I came here begrudgingly. The photos of the place don't exactly scream good food and fun. But call me surprised! It looks like fast food but certainly doesn't taste like fast food. This hole-in-the-wall is hiding some seriously great food at a reasonable price! I had the Singapore Mai Fun! Heavy on the meats and veggies. Lots of shrimp that weren't cooked to a rubbery tasteless death. Imagine that! An easy 10 out of 10! Kind and helpful employees who know their regulars. Most just order take out. We decided to dine in. Quiet and comfortable. Lots of booths but there's a few tables that could accommodate a larger group. Clean and utilitarian; so no decor, fancy or otherwise. But the restrooms were spotless with hand soap that's actually nice! I think we just replaced our favorite casual Chinese dining spot. The ambience and décor may be lacking, but the folks at China Wok are not here to make an Instagram-worthy restaurant, they are here to make delicious food and that's just what they do. On my recent visit, I saw that the majority of people took their orders to go (in fact, my wife and I were the only ones who dined in). We had both the beef and broccoli and the kung pow chicken and each took home leftovers. The portion sizes were very generous. The last time I saw prices this great for Chinese food was in 2019. I stopped in and grabbed the lunch combo of chicken and vegetables with an egg roll for eight bucks but the regular entrees are eight bucks as well. You order from the counter and can either take it to go or sit at one of the tables and eat. I love the portion size and the food was pretty good. There's no atmosphere but it's a perfect spot for a quickie lunch or take out. read more

Every time I order a meal, I feel like I'm walking out with a 5-pound bag. The portions are generous, even in the world of inflation/shrinkflation in which we live. I came and got an order of sesame chicken and was able to split the chicken, rice between two plates for my sons with a spring roll and cheese wonton for each. I've only been here once. I came in around lunch time for a quick bite. The pon pon chicken and ham fried rice were ok. The sauce was good but the chicken was a bit soggy. I ate less than a minute from the time I received the food. I just think it needed more time in the fryer. The fried rice was just your average ham fried variety. Everything was very affordable. Literally the worst Chinese food I have ever had. It took 2 hours to get my food. The food was cold and overcooked. They didn't put soy sauce in it. It was all grease and got food poisoning from this food. Me and my whole family. So that's how we knew it was this place. We ate it. And all of us knew it was the worst decision. This place is not bad. My wife and I come from SoCal where there's a lot of chinese restaurants, fast food or sit down places and ever since we moved here, we've been wanting to find a chinese fastfood place that will hit the spot. This place was recommended from my friend that also lived in SoCal and this place hits the spot for him. I do have to admit this place is awesome but didnt really wow me as much. Their orange chicken here is great, but its really strong and tangy, but its not overbearing, it's still good though. We do come here during their lunch specials and sometimes during the evening times when we are really craving for chinese food. Seems like the managers/owners of this place is a married younger couple, in which they have their kids chill at the restaurant during the evening times. They are pretty nice as well. Having been spoiled with the variety of options in SoCal growing up, living in Wyoming means for slim pickings. Enter SLC and it's mediocre supply, but at least it has options. In my traveling to SLC since moving here I've tried approx. 8 different Chinese food restaurants. China Wok is the winner. I have serviced this restaurant four times now and have tried four types of entrees. The sesame chicken is hands down the most flavorful, with just the right mixture of sweet and spicy. Freshness may not be the height of the experience as you can see the basket of chicken they fry sitting in a basket next to the fryer. But that's what you expect at a Chinese restaurant. The fried rice is 3 of 4 stars. Tasty and fresh, but not extremely flavorful. The price is right, especially if you get there for he lunch prices. Overall I feel this is the best Chinese one can get in SLC. I'm sure others with disagree, but there really are not a lot of places to choose from that fit the high quantity and low price margin, which is what I look read more

No. You came in here cause their lunch specials are $5 dollars and they pile their food into the containers with gracious amounts of ham fried rice and better-than-panda fashion styled Chinese food. This is why you came. I have ordered a ton from here and they always deliver promptly/quickly and their food always satisfies my fried food cravings. The best in my opinion is everything but if we're gonna talk the good stuff I personally love their sesame chicken, sweet and sour pork and chicken lo mien. Food is incredibly bland. I am from Southern California and this tasted like it was not even seasoned. I got Lo Mein and the noodles look like they have no sauce and the pork was hard and oddly sweet. I'm super disappointed, considering we spent $45. Honestly, I think China Wok mostly appeals to the hard core deal seekers out there. If all you care about is a plate of calories for a low price, you'll like it here. If you are more concerned about quality, you might want to look elsewhere. The food here has obviously been sitting under a heat lamp. If I want old, dried out food, I can go to Panda. The beef I had was chewy and almost inedible. The broccoli was very over cooked and mushy. The prices are dirt cheap, but I can get better Chinese for just a few dollars more across the street at Red Dragon. The chicken is dark meat, which I generally dislike in stir fry dishes. The fried chicken in things like orange chicken and general tso had the texture of a bad chicken nugget. I'm giving two stars because my husband swears by their noodle dishes. If you like Chinese noodles, you could give those a try. Otherwise, you can get better food in the neighborhood. read more

This place is seriously the WORST Chinese food I've ever had! My normal place, China Chefs, is closed Tuesdays so I decided to give China Wok a try. I ordered two hours ahead of time for a later delivery time and they were still 20 minutes late. The food that came was terrible - like Panda Express seems like gourmet, authentic Chinese next to them. The lo mein was SPAGHETTI noodles, with no flavor. The kung pao chicken was deep fried pieces of chicken with a few pieces of celery, a couple carrots, and some peanuts in a not at all spicy sauce (who breads and deep fries kung pao!). The fried rice came in the tiny box that steamed rice comes in (rather than the larger entree size box) and again had no flavor. Overall this seemed like food my neighbor who puts ketchup on her tacos would make and call "Chinese food." Just terrible! No idea where these positive reviews come from! read more

This is our go-to for local Chinese takeout. I love their ham fried rice and orange chicken. My husband loves the chicken lo mein. We always order steamed dumplings (8 in an order!) because they're delicious. The food is not gourmet. The food is classic greasy spoon Chinese and what's not to love!? (I will note we tried the egg foo yong once and will never do it again. Its no bueno.) They have a really simple online ordering platform that we utilize every time and I give it two thumbs up. This place looks like a hole in the wall but it's the best kept secret in all of the Beehive. They whip up the most epic fried rice and lo mein it's a party in the mouth.
