Having your transmission go out on you makes for a really shitty day but my dad always told me if I need anything with a transmission that this place is the only option. And, now I know why. Yeah Greg took great care of me on keeping the price down but that wasn't the reason I left happy. It was a trust thing. He was straight forward, honest, and really cared. Stay the hell away from this place!!! Took my truck in for torque converter and have a bigger trans cooler put in . Truck was there for three weeks what a slop job he put the trans back in my truck filthy and grease. didn't even put the trans cooler on it. Don't even know where to begin. I did not choose this shop. My truck was at a diesel shop for a simple repair. They screwed it up and they sent it to chino hills transmission to get it "fixed" only to make things worse. My truck doesn't even shift to park and problem that I paid $4,000 for still exist. Between this shop and mad tech diesel in Rancho, my truck was gone for over two months. Come to find out, they broke the locking clip for my throttle valve actuator and didn't even mention it. After they preformed a test run they checked the quality of the fluid and found that it was great. When I asked what I owed I was told there would be no charge as no service was done. This review is a bit overdue. Last year I brought my classic 1970 Buick Skylark Convertible in for some transmission diagnostics. My transmission was running OK, but there was little response in the performance. The transmission was rebuilt 20 years ago. I asked the guys at Chino Hills Transmission on what would be the best performance upgrade. They recommmended a fresh performance rebuild and an upgraded torque converter. The price was fair. I also asked about upgrading to a POSI (limited slip) differential. CHT found a good gear match for the rebuilt transmission and torque converter. The result was much higher performance AND better gas mileage. the best of both worlds. The staff was extremely friendly, always communicated the status of the Buick, and recommended other services at my choice (universal joints, balanced drive shift). If you have a classic or a newer model, the folks at Chino Hills Transmission should be your first choice for transmission repair and upgrades. Greg at Chino Hills Transmission has worked on my vehicles for 15 plus years. He has always done very good work. Recently I brought him my 1966 El Camino for a rebuild of my 700r-4 transmission. I was not happy with the length of time it took for the repair, nor the condition of the exterior paint from sitting outside in 90 plus degrees for several weeks. I drove the car for 5 weeks and the transmission broke, a complete break down of the gears. I towed it back to Greg's shop. A major component in the trans (rear ring gear and housing) had broken apart. Greg replaced all the expensive broken pieces and assembled the trans and got my car up and running in a couple of days. He did not charge me a dime. Even thou we could have disputed whether the break down was his responsibility under his warranty, we didn't. If you are looking for excellent transmission repair and an owner with integrity this is the place to go. If you are in need of a designated turn around time and where your vehicle is going to be stored while at the shop, then I recommend you discuss that with Greg before you start. $5,000 Lesson Learned. Upon a recommendation I took my 2018 F150 10-speed transmission in to be repaired. This was a horrible experience - they took up to 3 weeks to get it out the door, and I was told that it still made a sound but "just drive it". After 2 days and less than 50 Miles I had it towed back in. After another 2 weeks and another several thousand dollars, I picked it up again - still didn't sound right. I took it to another shop who properly diagnosed the problem, noticed mistakes that this shop made and charged me another $5,000 to rebuild the transmission properly. I could have easily bought a brand new transmission from the dealer and had the car up and running in less than 2 weeks and saved $3,000. These guys just don't know or understand modern transmissions, period. The ONLY way the work gets done is if you drop in on them and check it physically and show a sense of urgency. *** DISHONEST MECHANIC**** **HORRIBLE COMMUNICATION, INEFFICIENT, AND LONG WAIT TIMES** - I took my car to this place based on the ratings and location near my house. My car wouldn't drive over 20 mph so I had it towed to the location to have my trans looked at. I was going to look for a transmission on my own and against my better judgment listened to my fiancé who thought it would be a good idea to take it to them. - For 2 weeks I was told that my car was being "diagnosed" and that the issue could not be found by their mechanics. - After 2 weeks I was told I needed a new transmission (not really a problem for me, my car has over 230k+ miles so it was bound to happen soon) and that it would be ready to pick up in a couple days. I did not get my car back for another 2 more weeks! - The day I came to pick up my car (when I was told it would be ready) it was not ready and I was told I had to wait another 30 minutes before they were done. They ended up keeping my car another day and when I drove it home the next day, everything was fine for about 10 minutes, and then my car broke down again and started making this horrible rattling and shaking sound. - I had my car towed back to the transmission place where they said they would take a look. - Now this is the 3rd time coming to check my car and when I turn it on the rattling sound is worse and louder. - **Even another customer who was getting their car worked on recognized the sound coming from my car and said he had the same issue after they worked on his car. ** - They also charged me for another battery, which they claimed was low, but was probably because they had my car for a whole month and was draining the battery each time it was being worked on. The main guy Greg even tried to bs me and say that the battery needs to "relearn" the car since it has new oils and a new battery installed and that it takes a few miles to calibrate the idle. - My father in law came with me and we drove my car to an auto shop close by where they told us the engine was shot and we needed a new one. - Now I cant prove this obviously, but my theory is that the revved my engine too hard trying to get my car to accelerate and ended up blowing out the engine. The car was NOT making any rattling sounds when it was in my possession, the car had been in their possession for a month, and when I got it back, this rattling/ticking sound is happening and they tried to tell me that sound was always there. - Instead of being honest and saying "hey while we were working on the trans your engine took a shit" they bs'd me saying that when I take my car to Jiffy Lube for oil changes that the filter is what gets clogged and causes engine problems. Yea for high performance cars! My car is a 2005 Pontiac Vibe come on now! - What's done is done, I paid $1900 for a new transmission and will have to pay another 2 grand to fix an engine. - SAVE YOURSELF SOME MONEY AND TIME AND EITHER LOOK FOR A TRANSMISSION ON YOUR OWN OR AVOID THIS PLACE ALTOGEHER. read more

This place is one of the few remaining car places I like because they use the old school way of pricing things. These days when you bring your car just about anywhere (else) and tell them you have noisy brakes they check you in for a "break check". Which costs lets say, $60. Then they find that you need new rotors, have some leak on the rear brakes (which are designed to leak like that as they wear down), etc... Then it all adds up to $600. Not here! At Chino Hills Transmission he will tell you he will look at it. Then call you back and let you know he needs to turn the rotors, not replace them. Tell you that you need new shoes in the back, but not the entire brake set up. All in all it is going to be $180. Oh... And while they were down there they noticed your neutral safety switch was loose and they tightened that down. So now you don't have to shift from park to drive, back to park to get the darn thing started. And you didn't even mention this as a problem to them! And they didn't charge you anything for it. Yeah... These places are a dying breed so get yourself into Chino Hills Transmission before they decided to change things up! read more

I'm a first time customer.. the clutch failed on my daughter's 2016 Ford Focus. My regular mechanic honestly didn't want to touch it.. Took my 2012 Ram 1500 here after AAMCO on Riverside was unable to properly diagnose and fix my issue. It did take Chino Hills Transmission a few weeks to finally nail down what was causing the error codes. But to their credit, they did so as a means to keep the cost of the repairs down. They tried to keep it simple until they had to make it complex. They also took the time to call my extended warranty company and were able to get the repair covered.
