The portions are very generous! I usually have left overs for the next days. I've never had issues with my order. My order always comes correct and I'm the estimated time. Today I ordered the 16 piece sashimi combo that come with a side of miso soup. I also got a side of eel sauce because what's sushi without delicious eel sauce?!? Wanted a quick afternoon bite and I was already in the plaza so I decided to try Sakura. The first thing that I noticed was that it was a beautiful, new and modern venue. It was not busy at all, I immediately got to order my food as soon as walked in. I walked in with the intention of ordering the spicy shrimp roll from browsing through the menu on Yelp but was told they don't sell that. So I would advise they update their menu. DELIVERY REVIEW ONLY: Sakura Japan on Market delivers to Downtown in Newark. I've ordered a few times and they are consistent with both delivery service and the food. I've gotten the shrimp teriyaki, which comes with white rice and steamed vegetables, and I think it's a good deal (and tasty, too). The sushi is good, as well. You aren't getting Nobu here, instead it's like fast food sushi, but the rolls are tight and the fish fresh. Also, that spicy mayo is on point! :) The miso soup also hits the spot. I wasn't sure at first, but bubble tea can survive delivery. So if you have that craving for sugary milky goodness and chewy tapioca, you can get it delivered to you. Overall, I'm more than content with ordering from Sakura for delivery. Just order early or after the lunch rush. read more

The teriyaki here is delicious and eve portions are nice. You can get chicken, tofu, shirt or beef for $5.59 a $6.59 or combo them up to about $10.50, so not a bad deal. Great smoothies and you can mix the flavors. The place is really inviting with big windows in the front, so when you're sitting down the place is well lit without a lot of artificial light during the day. There's stool seating right near the window, a long bench along the right wall under some nice ethnic set work, and small tables that seat 4 scattered throughout the place. As soon as you walk in you can see fresh sushi being made and then the grill is right behind that to the right of the register. The one thing that I have always loved about this place is that you get to see your food, and everyone else's being prepared. For a place that doesn't wait tables, the tables are always clean the staff is really nice. As far as the food goes, the taste is spot on and filling. All the dishes come with rice or noodles and a side of veggies if you'd like, so it's very well balanced. It is teriyaki and sushi, a really simple menu, so if you're looking for more, you gotta go elsewhere. I love it, it's worth it and the smoothies are very good as well. read more

This place deserves 10 stars for their super fast delivery. We ordered online from Grub Hub, and it told us to expect an hour wait. Our door bell rang just 20 minutes later! Is this an independent sushi restaurant, or Jimmy Johns? My roommates wanted to go out for sushi, but I had the flu, and they didn't want to leave me, so they looked up sushi places that deliver. We had never heard of this place, and the fact that they had bubble tea sealed the deal. Being sick, I obviously had no desire for sushi, but bubble tea? Yes please. The best part of the bubble tea is that they let you mix flavors, which is always a plus. I got coconut-mango with tapioca pearls, and it was one of the best bubble teas I've ever had (almost as good as The Tea Garden in St. Paul, MN). Not too sweet, but exploding with flavor. I literally live right by this place so when I do go is quick and easy. The food here is nothing special really. I usually grab a bite here when theres nothing in the house mainly or I don't feel like cooking. I have to say the EMT rolls from here are actually pretty good , they are just very pricey so I don't get them very often. Other than the rolls I come here for chicken teriyaki or shrimp teriyaki which is decent just like the rest of sakura japan's i've been to in new jersey. Food is okay leaning on bad, almost grocery store quality clearly NOT quality but for the price it is okay I suppose. My issue is with service which was awful, even for Newark. I placed an online order and then when it hadn't shown up an hour and a half later I called for an update. The person who answered said "hold on" i was left on hold for aboit 4 minutes. Some guy answered and said "hello" then disappeared. I hung up the phone at 5 minutes. I called back and told the woman I was left on hold for 5 minutes and needed to know when my food would arrive as it had been over 1.5 hours already. She said "any minute now the driver already left" (yeah, I'm sure he did). Then I asked if I could have an estimate. She said 5-10 minutes.... Sakura's food isn't the best, but its portions are great and the meals are relatively cheap. You can also modify your order... you can double the meat for a dollar, change up the rice (brown, white, fried), add more vegetables (or remove them completely if veggies aren't your thing), and add more or less sauce. I usually go for the Chicken Teriyaki with double chicken. Sometimes, I'll ask for brown rice or no rice (so it's basically meat on a heaping pile of steamed veggies). I ordered chicken teriyaki with brown rice and an extra serving of chicken. The total came out to 9 bucks including tax (2 dollars because of the extra serving of chicken). What can I say, I enjoy more than my fair share of chicken. I sat down at one of the blue tables adjacent to the grill. The wait was about 10 minutes. Taste: the brown rice was cooked well. The chicken teriyaki was delicious and the cook put a judicious amount of teriyaki sauce -- enough to give the chicken its namesake flavor but not too much so that the rice wasn't soaked in the sauce. I was content with the portion and quite full because of the double chicken option. My only complaint is that the meal was a little too oily, which is typical of most restaurants that offer a quick bite. I'd definitely come here again between lectures! read more

I wasnt there more than 10 mins..I got a buzzer to let me know when my food was ready...I had the chicken teriyaki with stemmed veggies (sauce on the side) and was thanked for my patronage by polite staff. I used to love this place but the service and food quality has drastically decreased since they opened. The last time I ordered it took them an hour to deliver my food although I literally live 3 blocks away from their location. My beef teriyaki was cold and dry (Little to no teriyaki sauce) and the sushi I ordered did not taste fresh. It also looks like they are using less fish in the sushi and more fillers, i.e more rice, sauce, and tempura flakes. The driver is terrible, he did not get out of his car to deliver my food, made me walk to his car and had the nerve to demand a tip. He did not give me the correct change and drove off. I went for the first time to the new addition in east orange. Ive driven past it a million times and always said id go. Happy I made the trip last night it was worth it, I bought chicken teriyaki with noodles and a black bubble tea with tapioca pearls (my first ever). Ive seen bigger pearls balls, but they taste like gummy bears not sure what nutritional value it has but its a little different and im sure better than soda, ill do my research, welcome me to bubble tea family =].... The guy in charge tried to persuade me to buy sushi but i was not ready for that, i started with the cooked food then maybe ill warm up to the raw stuff. The portions are great, my meal fed two girls and we were both full. I would recommend this more so than the Chinese food, its great plus I didn't feel sluggish afterward! It has flavor in my opinion and not too much salt, I will be investing more time into trying the whole menu and the other flavors of bubble tea! Love this place its clean you see them prepare everything in front of you and they don't have the bullet proof glass like the Chinese food places. Don't expect it to be like amazing 5-star Japanese though, but I definitely prefer this over Chinese takeout. They fill the teriyaki boxes with a great bed of rice and then loaded all the goodies on top. Enough for 2 people. Shrimp Tempura isn't as fluffy or light as one would traditional picture but it worked for my craving. I feel like its from those tempura boxes at Sam's or somewhere. Wish it came with Mirin sauce opposed to spicy mayo. Dumplings were amazing! Crisp, delicious, also came with spicy mayo. The smoothies were also really good. The staff on the phone were incredibly friendly and the delivery were extremely quick. They told us 35 minutes but then it came in like 15-20 minutes or so. They text you too. "We're here. -Sakura" Overall, great prices, really amazing for delivery, especially in Newark. Just wish they were open a bit later sometimes. I just ordered from Uber Eats from this location because I usually frequent the East Orange location and I figured "why not?" and I have to say between the two the difference is out of this world! The Newark location definitely uses fresher ingredients because the quality of the food and the taste was amazing!!
