I asked for extra spicy on my dish and it was spicy (not salty). Oh my, the sesame ball hit the spot! The owners were so friendly! Love chatting with them in Cantonese. My coworkers (non-Asian) were impressed with this place too to the point where we ended up ordering catering from them for LNY last month! CS is great, got seated and waited on immediately. Very clean, bright, acoustics are bad, but I dealt with it. Order, Egg Drop Soup-Temperature wise, nice and hot, just how I like it, lacking a whole lot of flavor, but that's Egg Drop Soup, I added some low sodium Soy Sauce, helped a little. Spring Rolls-Decent but a little greasy, taste was okay. Shrimp Fried Rice-Excellent. Plenty for to go or share. Cashew Chicken- Very Tasty, Chicken was very tender. I came across Chinatown Asian Kitchen on Facebook and decided to give it a try since it's on the West side. It's located at the end of the strip on Union Hills and 91st Ave, and the restaurant itself is a decent size. The owner, Joanne, is super friendly and clearly passionate about cooking! I ordered the Singapore Mi, Hot and Sour Soup, Chili Oil Wontons, and a Chinese Tamale (Zongzi). The Singapore Mi was very flavorful. The hot and sour soup wasn't quite sour or spicy enough for my taste, it leaned a bit sweet. Same with the chili oil wontons, they were tasty but a little too sweet and not spicy enough for me. The Chinese tamale, though, was spot on, just like the ones I've had in Hong Kong. I noticed they also offer Hainanese Chicken Rice, so I placed an order for pick-up a few days later (they require advance notice since it takes time to prepare). I was so excited on pick-up day and arrived right on time. Joanne had my order ready to go. Once I got home, I couldn't wait to dig in. The chicken was organic and deboned, the rice was well-seasoned, and the ginger scallion sauce was just right. The portion was a bit small for my son and husband but perfect for me. Very friendly and accommodating owners! I asked for dishes to be made vegan and the owners knew exactly what I was referring to, and came up with modifications almost immediately! We wanted to go to our usual spot that never fails but thought it would be great to support a new business for Christmas. We were wrong. We ordered mongolian beef, sesame chicken, general tso chicken, veggie fried rice, veggie chow mein, crab rangoons, and hot and sour soup. Everything tasted from bad to worse. The sesame chicken was all salt and didn't even taste like any sesame chicken I've ever had. Had to toss it, it was so salty it was inedible. The other 2 meats, rice, and chow mein were all just bland. We maybe ate $10 worth of the food and tossed the rest out. Staff was friendly and kind 5/5. Restaurant was clean 5/5. I don't post many reviews however I felt compelled to leave a review for this place. I ordered a large hot and sour soup with shrimp tofu and pork and a black bean chicken which came to $33 on a pickup. The taste of both of these dishes was incredibly mediocre and a total rip-off. The so-called meat in the soup was cut up into Matchstick size slivers and there were three tiny shrimp. The chicken was a total joke as it was hardly any chicken in there at all and what was in there was recognizable as chicken. The amount of meat in these two dishes was not only disappointing but a total insult to my intelligence! This by far was the worst Chinese meal I've ever had in my long life. They can't even compete with Panda Express or frozen Chinese food that you get in the supermarket. Save your money go elsewhere. These people don't have a right to call themselves a restaurant. Went to chinatown asian kitchen for the first time. Was happily surprise they offer both Chinese food and authentic Cantonese food. William was kind enough to even make a Cantonese soup that wasn't even on the menu. If u know westlake soup then u know that is part of a real Cantonese menu. We also order walnut shrimp, black bean sauce chinese, string bean, and Cantonese pan fried noodles. Needless to say, we only had a small box of leftover of the string beans. It was very aparent that Take Out has priority over dine in customers. Food was marginal, services were awful, and no one seems to care. Was not real busy with dining people in dining room. Tried this restaurant for the first time a couple nights ago and was super impressed with the food and service. Everything came out piping hot and fresh, as well as perfectly executed. We had egg drop soup, cream cheese wantons, Cantonese Chow Mein, Orange Chicken and a vegetable dish that I can't remember the name of but was a really great contrast to the rest.
