuisine, that's saying something! When it comes to food, I never judge a burger by its bun, so thanks to Yelp for helping me find it. The sign in the window says "Asian fusion" which usually sends me running as it's often a cop-out label for bad mixed-up Asian cooking, but this is authentic y'all, meaning true-to-tradition dishes with a sometimes more contemporary application of ingredients or flavors. The "fusion" part must come from the fact that they have a small Taiwanese section as well as the main Szechuan/Sichuan menu, alongside a few familiar Chinese-American favorites like sesame chicken or broccoli x protein, so you can get that here too. Everything we ordered was phenomenal! Great flavors, generous portions, cooked with confidence and finesse. Compliments to the kitchen - they really know what they're doing. Not a single dish was lacking. They even put out peanuts at the start and serve fresh orange slices at the end of the meal. Very old school. We loved it all: * Salt & white pepper crispy chicken ("Taiwanese specialty") - well-battered and flavored, and perfectly crispy * Taiwanese minced pork rice * Chicken red curry - fabulous, with fresh vegetables and just the right balance of spice * Golden dish (fish) - very special dish in a salted duck egg yolk batter * Beef chow fun * Marinated crispy duck Wish I lived closer, but will definitely come back when we are in the area. Best of the best - very highly recommended!

My party of 7 arrived around 12pm on a Sunday and were seated promptly. The restaurant quickly filled up while we were dining. We ordered a number of dishes to share, with my favorites being salted egg yolk fish and spicy water boiled beef. The other dishes were also quite tasty, but I would not order the Beef Chow Fun (lack of wok hei/flavor) or scallion pancakes (too oily) again.

It can be somewhat of a challenge to find good authentic Chinese food in central New Jersey however, this place is reminiscent of some of the great inexpensive Chinese restaurants in downtown New York City. I attached a copy Bill you could see it's quite reasonable. While the dumplings were so, so but the rest of the when the portions were quite generous. dishes were quite good. The portions were generous and we had enough for a second meal. If you have a hankering for authentic Chinese food, do not hesitate to head over to shu house. Recommended!!!

After a couple of friends recommended this restaurant, my husband and I decided to give it a try since we were in the mood for Chinese cuisine. Just so you know, this restaurant promotes itself as an Asian Fusion spot. Upon entering, we were captivated by the beautiful mural and hanging lanterns that created an exotic ambiance. We were quickly seated and handed menus. Two ladies served us: one handed us the menu and later delivered our entrees, while the other took our orders. Since we came during lunchtime, we noticed there was a lunch menu. Here's what we ordered: I chose the Fermented Black Bean Fish dish, which was packed with flavor and aroma from the fermented black beans. It had a perfect balance of sweet and salty, with the onions and peppers helping to tone down the strong saltiness. My husband ordered the Dry Pot with fish, which was cooked in a spicy sauce and included shiitake mushrooms, bamboo shoots, bell peppers, and a generous amount of dry chili peppers. The heat from the chilis nicely complemented the delicate fish. Both dishes featured fish that was lightly battered, quickly stir-fried, and remained tender without being overwhelmed by the other ingredients.

Just discovered Shu last week and had to go back again this week. Food is really good. Flavors and spices just made every dish really tasty. Considering we are only 15 min away, definitely one of our favorite places already.

This is a Chinese Sichuan restaurant, but we came bc we heard they had authentic Taiwanese food too! They have like 5 Taiwanese dishes...we dried 3 of them and they all slapped. They must have a Taiwanese chef or something bc these are legit. We got the Taiwanese popcorn chicken (came with basil - authentic), braised pork rice, and pumpkin rice noodle. Actually the pumpkin rice noodle was not exactly as I've had it before but it's still delicious. Service was great, super friendly and she knew exactly when we needed the bill bc she was paying attention to the patrons. The meal even came with free oranges, I haven't had a Chinese restaurant serve me fresh fruits after a meal in so long, they used to do it all the time! We'll definitely be back to try their other dishes.

    Cumin Lamb Fresh Hand-Ripped Noodles

We mostly ordered from the Taiwanese section of the menu, but I can never resist cumin-lamb-anything, so we also got the hand ripped noodles (which tbh did not seem hand ripped (no rough edges), but they were tasty nonetheless!). We also tried the popcorn chicken (salt & pepper), the spicy wonton, scallion pancake, and one of the stir fry entrees. All were well prepared, and nicely flavored (especially the popcorn chicken - a properly seasoned version is rare to find in the U.S.). Portion sizes were very generous for the price. 3-4 dishes for 4 people would be plenty of food, here. They are very busy on a weekday afternoon for good reason! Will definitely return.

I am bumping my rating up to a 5 star review! First time I had Shu House it was delivered via DoorDash. Today, I decided to eat in person. First thing I appreciated was the complimentary nuts placed in front of me upon arriving. I was also offered hot tea which I declined since it was 84 degrees outside but I thought it was a nice touch. I decided to order Hot & Sour Soup which was savory, thick, warm & absolutely delectable! Perfect way to start lunch and really hit the spot. For my entree, I ordered Kung Pao Chicken with came with peanuts, celery & peppers. It was absolutely delicious & a quire generous portion with very flavorful sauce! I washed it all down with an ice cold Coke. Well-deserved five stars!

Their dishes are very delicious, and the prices are very reasonable. I highly recommend this place! Their string bean dish is one of the best I ever have. The ginger and scallion fish, shrimps are also wonderful. Kung Po chicken is also my favorite.

A new favorite restaurant to add to my list! Taiwanese specials. Lots of spicy options! The salt and pepper. Chicken was lightly battered and fried to a crispy perfection. Dan Dan noodles are so simple but just so full of flavor. Authentic and so very reasonably priced! Look forward to trying many more dishes here.

We were given an iPad and ordered the following: Preserved eggs mixed with tofu - Hubs and Daughter loved this a lot, especially the century eggs. She said that she wished that the bowl was bigger. She was fighting us for it. LOL Grilled Stripe bass (2 lb) with Spicy tofu pudding flavor, luncheon meat, golden combination, black fungus, beancurd stick, mini sausage, instant noodles. Hubs said that he would've preferred the buffalo fish because he thought it tasted better. But, it was too many bones for Daughter and I, so he got the stripe bass instead. This was delicious! It was nice and spicy but not too spicy. Just the right amount. We also ordered white rice, but we only got a bowl and was hoping for more. They were generous with the instant noodle, though. It came in a small casserole pot. Hubs love this place. He loves the presentation of the fish with sides surrounding it in a big rectangular heated platter. There's this big wall of video going on with karaoke for those who are interested in singing. There was only one other table dining when we were there, so no one was singing during that time. Service was what you'd expect at a Chinese restaurant, quick and efficient. Will definitely to try other fish entrees when we get a chance!

The hostess saw this and asked if we moved the table and told us not to do that... After we told her why we moved the table she said no don't do that. Odd... but ok. We got the pork sticky rice shumai, pork in garlic sauce over rice, sautéed string beans and pepper corn chicken. Shumai was ok. The pork in garlic sauce had way too much sauce and was a tad sweet for our liking; it was drowning in sauce. The strings and pepper corn chicken were very good. Both had a slight touch of heat. I wish we ordered differently but overall the food was ok. Our server was very nice and attentive. We're debating coming back to try more of the menu but with so many Asian/Chinese restaurants to try in Edison, I think we'd try someplace else.

The ma la dry hotpot was just so-so - had better flavor, this was just spicy. The shredded potato was so-so, not much favor compared to the Hot Fish version and not really sour or spicy of note. The 1/4 salt baked chicken was quite good, though. Sizzling Jelly in stone pot was not bad, either, a good balance. I also liked the peppery chicken wings. It's $1 for the sauce/seasoning, $4.95 for each meat and $3.95 for each vegetable or starch. As you can imagine this adds up quickly. I ordered the ginger and scallion with beef brisket, pork belly, prince mushrooms, corn, sugar snap peas, and udon noodles. There were a lot of issues with my dish in particular. I ordered mild but my dish was very spicy. I can handle spice but I feel bad if anyone orders this who can't. I'll include a picture with the amount of Szechuan peppers in this dish. The menu says pork belly but what they actually mean is thinly sliced pork which is not the same. Additionally the menu indicated corn so I was under the impression I would get loose corn not corn on the cob. Otherwise, we probably only waited about 5 minutes for our food and all the wait staff was very attentive. My husband loved his dish though so we have very opposite opinions lol. I will be coming back because my husband still loved it here and I want to give the hot pot a try.

But with that said, my girl wanted some Indo Chinese.... so we made the trip here to see whether it's worth a second visit. Now, to be clear: the Rose is a Pan Asian Cuisine. So it's not necessarily just Indo Chinese, but it also encompasses flavors from all the other countries too. We ended up ordering 3 items in the following order: 1a: Gobi Manchurian 1b: Smoked Vegetable Sizzler 2: Mushroom Sautéed in Ginger Garlic We ordered the first two together and those arrived relatively quickly. The Gobi Manchurian was the better of the two, but I wonder if it was a bit too overpowered with spice and less of the sweet and sour taste (or even the soy sauce). The spice was a bit too overbearing. The sizzler was fine, but it was mostly onions and peppers. The tofu - while cooked fine - surprised me because it was like the silky ma po tofu (which coincidentally is what they serve here). In other words, the same tofu is repeated across multiple meals. I think the tofu needed to be pan fried at least for a sizzler. Because of the above, we didn't feel full and thought that the mushroom would provide a different taste pallet. Unfortunately, that was a miss as the mushroom had the same taste as the gobi manchurian, when it should've been infused with the ginger garlic. Additionally, the mushroom was way too overcooked so you couldn't even taste them either. It was like a crunchy mushroom. No good. To make things worse, the waiter, who also manned the front desk, seemed a bit too aloof at times. Often that meant not refilling water unless prompted and not providing the check on time or not even setting up the tables properly with silverware. It was a bit disappointing. This place has the potential, especially with the cute decor. But failed execution with the food and some lackluster service do not make this a place I'd recommend in the future.
