Meh it's ok. One of the cheapest lunch specials around. But the food is just on the average side. The fried rice wasn't offensive, but wasn't amazing either. Light on veg and meat, kind of dry. Pretty underwhelming. I ordered the general tso chicken, white rice and some cream cheese wontons. The chicken was very unauthentic. It seemed like it was thrown together with some fried chicken in some soy sauce, the wontons were okay, very small amount of cream cheese inside. Super cheap Americanized Chinese food that's much healthier and fresher than most American Chinese alternatives, such as ABC Chinese, Little World, and Panda Express. They have $4.55 lunch deals and $6.75 dinner deals that come with fried ham rice, soup, and an eggroll. Portions are perfect, and it's so affordable! They also have a Chinese meny if you're hoping for a more authentic option. The list is limited to one page and seems more Chinese wedding style, but it's not bad. I've tried the BBQ pork wonton soup which tasted very homemade and healthy. It reminded me of home cooking and hit the spot for this winter weather. The wontons were lacking in meat and tasted older though. Their sweet and sour chicken seems to be the thing most people here love. It's also very fresh and unique compared to most places. They batter an entire chicken filet, fry it whole, cut it into strips, and slather sauce over it, so its not like deep fried balls of chicken most places have. I prefer Pearl's way since it keeps the texture crispier and enjoy this visual presentation more. Their egg drop soup isn't flavorful but it's nice and thick with adequate starch and egg. We've been ordering from here for 11+ yrs(sometimes once a week). The dishes are having less and less meat and shrimp(even when you pay extra). Shrimp are also a lot smaller. Much smaller portions. Even the soup is less. No descriptions on the menu, so you don't know what you're ordering unless you ask. Items I have ordered for years, now are a "side item", and soup has an "extra" cost. Why don't they just raise the prices instead of all the "extra" charges? I know things are tough right now, but this started awhile ago. There are tons of other places we will be trying. Due to Covid it appears this restaurant is not allowing costumers to pick up their food inside, What they've done now is open up one of their side windows and that's the pickup window, Kinda a weird feel to it ! As I'm paying I noticed about 6 people inside none of them wearing mask, Including the person that handed me my food, No gloves either. I got the sweet and sour shrimp. And it was around $9, so more then I thought from their Yelp pictures. Considering its for one person. Anyways my main concern is the fact that many of the shrimp don't look cooked all the way. Everytime I bite into one I see a little bit of "grey" surrounded by white. Its really a hidden gem in the west Jordan area. I've been going here over the last 8 years and their food is still the same. Its pretty good. Their lunch special are always so affordable. For under $7 you can get a pretty decent meal. Also ask for the Chinese menu. It's not necessary in Chinese but you can get the more authentic dishes like the shrimp cake and tofu. I can not say how much I love eating at Pearl Express because LOVE really isn't good enough. I'm on a Keto Diet, which is about the most restrictive diet you can be on. Pearl Express is one of the few places that I can eat out, but due to Covid-19 they are only open for takeout. My favorite Dish is the Pork with Snow Peas over rice. If I knew when I was going to die, I would definitely have that as my last meal. I could even eat this every day, and never tire of it. I highly recommend Pearl Express to anyone who loves real Chinese food, as opposed to the Americanized versions. read more

This is our go to Chinese restaurant. Our usual order is Yang chow wonton soup, pot stickers, orange chicken, and fried rice. They haven't reopened dine in since COVID, so the food is not as good as it was when we ate there. The sauce on the potstickers is our favorite. We haven't really enjoyed any of the beef dishes though. read more

One of my favorite Chinese places in town. My favorite things are: Singapore rice noodles, egg rolls, and salt baked seafood. I actually once ordered 100 egg rolls to take to a summer BBQ and they were a hit! Even people who generally don't like egg rolls tend to love these. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the sweet and sour chicken. It's real breaded chicken breast that's sliced instead of the little balls. Which to me made the chicken seem dry. Wow. This has got to be one of the best places if you're craving for some Chinese food during lunch. The first thing that caught my eye was the prices. All of the lunch menu items were less than $5! After your order, the first thing you are served is some egg drop soup. It's extremely hot, but oh so good :). Of course, the next thing to come out is your entree. For 4.95, you get plenty of bang for the buck. Large portions for a not so large cost. The service is exceptional. The waitress kept on making sure we had enough water and always came by and refilled if she saw we were getting low. Definitely give this place a shot if you're ever in the area. As a previous reviewer said, getting in and out of the area can be troublesome at prime times. After the MANY times I've been here for lunch, I recommend first the Egg Foo Yung plate. I tasted it and thought it was pretty good. I'm a garlic sauce junkie; the spicy, garlicky kick always gets me. However, they only had this option with beef. They were kind enough to do Veggies and tofu in their garlic sauce. I would say the sauce was not my fave. It was salty and tasted mostly of dark soy. The veggies were definitely not present basically given tofu and bamboo shoots. I did like the service and would love to try some other options next time. I have a bit of an ammendment to my previous review I left a while ago (below). They've recently changed the prices, which is understandable, but we've noticed the quality of food and service decline at the same time. I think our final straw was when they packaged a to-go order sloppily, resulting in spilled Chinese food entirely throughout the bag, and thus our car, ruining upholstery and making our dinner no longer edible. I understand this can happen with any to-go order, but this has never been the issue with them. When I called to let them know what happened, they hung up on me. Just not the same nice neighborhood Chinese restaurant it used to be. Original review: We love this restaurant! Nothing fancy, but a great place to get awesome Chinese.
