Anyone who knows me will tell you, I believe the best Chinese food is in Boston. So much so that EVERYTIME I come home, I must have Chinese. Growing up in Boston, I have my favorite spots to go to. However, one of my favorite spots closed down recently which led my Bestfriend to find us a new option for Chinese. In walks Chinatown Restaurant in Weymouth. Doing a search in the area, we discovered Chinatown Restaurant in Weymouth. The reviews were raving about how good the food was, so I had to go. Driving up, it's your typical carry-out. Nothing special, but it's easy to find and there is ample parking. After taking a look at the menu, I decided on the Pu Pu Platter for 1 with a Sm Lobster Sauce. I placed my preset at the window, paid, and took a seat. The location was very clean. The ambiance is very take-out suggestive and the lighting is slightly dim, but not in a romantic way... After a few minutes, my food was ready and my order was called. From the moment I took ownership of the bag I was excited. The smells that were coming out of the bag were amazing. I could literally smell my entire order and it had my mouth watering. As the Pu Pu Platter provides a variety, I will admit that EVERYTHING that comes in the platter was AMAZING (I don't eat shrimp so I can't speak on the shrimp). Beef Teriyaki - Meaty. Moist. Well flavored. Perfectly done. Perfect size. Chicken Wings - Flavorful and Perfectly Done. Nice size. Boneless Ribs - These steal the show as they are beyond amazing. Sweet and Salty, meaty with not a lot of fat. Perfect amount of sauce. These were the highlight of my plate. Chicken Fingers - Thick. Battered well. Great with the Sweet & Sour Sauce. Not hard. Egg Roll - HUGEEEEEEEEEEEE. Fresh. Flavorful and Crispy. The Lobster Sauce was good as well. It was standard for a carry out but the flavor profile was that of a quality restaurant. It was as meaty as it was saucy. All I know is that I am sold on Chinatown Restaurant in Weymouth and will be returning every time I come back home. LoL. read more

I think when you start a review with "the person who took my order was very, very nice". You know it's not going to be a really positive review. So we ordered food from Chinatown Restaurant and like I said the person who took our order was very, very nice. We got General Gau's "chicken" with an Egg Roll and Chicken Fingers. I'll start with the Chicken Fingers which were as good as I have ever had. They were awesome. That's the good now for not so good part of the review.... The egg roll had this sugary taste to it. I've eaten hundreds if not thousands of egg rolls in my lifetime and never before have I tasted an egg roll that had this sugary taste to it. Not sweet but like someone doused it with sugar before cooking it. Not a good taste sensation either. The General Gau's Chicken had dark meat which I am not a fan of. It also looked and tasted more like pork than chicken and had this funky taste to it that did not enhance it good. Thankfully it was not very spicy. The pork fried rice had lots of pork but the rice tasted very bland. It only had one slice of Mushroom and one slice of onion. No egg bits. No bean sprouts no anything that usually makes the rice taste better. It looked like it was the bottom of the barrel; which considering it was an hour before they closed it probably was. I struggled to eat about 1/8 of my meal then threw it away. We also got Lo Mein and that was also bland as heck. I gave them three stars based on how good the Chicken Fingers were and how nice the people who work there are. Summary: I'll give them the benefit of the doubt since it was an hour before they closed and try them again. I struggled to give them three stars because like I said earlier the chicken fingers were good and the people who work there were very, very nice. I would say avoid them an hour or two before closing. read more

Well, everything tasted pretty bland, the eggrolls are huge, but have an odd flavor, the wonton soup looks really good but again the wontons fell apart, and my chicken dish also had no flavor. Shockingly bad for my first to go order since arriving in Boston Definitely don't recommend this restaurant read more

Chinatown restaurant looks like a run of the mill place set in a lame strip mall. However, the food is very good, and the portions abundant and prices are very fair. The customer service is great also, always greeting you with a smile. Give this place a try and you won't be disappointed! read more

Being from Manhattan, I guess I should be a good judge of whats what in the Chinese food business. All there food was really great, the restaurant is located in a tired strip mall, but there smiles and fast service was wonderful. We will be back for sure ! Thanks again. read more

I don't know who the heck is writing these crazy comments! My name's tony. I've lived in Japan, Vietnam,Thailand and more places than most people on here can pernounce. I've moved to weymouth about four years ago.(not very welcomed by the locals(being a large black man) but they warmed up to me. Now to the point. This gem of a restaurant (Chinatown) is one of the best Chinese food take outs ive had in over a decade. Someone wrote about the general Gau chicken. I've been getting this on the regular for years. The rice is absolutely off to charts. see people come into great restaurants like this and expect their food in 5 minutes like other smaller Chinese restaurants. Not here!! They prepare your food as you order it. The boneless ribs are juicy and the crabrangoon are filled ready to burst with meat. So if you want something simply amazing, family run and not in 5 minutes. Come to this diamond of a place and get some of the best Chinese food you can get in weymouth. I apologise to the family and workers of the restaurant for the people who went out of their way to lower the standards of this great place. I've been here for over 4 years and eaten here well over 50 times. Trust me, I'm a big black man who likes great food. I've eaten at some places and told the owner or managers in their face that I was not happy with the food or service. I don't buy the food, pay and go home and hide behind a keyboard and gripe about things like this. So if the food that's bad, next time return to the place of purchase, talk to the manager and work out something. Disrespectful remarks to places that are well above the amazing level is not only rude but childish. Now! Ok, so I've only gotten food from here once within the past few years. The night before last, in fact. I rarely have the NEED for chinese food, but when I do, WHY ARE YOU JUST STANDING THERE AND NOT FEEDING ME CRAB RANGOONS DRIPPING IN DUCK SAUCE? It's pretty much like that. Like going out to breakfast, i pretty much only want wildly unhealthy things and try not to go out for either unless it's imperative to survival. I can cook healthy crap at home, thanks. But alas, I have been consistently let down by so many other Weymouth/local chinese food joints that charge too much for just meh food. I walk near here every night on the way home from work, and the smell usually drives me slightly wild, but i'm able to stay strong. Not the case this Friday night. Everything in me demanded Crab Rangoons and for some reason, chicken fried rice. I don't think I've ever ordered chicken fried rice in my life. I'm a fan of house fried, pork or shrimp fried normally, but I went with my gut - literally. My gentleman picked me up from the train, and we swung by and grabbed the ready and waiting goodness. Holy crap. Both things were so good, y'all. Not the *best* rangoons i've ever had, but seriously solid. They were fried in crack. The filling was good, and not overwhelmingly rich or heavy. Could have used more green onion or crab, but whatevs. The fried rice was freakin' awesome. The chicken was not fatty at all, and the hunks of onion here and there were happy explosions. The Mister forgot to get extra duck sauce, so we improvised. I recently canned hot pepper jelly, and kind of sucked at it - so we have jars of pretty runny jelly kicking around. We mixed that with the duck and BAM. I kind of regret figuring out how to make fried things that didn't need to taste better, taste way better, but here we are. I'm being generous. Maybe it was because we ordered on Saturday night of snowstorm Nemo. We were warned. When the manfriend called to see if they were open he was given the warning "yes, but their is a long wait". We went for it. I mean, we had to eat [crap] because we were snowed in after all. So we walked down to Chinatown to look at the menu and place an order. There were several people waiting but we were in no hurry. So maybe it was silly of my to order pad thai at a Chinese food restaurant. And yes, I am well aware there are MUCH better Thai food restos in Weymouth. Please, people. But I just love.the.stuff.so.much I couldn't resist. I went with the combo plate if it makes you feel better (crab rangoons & pork fried rice). He went with the orange beef and crab rangoons too. We went home. Waited. I sent him back solo to grab the grub. He came back in a huff declaring that he was all but ignored when trying to pick up our food. He said the crown had dwindled but it took a lot of effort to draw attention from one of the 10 people hustling (standing) around in the open kitchen. My food. Pad thai. Not good. Nothing but chicken and noodles. No sprouts, oh but wait, there were peanuts sprinkled on top. The sauce was pretty poorly done. Please refer to my above statement, "maybe it was silly of me to order pad thai at a Chinese food restaurant". The pork fried rice was OK and the rangoons were fine. Now, I am well aware that the "crab" is actually just imitation crabmeat but I'm not even sure there was actually any of that in these rangoons. But whatever, the fried part was good. Because it was FRIED! His food. Orange beef, sauce = good. Two pieces of broccoli, good. But the pork, chewy and almost crunchy from too much starch. Edible? I guess. So sorry this is an excessively long review. Like I said, maybe we can chalk it up to Nemo and Chinatown being one of the few places open in the area on a Saturday night but it will probably take another extreme situation for us to order from them again (or maybe a really drunken night?) read more

I've got take-out from here twice recently, and both times it has been very good, and the value is excellent. For years I've frequented a couple other Chinese take-out places in Weymouth, but feel they've gone down in quality. So I tried Chinatown. I agree with some of the reviews that they are not the fastest. But their fried rice both times has been very moist and fresh. I hate when you feel like you've got hard, old fried rice. The egg rolls are a bit larger than at other places. The egg foo young was excellent. Today I got sweet & sour chicken, which is the red sauce poured over chicken fingers, as most places do. I like that the fingers were not cooked so much they had hard shells. And the plate weighed a ton! I did not finish, which is rare. I don't eat Chinese take-out a lot, but when I'm craving it, I'll go here. read more

Located next to 7-11, Chinatown is a small take out place, family owned. There are a few tables here, no table service, but we usually get food for take out. Honestly this is the 2nd best in Weymouth, see my review for Peking Kitchen. Tastes fresh and good value for the money. There are a lot of choices in town for Chinese and we go here about every other month or so. The lunches are cheap and satisfying. read more

I hardly ever get Chinese food these days, but I have gotten take-out from Chinatown Restaurant in Jackson Square for years. For your standard take-out Chinese food, it's a really good value for the price. I almost always have gone easy and got either combination platters or a pupu platter, and it's never disappointed. It's not overly greasy like your typical Chinese food restaurants as well. Also, it seems like it's family owned, and both the chef and counter employees have always been extremely nice. read more

Was pretty baked last night when I decided to get a slurpee. Next door to 711 was this little place. I then decided I needed an egg roll. After being greeted by the much too quick speaking cashier, I ordered the greatest egg roll I've ever had. For once, a takeout chinese joint had a unique eggroll. The meat was seasoned to perfection. When i first ordered here, the food was delicious and they gave us alott of food (fit for the price they are charging us) .. But after ordering the next couple of times, i won't be ordering here anymore. The last time i ordered, they gave us a whole container of really dried out fried rice, chicken teriyaki was nearly burnt, and no duck sauce and no eating utensils were provided in the bag for us. They would constantly give us large portions of the appetizers EVEN WHEN I SAID ON THE PHONE I ONLY WANTED THE SMALL PORTION.....as if they gave us the large portion on purpose so that they would charge us more money. This (large instead of small---charged for large when i asked for small) incident happened twice! After all this, forget it. I don't want to order from and support a dishonest place. Not worth waiting 1 hour each time...having them deliver me overpriced foods. read more

Walked in looked at the kitchen and saw a bowl of raw red meat that looked to be boneless spare ribs on the floor of the kitchen TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE! Walked right out of there. If that's what you do in front of your customers, imagine where else in that kitchen they were going to pull the rest of my food from? I wish I had taken a picture of this. Best Chinese food I've ever had. I order from here regularly and it tastes fresh and delicious every time! Yes delivery takes a while and placing an order over the phone sometimes may be difficult but it's worth it for how fresh and yummy there food is!! Occasionally they burn the boneless spareribs or just don't give you enough of them (I almost didn't come back after one order where there were so few), but everything else is fantastic and they're even getting better about those ribs. Love it here! The food is great by far the best Chinese food in Weymouth. I drive a couple towns over here for it. Such a hardworking family business I have encountered here. They make you feel welcomed and Kathy (one of the 2 daughters) always makes great conversations when you come in. I feel as if I am apart of the family too! Best chicken wings I have had from a Chinese restaurant! First thing to know is that they make their own Crab Rangoon and they are great... Who does that anymore? I think they make their own dumplings as well. I have ordered from here 2-3 times a month for years and while I have not strayed far from my usual order, when I have It's all been good. Pork Fried Rice leaves something to be desired (could use more onion and add an egg) but the sub gum fried rice is a great substitute. Egg roll is very good and they are large. It's a family business, Husband and wife are there every day and they want to serve good food. Always greeted with a smile there. Not a place to sit and eat as a family, but it's the best Chinese takeout within 5 miles of my house and there are at least 20. If you like something done a special way just ask them, it's all cooked to order so they are very accommodating. read more
