They had good food a decade ago, but no more. The Egg Drop Soup looks and tastes like dishwater. The Hot & Sour Soup had mushrooms in it that tasted like they had gone bad. The Teriyaki Chicken was edible, but very little teriyaki taste - at one time this item was delicious. I had stopped patronizing them for a couple of years when I had found a small piece of something hard that I couldn't identify. I brought it in to them to let them know so that they could try to identify the item for themselves and make certain it didn't happen again. That was honestly my intention - I wasn't even asking for my money back. I was told that they had no way of knowing whether or not it had been in the food (true), and they refused to even take the item from me. But I had been a regular customer for years (they were always very accommodating of my special requests) and my only motive was to help them and future customers including me. Hull Jade, hmmmm. In our town there is only one game in town Gotta play the hand you're dealt. This place is like a seedy casino, which is what it looks like inside. The place is 8 x 8, it looks like it hasn't been cleaned or painted since it opened. Like a seedy casino, you go in thinking you could win and once in awhile you do. I mean little tasters of decent food. But like a casino, at Hull Jade you should be prepared to loose. The food is not good quality. The rice is like mush. Anything you get added to a dish, whether it's a vegetable, seafood or a meat is like a leftover from last week. The owners should read their own menu. Why waste time writing a menu when you are going to improvise and shove any old thing you have laying around in a dish. I'd prefer you just saying " you get what we give you and you'll like it" The only reason I keep going back is that hope for a win. Last time for me ! I ripped up the menu. We hadn't ordered take out in a while and decided to splurge. We gots apps and a couple of entrees and had it all delivered. It came quickly and it was still hot! Everything we got was delicious. Stepped out of nearby hotel for a late night meal for my ravenous teen. The beef with broccoli combo was huge. He said it was delicious. Service was fast. Worst slop ever!! The food was not edible, worst Chinese food. This place either needs a major improvement or to go out of business

Well, I'm annoyed. Here's the good: 1. Beef teriyaki- really good! 2. Vegetables in the chow mein (More to come on that) 3. Egg rolls and spring rolls The bad: 1. I googled chow mein before I ordered. Chow mein is fried noodles. We got a boat load of peppers, bean sprouts and pea pods and a tiny package of fried noodles. The veggies were good, but it was not chow mein. 2. My son is picky and wanted noodles. We got none so I called to tell them. They said, "sure, we'll make lo mein instead." They charged me full price for the box of plain noodles that were not very good. I originally had the food delivered and drove to get the lo mein. 3. The chicken wing appetizer is bad. Fatty and needs to be cooked more so the skin is crunchy. 4. The chicken fingers are good, but too much batter. 5. The egg drop soup is terrible. No flavor at all. read more

This looked good, but I should have read the reviews. Ordered 4 dinners that we assumed came with rice, 'cause they're rice dishes. They didn't. We didn't know till we got the food home. Called them and they said the dinners didn't come with rice. Rode back out and got a paper cup thing of rice to bring home--charged me $5+. Then they said I had to use cash because they couldn't use my card for less than $10, even though I paid nearly $60 for the first trip's food. Hull Jade, or as we affectionately refer to it based on another yelp reviewers recommendation - Hull Barf, is hands down my fiance and I's favorite Chinese food place. Don't be off put by our pet name, this place is the bee's knees. For example, they know that when I say I want extra duck sauce, I don't mean another little dinky cup, but a small bowl filled to the brim with sweet, sweet duck sauce that I can douse my entire meal in. Don't come here expecting anything gourmet. This is good ole fashion, MSG-laden, chinese food. You will be hungry 2 hours later, have weird dreams, and it will be 100% worth it. My personal recommendations are the peking ravioli (get two orders to avoid fights), general tso chicken, and the crab rangoons. Hull Barf is best paired with cheap beer and the latest episode of Game of Thrones. My only tiny complaint is delivery is a tad slow at times, but greatness like this takes it's sweet time. read more

Their delivery is usually very quick unless it's christmas or new year's eve, obviously. Sam, the guy who works the front, is really cool. If you are not scared off by how this place looks when you first arrive...well, I'd say you are the adventurous type for sure! Hull has 3 Chinese restaurants -2 cheap/fast food type places and one high-end place. Hull Jade is one of those store-front style Chinese places where there are no tables, just takeout. A little off-putting for some, but it's a take out joint, so that's what you get (Stay away from the other place, Lucky Star, where they have some limited booths, but the food is quite bad). If you are looking for a nice, sit-down Chinese meal, go back down the Avenue in Hull to La Dalat, which is amazing (but not cheap/fast). They deliver (which is nice, I guess) and the food is prepared quickly. Their hours, like most in Hull, are pretty limited (no late-night Chinese food for us!). Parking is a royal PITA on the street, so pop into the Riddles lot and cross the street. The food is very hit-or-miss. I've had their Peking Raviolis, which are consistently good. Sweet and Sour chicken was just meh, both times I had it. Their beef with broccoli was amazing one time, and lousy the next. For this type of "fast" Chinese food, I prefer the Cathay Center in Weymouth. It's a bit further but the quality is far better and it's a sit-down restaurant with a full bar (the folks who own it also own the Cathay Pacific in North Quincy). read more

Finally got around to trying Hull Jade after craving some Chinese food. Walked in for take out without calling and was out of there with my food in less than 10 minutes. Wonton Soup was pretty bland. Had a good amount of vegetables but wontons themselves and broth had zero flavor. Got the Vegetable Pad Thai - didn't have a ton of vegetables, was mostly noodles. Very spicy, to the point where you only taste the spice. Even if there isn't really any other Chinese in town, I'll probably skip coming here again. read more

After moving to the South Shore from the city a couple of years ago, I've been searching for a go-to Chinese good place. Nothing fancy, just the solid basics. I'm happy to have finally found it at Hull Jade. Great quality, no heavy feeling, extensive menu and good prices. The only downside so far has been the soup...not as great as the rest of the food. Greasy, chewy and overpriced. Chicken fingers are the litmus test for me. Batter does not stick and 3 pieces per 10 are refried from previous batch. Chicken is already over-cooked and dried, frying it again just kills it..besides making it greasier. I ordered food to be picked up New Year's Eve at 7:30 pm. I was told that my order would be hot when I arrived ( as I had hoped it would be ), but unfortunately the exact opposite happened. When I entered the restaurant at 7:30 sharp, I was handed my bag which didn't even feel warm to the touch. I assumed it had just been bagged so I drove off. When I got home ( 5 minutes down the road ) and opened the bag, I was totally aggravated because the food was cold to the touch. Not even WARM.... As a matter of fact, the large order of chicken fingers was SO completely over fried that we could barely bite into them. When we were able to, the chicken inside was totally dried out. I'm assuming they spent a lot of time in the oil getting crispy. My order of rice was nowhere to be found. Pretty much ruined the meal, naturally. I've been there a few times and have had other issues, but this visit was the worst. I didn't go back there with the order because I had spent 12 hours at work & I was too tired. I won't be back there anytime soon. I'd rather head over to a place in Hingham where I've had better luck in the past.... read more

Ordered vegetable chow mein tonight and got a box of vegetables with sauce. No noodles. Called to alert them of the mistake and got a "what do you want me to do about it?" Hull Jade has always been ok.. American style yes but a decent job of it. Out comes a new menu and along with it, I feel is a better product. The Egg Foo Yung the last two times is fresher and not greasy. I also noted they added new menu items including catering options. I've always enjoyed them however now more so. One thing if the owner ever looks on yelp.. American diets now enjoy pork intestines beef tendon pig ear and tripe so if you want to try it I know I'll be there :)) read more

Absolutely awful! Greasy, delivered lukewarm, and no flavor. We tried to convince our friends to Order from Ocean Kai in Hingham (doesn't look like much from the outside, but the food is great!), but they thought it would be quicker - an hour.
