Black Straw Tea Bar & Kitchen is one of our favorite places when we're craving Chinese food. The fried rice is honestly some of the best around -- it's always flavorful and perfectly cooked. The portions are generous without being overwhelming, which makes it even more enjoyable. We also love the almond chicken and the lo-main noodles -- both are always delicious and consistently good. Another thing I really appreciate is that when we order to go, the food is always packaged well and never spills out of the containers. and I prefer the box instead of the back so that comes really handy. I had lunch and boba here for the first time today, and I'd definitely recommend it! Our server was super friendly and attentive throughout our meal. We ordered the Vegetable Delight (stir-fry), Chicken Ho Fen, and Popcorn Chicken. Everything was delicious, and there was more than enough food to feed three people. For drinks, we got the Strawberry Matcha (without the foam), Oolong Black Tea with Sea Salt Foam, and Okinawa Milk Tea. Even after choosing "less sugar," the drinks were still a bit too sweet for my taste. The boba was also a little too cold and firm, which is why I'm docking one star. Probably one of the best, if not the only place that sells great tea and boba drinks here in Spokane. I had the opportunity to order for delivery and to-go from their drinks menu and I've been really impressed with the quick service and the delicious drinks I've had here. When we walked in for to-go, the place smelled divine and it made me want to come back to try their food! The staff are very friendly and upbeat. The broccoli beef was $18 before tax. The takeout order came with a light broth egg, pea soup and rice. The egg pea soup was good, light and fragrant. The rice was somehow bland and old. The broccoli beef was disappointing in every way! As the name implies, the dish should have beef and broccoli only. This dish came with everything, mushrooms, carrots, onions, beef and broccoli. The seasoning was bland and watered down, from the extra veggies. The portion for $18 and less broccoli and beef was depressing. The bowl was the same size as my small hand. The mango green tea was fair. I wasn't asked about my sugar preference. The tea was sweet, but still good. The boba was chewy and slightly sweet, super happy it wasn't tasteless and firm. It is next level good, with the crispy texture and sweetness from the tangerine it just hits the right spots. Other item worth getting is the sweet and sour entrees, and the fried rice. Worst customer service I've seen. Ladies running cash register are clueless. Made order, showed up to pick it up at scheduled time was told they Do not have my order after waiting for an hour. Amazingly enough when I showed them my order and proved to them that I had made the order, it suddenly was found. Needless to say, I cancelled order. Ordered the beef noodles and fried shrimp for delivery for lunch. First, the shrimp isn't deveined. Nothing better than taking a big bite of shrimp feces. The soup has a very weird smell and the beef and veggies are so over cooked and tough. First time ordering and will definitely be my last. Very disappointed. The food was great but our server (Brooke) needs some training. We ordered the Almond chicken and Kung Pao chicken. My husband asked for lemon for his water and I ordered iced tea. Neither came until we asked again. She didn't check back once and the small iced tea needed a refill. My hubby ran out of water and had to drink mine. When it was time to leave we waited a long time before we could get her attention to get a to go box and our check. We would come back but prefer not to have this server. read more

I have been getting takeout from here for a very long time, tonight was my first dine-in experience. The service was great. Only complaint is that ALL the food came out really fast. I wish they would've staggered a little between the appetizers, the soup and the entrees...but we made do. My husband and I stopped here for dinner on our way to Missoula, MT and had a delicious meal! We came upon it randomly while getting gas at a nearby Costco and it was fantastic! Avoid ordering online from Black Straw. I placed a $90 food order through what appeared to be the Valley location's website, only to find out after paying that the order was actually sent to the North location. When I contacted the restaurant, they refused to refund the order, transfer it, or remake it at the Valley location. I didn't have time to drive 45 minutes across town to pick up food from a different location, so I was simply out $90 with nothing to show for it. To make matters worse, the employees I spoke with were rude and showed no interest in helping resolve the issue. If you order from Black Straw, double-check exactly which location your order is going to. My experience was frustrating, costly, and the customer service was extremely disappointing. Found ourselves in the Valley 7/4, and stopped here. We shared crispy, spicy tofu, which was delicious, just the right dry pepper spice, and sauce on the side. Plenty of veggies mixed in. My wife and I got a sparkling mango passionfruit with lychee jelly and a oolong black tea with sea salt foam. First of all the containers are soooooooo so cute and make it very easy to pack it up. The sparkling mango juice/tea(? unsure) is very strong, delicious for when you just want a sugary drink. The oolong tea is great with the foam. The flavor of the tea and the salt foam could both be a little stronger but it's a really smooth drink. I'm really pleased with my order and the price, and the staff were all nice and prompt. Came highly recommended from a nurse at St Luke's. Ordered the sesame chicken, combo fried rice and the egg drop soup. The portions here are no joke. Must have been 5lb of rice in that container we received. It was so good, great flavor, perfect to eat by itself. The sesame chicken was heavily sauced and also solid, good tang and flavor and decent quality chicken. Soup was also solid. I have been meaning to stop by here ever since i heard they have vegan options. I was dissappointed, but not with everything. Atmosphere is that of a lunch cafe, but they do have a really cool old map of Spokane on the wall. More maps would be nice. I had a rice noodle dish that was tasty with just the right amount of ginger and the veggies in that dish were cooked to perfection, although i would have preferred much less oil. I found it unusual that they did not offer chop sticks, not sure if they have them. I ordered a flavored tea that I didn't like because it was way too sweet. The waiter finally checked on me 20 minutes after I was served and i asked for a regular hot jasmine green tea. It came in a paper cup and when I asked about a real cup to drink it out of, I was told they don't have them. Another disappointment. I won't be back. We finally gave this place a try and we were impressed. The service was good, even though it looked like there was only one server and a bus person. The facility is clean and the tables and booths are spread out nicely. We started out with a cup of the egg flower soup and it had more flavor than most. We ordered the Tangerine Crispy Beef and it *was* crispy and delicious. Also the Szechuan Shrimp which had assorted veggies in a tasty sauce. IpBoth entrees came with a good portion of white steamed rice. Boba tea was good, too. We probably will split the tangerine crispy beef next time and just order an extra cup of soup as the portions are quite generous. I've been here a handful of times and almost everything I've had is good. My favorite is the Mapo Tofu, if you like little Szechuan spice it's a must grab. The hot and sour soup is good as well as the squid, it's like a chineese inspired lightly breaded calamari. Best chineese food I've had in WA so far. read more
