A very small but efficient cemetery. It's a nice quiet location for your loved one's eternal rest. Facilities were lacking there was a large building which may have been an office or reception building at one time but it was totally vacant. The restrooms were also in poor condition. read more

Came here for Ching Ming to visit my grandpa & great grandmother along with other relatives who have passed. You would think after 15+ years of coming, I would know where my great grandmothers headstone is. Nope! They need to add location lettering or sections to make it easier. And parking is no joke. People double park and still park hella out where they make it hard for bigger SUV's and trucks to get through. There's no line indicator for car spots so cars park bumper to bumper or take up 2 spots. And some families don't leave for a whole 2 hours, they literally set up like it's a picnic at the park with umbrellas and tables. Sigh .. Considering it's a Chinese Cemetery, you would think they know our traditional by now. We like to BURN money! But it's always so hard to find a burning dumpster. And when another family is using one or almost done, we don't want to rush them because we want the money and prayer paper to burn throughly so it reaches are families. I have seen families bring their own burning tins. These past 2 years. They have removed a lot of trees and flatten out the ground for more plot. My grandpa's plot is on the upper right side (newer plot) and it's quite hard to walk there. There's a small incline ground walkway from the middle plot, it would be a good idea to add a small stairway, so it's easier for my Grandmom and other grandparents who have a difficult time walking and less dangerous. Even tho, all these 'negative' things I've mentioned, I still give it 5 stars because this is where my family is buried. As the annual Chinese Memorial Day (Ching Ming in Cantonese) comes and goes during March Madness, flocks of long time Chinese locals visit the various cemeteries in Daly City, Colma, and San Bruno to pay respects to their ancestors. Depending on how old fashioned the family, the visits span from simple flower offerings to a full blown ceremony with incense, food, money burning, and the like (yes, my dad gears closer to the latter). This particular cemetery is one of the larger and definitely the oldest amongst the Chinese dominant locations. My father told me that only members of the Kong Chow Benevolent Association are here which is a big deal given how large the Bay Area Chinese community is now. With limited space, younger family members look south and east for alternative resting places. This memorial day holds a special place in my heart in appreciating how my ancestors paved the road to my life journey, giving me opportunities not always available to my friends and peers. Yes, this is a bit morbid but it is also a part of Chinese American history. In our culture, these visits are more of a celebration of their lives as some families make a picnic out of it. Biggest reminder for me during these visits: a) remember who I am and b) remember the source of my humble beginnings. read more

Finally had the opportunity to re-visit my great-grandpa and so much has changed since the last time I visited about 8 years ago. It is now so beautiful and clean and definitely not as creepy looking as how it was before. The cemetery is literally off the freeway so it's easy to find. You can drive in directly through the opened gate so there's no need for you to try to find a parking outside on the street. read more

This cemetery is best described as Creepy! (as it has that run down look to it) My great grandma is buried here and I try to come out to visit her at least once a year when I head to Northern California. I never liked the way this cemetery looked (especially compared to other cemeteries that have regular maintained healthy looking lawn and a more welcoming feel to it) and always just make me a little freaked out (bet Halloween dares here would one heck of a night). Anyways, the roads in this cemetery is quite narrow and really can be a problem when you have 2 cars heading towards each other (it's like playing chicken...) and only 1 car can pass at a time. Unfortunately, my great grandma is buried on a hill and so our trek (on foot) from the bottom can be a bit of a dangerous challenge walking up to her (definitely not good for elderly to walk up the hill, really wished they had stairs and hand rails instead of all just dirt and slippery rocks). The hill she is buried on is pretty much all just dirt and dead grass. The people who own this cemetery owns another one out in Colma (http://www.yelp.com/biz/...) which is smaller than this place, but actually has a better well kept maintenance of the grass. It is also nice that all of the land is flat so no one has to risk breaking their neck to visit their loved one (my grandparents are now buried at this other cemetery). read more

chinese cemetery is located in the general area of hickey blvd & junipero serra blvd. it's a generic name for many differerent groups who use this mountain for burials. my grandparents has been here for decades. the feng shui here is perfect, though it gets windy and chilly in the late afternoons. twice a year, family members bring offerings, flowers, and "hell" money for their ancestors to spent . i've been remiss in not coming for a while but began visiting them a few years ago. grandpa, you know i have been very busy. when i arrived a few years ago, you led me directly to your gravesite and i hadn't been there in decades. this time i wandered around for at least an hour without direction looking in the general area where your grave used to be located (near the faucet). to my surprise, my grandparents have moved. i only had one drink so my vision couldn't have been affected. seems the rest of the family doesn't want me to contact grandpa anymore (i was his favorite). i later asked my mom and she said basically "i know NOTHING! NOTHING!" gonna ask uncle next. so grandpa, i know you can't read english and i don't know if where you are has internet of not. anyways, give me a sign where you're at and let's met up. -kawah(my chinese name) read more

Human jawbones scattered everywhere. WTF. Today we went to bury my grandmother... Not only were human bones scattered all throughout the ground floors, but when it came time to lower my grandmother into the floor, we realized they had dug up the WRONG gravesite! They had dug up my very alive and well grandfather's spot. So so bad. Come on, these people have one job-to be groundskeepers. To make matters worse, the entire funeral party had to wait and watch while they redug the correct spot and buried the other. So upsetting!!!!! read more

FYI. The office of the Cemetery is at 34 Jason Court in San Francisco. There is no office at the Cemetery. It's inside a tiny alley way. Their offices only opens from 1pm - 4:30pm in the afternoon on weekdays. The men at the office were helpful, but not very detail. My sister in law just passed away last week and we were running up and down Chinatown just to get the correct forms to buy a plot from them. They will give you some information, but missing certain parts. Then when you come back to their office, they will tell you again, you're missing something else. We went to their offices 3 times just to get everything final But nonetheless we bought a plot from them according to my sister in law's wish. They do not take cash nor credit cards. They will only take a check. read more

It's been said many times before...it's old and the Chinese flock here twice a year to celebrate and honor those you have passed and are buried here. The parking is crazy but the attendants that are here on those holidays try to be as helpful as possible. It can be a culture shock for people seeing literal hundreds of Chinese people burning incense, making offerings and appearing to have a picnic in a cemetery. It's a way to honor your ancestors and see some old family. Pay your respects people. read more

The Chinese Cemetery is also called Lok San. I think the upkeep to this cemetery is non-existent. There is no grass just overgrown weeds. My relatives paid good money to be buried here but it brings no comfort to me when I see how dirty it is. The worse part are the restrooms. They are filthy, the toliets don't flush, the sink is clogged and there is no paper. If there is any paper, it is on the floor. I told my family I do not want to be buried here. edwin b. read more

This is a very old cemetery. There are graves that date back to the gold rush. They are few and far between because most of the dead from that era were exhumed and sent to China for reburial. The name in Chinese refers to the six founding benevolent associations that started it. If you order a Government marker for a deceased veteran from the VA, it will be shipped to the cemetery and the staff will put it into a shed because they will not be able to figure out where it goes. You will need to follow up with the VA to make sure that it was shipped and then you will need to follow up with the staff on site to locate the marker in the shed (there were a LOT of them in the shed when I went to look for my father's marker--and the shipping boxes were rotted on many of them if you want an idea how long some had been sitting there.) Once the staff knows where to put it, they are pretty quick to place the marker. read more

Excellent description of what u will go thru even when u are a native Chinese Cantonese speaker. There is no office at the cemetery so I had to drive around looking for the burial crew and burial site. John Rodriquez, the crew foreman was very helpful thru out the rest of the morning. We did not have enough people to move the casket to the burial site so he and one of his crew members pitched in. There was no place to sit but fortunately I had two carpets and 4 folding chairs in my car. We had no minister so a member of the family had to fill in. Bottom line, this is a no frills cemetery so if you need something, plan on bringing it. On the plus side, the cost was less than half of other cemeteries. read more
