Just finished a fantastic dinner at Chinese Gardens Restaurant. The restaurant has a cozy vibe, and our server was very welcoming. We ordered a combo plate with broccoli beef, lo mein and fried rice, the braised beef noodle soup, crispy prawns and egg flower soup. Our meals were brought out quicker than we expected & we thoroughly enjoyed them. Each dish was packed with flavor and the portions were generous. I look forward to ordering the braised beef soup again in the colder months, it really warms you up. We will definitely be back to try more of the menu items soon & would recommend this spot to anyone looking for some great Chinese food. read more

Food is decent but a bit greasy. Really like the egg rolls: light & crispy, but greasy. Served with ketchup. Almond Chicken is pretty good, really like the gravy. Lo Mein noodles were good but overall a bit too greasy. Fried rice was fine. Not my favorite place, but very friendly service! I don't write negative reviews lightly, but this experience was disappointing. My 12-year-old son and I stopped in about 15 minutes before closing after one of his athletic events at EW. The person who greeted us was immediately rude and told us we could place a to-go order but would need to wait outside in the car while it was prepared. Mind you, I was standing there with my son. At that point, whether the food is good or not becomes secondary. Basic human decency and customer service should come first. What made it even more confusing was that there was still an elderly couple inside finishing their meal, clearly not close to leaving. I'm actually writing this while waiting outside. No joy in Wheat/Cow Town for this fam. We were excited to try the re-opening of Chinese Gardens, after the nice family who cooked here left to open Chef Lu's on the South Hill. Hoping to meet a new family, we were greeted by the same folks who ran this place before the last couple. As effusive and friendly the patriarch of this crew is (God Bless him), the food is even worse this time around... It took forever to get the 'right' food we ordered--and when the whole family is there and chatting--that's not too big of a deal, but an hour and a half is a bit of a letdown to get your entrees. Some of the experience was quite laughable. Ordered Pan Fried Dumplings as an app, and 30 minutes later got steamed ones. Thankfully, when I mentioned what our order was, a couple in a booth right by us said, 'We'll take those!,' probably because they were waiting longer than we were. Agonizing minutes later, enough time for my son to run to the Middle School to grab his sister from a field trip (we did not expect her to dine with us), we got our meals... My flavorless Egg Fu Yong was so full of shredded hash browns, that they crunched. C'Mon....eggs aren't that expensive. My wife ordered shrimp & veg, and got a plate of imitation crab, bay scallops, veg, and some shrimp. She was hungry and said, screw it. I had a scallop, and I kid you not, it tasted like I had a bite of ammonia. Our gal hostess/waitress was a sweetie, and indeed, we recognized her from when she was a kid working here with the family years ago. We were not going to embarrass her any further, or create a quiet scene... Here's the crazy thing: ketchup. Pretty much every meal, and the Rangoon app, came with ketchup. Ketchup! Sadly, there are no 'kinks' to work out here because it's recently re-opened. They ran this place for years, and it's pretty much a mirror image of the past. It was full of seniors from the farms around town, and I guess they will be happier with this fare, and will help to keep these guys open. As far as our family is concerned, it's a one and done. Never judge a book by its cover! This quiet lil charm in Cheney serves up some of the best Chinese cuisine in eastern WA. My wife and I have been faithful patrons of this establishment for quite a few years and have found the owner/operators to be really nice people that treat their customers with genuine kindness. I highly recommend this family owned restaurant and encourage you to stop in and chat with them while they cook you up an amazing dish. BTW, the wonton soup is off the charts and the General's chicken will make you want to camp out and eat all night! read more

The sign outside says Chinese Garden Restaurant but once your seated and have a menu you notice they are actually Chinese, Japanese and Thai cuisines. I had been craving something spicy and wanted to give them a try, so we headed off to give them a try. It was a Monday afternoon, only a few people in the place, we were seated right away. After checking out the menu, I went with an order of crab wontons, and my mom ordered some prawns in honey walnut sauce. The prawns, though they were cooked to perfection, had too much of a fine walnut coating for me, it was a texture thing, it was kind of like eating sand with prawns, but the honey glaze was delsih! But that was just me, my mom loved them! The crab wontons were handmade and fresh, those babies were great! For my dish I ordered the spicy beef with hot garlic sauce at a level 4 heat, ive never been and wasn't sure how their hotness level was, but for me the level 4 was good, I just asked for more chili paste and I was good to go! The dish was perfect, everything cooked to perfection, before I knew it was gone, Service was great, and after being there the place started to fill up. If in the area and craving some Chinese, Japanese and Thai food, give this place a try! I know I'll be back! read more

My boyfriend, my brother-in-law and I ordered takeout from this place. I was pretty skeptical about eating the food here due to the recently bad reviews, but I tried it anyway. All I have to say is...the food isn't terrible, but it's not great either. The sweet and sour chicken was way too sweet (it tasted like it was dipped in a bucket of overly sugared syrup), but the breading was consistent. The dry fried rice helped balance out the sweetness of the chicken. The chicken teriyaki looked and tasted like it was cooked in the same sauce as the sweet and sour chicken except the chicken in that dish was rock hard like it was nuked in a microwave. The only reason I gave this place 2 Stars was because of the potstickers. I wish I had ordered more of those. Overall, if you're looking for the best Chinese food in the area, you might as well drive out to Spokane and eat at Gordy's. read more

Kinda of a cool older American Chinese restaurant vibe and, the flavor of the dishes was very good. The server was extremely nice. But everything was way, over cooked and it took almost an hour to get our 4 meals. Also totally forgot to take our drink orders all together. A full bar and better cook would make this place incredible, but right now it's slightly less than par. Went here towards the beginning of the year, it was way better than expected! It says it is Chinese but they offer much more than that, including Japanese and Thai! My girlfriend and I walked in and ordered food to-go and it only took a little over 10 minutes (granted there were only 3-4 tables being served). She got the Sweet and Sour Chicken and I got the Pad Thai, both were amazing. The amount of food we received was impressive - completely filling both to-go boxes. And for a little place like that the food was delicious. I would highly recommend the Pad Thai as I enjoyed it very much. This place was nothing like the previous reviews when we went. Gelatinous weird tasting meat for almond chicken and sweet and sour chicken, strange wide noodle for lo mein and no vegetables in anything. Paid, left all the food and I'll never go back. When I paid right after our food was served she asked if we didn't like it I told her no she said sorry and took my money no offer of refund or discount. I hate to leave a negative review, but this may be the worst restaurant food I've eaten in a decade or more. We had a friend visiting from out of town: we complained about the lack of Asian restaurants locally, and he asked why we hadn't tried this place. We admitted it was just that the outside of it didn't look inviting, but we checked Yelp and the reviews are really good. He convinced us to order several dishes takeout for dinner, to see if the reviews were accurate. Nothing we had was even a little bit good. Most of the dishes were so strangely flavored that, had I not known the name of the restaurant, I wouldn't even have been able to identify it as Chinese food. The sauce on the cashew chicken tasted like cheap packet brown gravy. The only dish we ordered that tasted halfway like it was supposed to was sweet and sour chicken, although it's hard to mess up essentially chicken nuggets in bottled sauce, and even then the chicken was dry and chewy. We ended up throwing out more than half the food, and making something else, since we were still hungry. It's possible we had an off night. But it was really such terrible food that I don't think I'd risk it again. I've never been inside, so the ambience and service might be wonderful. I hope so. Because it's hard for me to see how they could stay open otherwise. read more

The food there is beyond delicious. I absolutely love Egg Drop Soup and had been craving it for a while now. My boyfriend took me for the first time a few weeks back and it is the best egg drop soup I have ever had. I am a huge fan of chicken teriyaki and hate having to drive to Spokane to get some so I decided to try it at Chinese Gardens and I have absolutely no regrets. It is the best chicken teriyaki I have ever had, hands down. What makes it even better is the people who own the restaurant. Every time my boyfriend and I go, we are always greeted so nicely. It definitely makes you want to come back again. The woman who seats us and takes our order is so kind and always makes sure that we are taken care of. Best food in Cheney. So, there are new owners in this establishment now, and the food is great. The only complaint I have is that their egg rolls are terrible. The old owners made the most delicious egg rolls I've ever had and I miss them sorely! I do like the fact that they have lots of options for vegetarians, though. Under new management. We had always heard that there was no good Chinese food in Cheney. This place is recently under new management, so we decided to give it a try. They are new enough that they hand wrote on their drink menu that the liquor license will not be there for a month. The food was good. We got pot stickers, fried rice, and sweet & sour chicken. I brought my girl friend here for dinner last night. She is from China, a great cook, and owned a restaurant in China, so I am hesitant to take her to a Chinese restaurant. This place just recently re-opened and still looks closed from the outside. The food was very good but the waitress could use some customer service tips. We weren't offered anything to drink, not even water yet the next couple was offered hot tea and they were brought glasses of water. They weren't too busy but it wasn't slow either. My fiance and I ordered delivery. We got boiled dumplings figuring it's better than fried and they were vastly overcooked and gummy. The "secret special homemade sauce" for the dumplings was not very good either. Too much vinegar and not a well rounded flavor. My fiance got lemon chicken and I tried a bite and it tasted like medicine to me. I had broccoli chicken. I asked for broccoli and carrots only for vegetables but the guy who took the order must not have understood because I got broccoli, mushrooms, celery, green peppers, and no carrots. I like peppers and celery but not in this kind of dish. There was way too much sauce and the veggies were all overcooked and mushy. The chicken was a joke. I think I got the scraps that they feed to the dogs. It was all fatty and sinewy and chewy. I ended up eating the broccoli with the white rice and threw the rest away. What a waste of money.
