Not much to write about to home. Just your typical hole in the wall Chinese place which is run by Cambodians. I know because my friend is Cambodian and was talking to them and understood them when they talked. The food wasn't but wasn't great, like I said you get what you expect which isn't a bad thing. You get a good amount for your buck. Of course the service was courteous and quick. Since there really isn't many options out in DHS for quick service Chinese food. My Green Bean + Chicken had tiny, popcorn sized dark meat and it cost me almost $9 for a bowl of it. Not only did I walk out hungry, I had to deal with four homeless panhandlers camping out by the front door. Terrible food! The sweet and sour chicken was so dry inside it was like chewing up beef jerky. The combo soup had little flavor, and the broth tasted like reconstituted chicken bouillon powder. The hot and sour soup was very spicy, but appeared to have few ingredients aside from lots of diced tofu. The broccoli in the broccoli beef was trimmed in such a way that the woody stems were included in the food. These can be peeled off if the edible inner stem is included in a dish, but that didn't happen. The mushroom chicken, fried rice, and noodles were okay, but the chicken egg rolls were like the sweet and sour chicken: so dried out they were not actually edible. I was there pretty close to closing time, and I waited about 15 or 20 minutes for my food. Maybe if I had arrived earlier the food would not have been so completely dried out, but the meal I got was so bad I would have been better off putting a match to $40 and letting it burn. I've always been a customer of this Chinese restaurant from day one they started in 2013 when the other Chinese restaurant on staterbros plaza was not performing. I see many bad reviews one here but it's probably new comers that go to panda exp. All the time and compare food from other there. I would agree that the Orange chicken has wayyyy to much breading but it's like that every where so people need to stop being so sensitive and understand that this is Chinese restaurant is a affordable one. read more

OK. So this may be considered an odd review but... My partner was subbing up in DHS and picked up Chinese Express for lunch. He brought the rest home, which I reheated for dinner. I had a full meal on the half that he couldn't eat. Pepper Chicken and Chicken and green beans with noodles. I am very discriminating about Chinese food and most restaurants in the valley are either downright terrible, or overly expensive, for Chinese. As lunch leftovers; I found the food to be really good. Not what I personally would have ordered but I will definetly give it a try myself. And I must say...it was not filled with MSG as with other restaurants (which are the ones I will never go back to). I look forward to giving them a try for dinner. Sometime soon. read more

Didn't get what I ordered in spite of telling the woman at the counter no less than 5 times that I wanted fried shrimp and sweet and sour pork. I ordered barbecue pork fried rice for my mom. What I got was shrimp fried rice for my mom, and my order was lost in space. Ended up sharing the rice with my mom. read more

A nice family owns this place and they seem very nice two sisters however there's no decorations it's not a pleasant place to hang out in they have several trays of food but never full and never much of a variety maybe two or three items mostly all the products look the same I don't suggest it but if you're in for a quick meal in and out go for it read more

First off, the whole name of this place is "TK Donuts & Chinese Express," which is kind of an odd combination. But, OK, it's not bad. It's a fairly small hole in the wall in a mini-mall. I counted five tables for four and four tables for two. It works kind of like Panda Express, where you see various food items laid out in trays on a steam table, you pick out what you want, they dish it out into Styrofoam containers, you sit down and eat it. After paying for it, of course. When first trying a new place I go with something familiar so that I can compare tastes. Thus, I chose Kung Pao Chicken and Broccoli Beef, with a half-and-half mix of noodles and fried rice. I thought the noodles were rather fat, like spaghetti, not like the kind I buy at the Asian market. They were good, though, and so was the rice. I sampled my wife's Sweet and Sour Pork and liked it - it had a nice "crunch." The Kung Pao Chicken was spicy enough, and the beef was pretty good, too. Oh - they heap the containers pretty high. The two main dish combo was enough to fill me up with no leftovers. Prices? If you want just one item with rice and/or noodles, it's $5.59; two is $6.69 and three will set you back $7.95. Sodas run from $1.49 to $1.99 with ONE refill. I drank water because I want to keep my girlish figure. So - bottom line - pretty good food at really reasonable prices with a blah atmosphere. Stopped in for a quick bite. The place is in a strip mall and is kind of a hole in a wall. The dining area is clean but could use new furniture. I ordered broccoli beef teriyaki chicken fried rice and noodles. In a word the food is average. The broccoli beef and fried rice were on the bland side. I liked the noodles. The teriyaki chicken was flavorful but kind of tough. I didn't hate the food but I didn't love it either. Don't know if I'll return. Panda Express is better and charge about the same price. read more

Just simply the best I've had in over 30 yrs! The Mongolian beef melts in your mouth and is to die for! My 15 yr old and two grandkids absolutely love the orange chicken, fried rice and chow mein and, especially, the many wonderfully sweet, different flavored shakes! Wow, this place has either gone really downhill, or it was just an off night. I came in at around 6:30 on a moderately busy Friday night, and they were out of almost everything - people were sitting and waiting for their to-go orders to be filled. I wanted orange chicken, so I had to wait until they made more and put it out. I had ordered a two item combo, and the lady working the buffet gave me about 75% rice and noodles. The remainder was not-very-fresh beef broccoli (they were just about to refill the tray, so they gave me the leftovers) and orange "chicken" that was basically fried dough balls (minus the chicken) in syrupy faux-orange sauce. Just stopped in for some take out. First impression, the place is clean but some of the food in the trays looked like it had been sitting for a while. I ordered a two item combo with fried rice, chow mein, beef and broccoli and teriyaki chicken, plus a large cherry coke (they had run out of regular coke)for only $7.75. The prices are good, the portions are big, the service is friendly, but the food wasn't great. Its not that it tasted bad, it basically didn't taste much like anything. The teriyaki chicken had the most flavor, it wasn't an overly sweet sauce, which is good. I did not try the bakery items or the other food on the menu so I don't know about those, but the fast food just didn't cut it when it came to flavor. read more

I really didn't like the Chinese fast food that they served here. I doubt that this place will be around long. When I went in at lunch time all the food looked dry and shriveled up, it was pretty gross. I went ahead and ordered a plate (I had to give it a chance) I got jalapeno chicken, rice and chowmein. The rice had the worst flavor I have ever eaten. The chicken was very chewy and full of gristle. None of the food was very warm either. I'd advise anyone to save their money and go to the place by stater bros. I can't really speak for the donut portion of the establishment, but I will not eat their Chinese food again. Chinese Express - New Chinese/doughnut shop in dhs. - Chinese Near Me - Desert Hot Springs, California

I have been coming to Chinese Express for a few years and it never changes. Get there during the week after 6pm and they basically have 3-4 entrees in the steamer to choose from. If you want others you can order it but you'll be waiting about an hour. The beef and broccoli is more broccoli than beef. If the orange chicken has been sitting for a while you'll know it by the hard to eat ends. Its suppose to be fast but I'm always waiting for something to be cooked whether its egg rolls or crab Rangoon. You can tell the Asian lady in the back is way over worked. All in all I go back because the food is so bad its good. read more

1st time around the food was ok, 2nd time around was a ripoff the orange chicken was all breading, the whole container! We even waited for them to cook it because they didnt have enough. This place is the best Chinese food in DHS! Their food is phenomenal! Not greasy!Shrimp,meats and veggies are fresh!! Their smoothies are delicious as well as they're donuts! The staff is SO nice my boyfriend and I were amazed with their hospitality.They make Little Beijing (next to stater bros) look horrible! Chinese Express is very clean, not just their food but their restaurant is well kept! I will never go any place else for Chinese food in DHS but this place. Everyone check it out! Yes! Best fast food Chinese restaurant in DHS and possibly the best Thai food in the valley. Yes! The Chinese food is fresh and delicious. I tried their chicken red curry and it is the best I have had in the valley. Yes, their red curry is better than Thai Smile in Palm Springs and Thai Palms in DHS. I highly recommend anyone to try their Thai and Vietnamese food, it is freshly made and it is delicious. This restaurant truly deserves recognition. read more
