The staff was so attentive it felt like they had a sixth sense for empty water glasses, never hovering, just magically there when needed. Honestly, 10/10 for making me feel like a VIP who definitely doesn't cook at home. Chin's is a pretty good place to stop when you want sit a sit down experience. It's reasonably priced because the portions are pretty decent. We always order too much food. Service was good, the waiter came by to refill drinks and was attentive. The ambiance is kind of traditional Chinese restaurant decor and was nice with paper lanterns for the light fixtures, which always give off a nice glow. I haven't decided on my favorite items yet. This is our favorite place for Chinese food in North County. They can get pretty busy but are usually quick to turn tables. We don't typically wait long to be seated. The inside is nice and welcoming with cute Chinese decorations that aren't overdone or tacky. The stand out dish is the Tangerine Beef. It's our go to order every time. The sauce is flavorful and the beef is tender and super crispy. They also have the best cream cheese wantons with crabmeat. The service is friendly enough but could use some improvement. Our server didn't really check on us or refill our water throughout our meal. Overall it's the best option for Chinese food in the area. read more

Get the spicy black pepper beef !!! Came here and was in the Encinitas area wanted to see what Chins was all about. Me and my buddy's came here and shared our food. We got the black pepper beef, imperial shrimp plate with scallops, orange chicken, honey walnut shrimp, imperial noodle soup, crispy chicken dumplings and white rice. I ordered take out, the two chicken wing appetizers, fried rice and beef and broccoli. ($74) When I tell you how disappointed I was when I saw how LITTLE the portion was. For $23, the most expensive thing we ordered. The Togo container wasn't even filled up. The wings were average and the rice was good. But the small portion was disappointing. Okay, entering this restaurant is an experience in of itself. I can't have a review of Chin's without first mentioning the decor! Although it's a little dim inside, the interior just screams your stereotypical Chinese restaurant. Truly, like it was transported straight out of a sitcom. It was very fun to dine somewhere like this. In terms of the food, I was pleasantly surprised, as I don't frequent Chinese cuisine as much as I wish I did. There is a great variety on the menu, and I absolutely loved how they had an entire panel dedicated to describing their sauces. Not only does this help you choose and understand the complexity of the flavors, but it also lets you check for any food allergies/dietary restrictions. The prices are higher during dinner, and they're on the relatively higher side, too. I'd say it was an average of $20 per dish. That being said, I recommend that your entire table orders multiple dishes and you share amongst yourselves. We ended up ordering the chicken lo mein, mapo tofu, hot and sour soup, honey walnut shrimp, imperial fish, and ma la scallop. This was the perfect amount of food for six people to share family style. It's also worth to mention that they served us a pot of rice without charge. The hot and sour soup was very sour, and although it wasn't to my personal taste, it was a favorite among my table (and the people around us!). I did, however, like that the server portioned a small bowl for everyone. I have to say that I was impressed by every dish I tried, especially the mapo tofu. And of course, everyone loves lo mein and honey walnut shrimp! I wish I could've tried more dishes. Maybe next time I come back to Chin's!! read more

Chin's Szechwan Encinitas is a great restaurant. I have been looking for a good solid Chinese restaurant and this is it! We ordered the appetizer Shanghai Egg Rolls, which are fried thin wraps, delicately flavorful. We devoured all four, dipping them in the orange sauce. I ordered an amazing dish, Ma La Three Flavor. It was sooo amazing. It had all my favorites, beef, chicken and shrimp. It had two kinds if mushrooms, snow peas, and more in a brown rich tasty sauce. It was sublime. My boyfriend got "Imperial Double Happiness" which looks amazing but I found it lacking flavor, with just a garlic white sauce. Yin and yang. Two totally different flavors between out dishes. I loved the dark sauce. Well we will be back to try all the dishes eventually. The menu is overwhelmingly large, so we will be back. So yes, order the Ma La Three Flavor. Yummy. read more

Although it's farther from us than the Chin's Szechwan Del Mar location, the Encinitas restaurant consistently delivers better food portions, especially when it comes to protein like chicken and shrimp. Best Chinese food in town!! I moved to San Diego not too long ago and have been looking for an authentic + traditional Chinese restaurant around the area and finally discovered Chin's. I tried the black pepper beef and Ku ting crispy shrimp the first time I visited and they were both AMAZING and full of flavor. I wanted to try more things on the menu, but it was just 2 of us there for lunch, but I went back again over the weekend for a family dinner for my grandma's 80th birthday and they did not disappoint!! We had a table of 14 people [which they were able to easily accommodate, unlike other restaurants that charge spending minimum] and ordered 12 of the recommended dishes by our wonderful waitress, Jennifer. 2025-0108. My wife and I visited for the first time at noon and we had the lunch special Kim Paso chicken and the Hunan fish. Here a few comments: 1. Food was very salty. My wife could not finish her food. 2. $38 for two people lunch is too expensive. 3. The booths are too tight for sitting. When my slim wife complains about sliding in space, that's a problem. I eat a lot of Panda Express, but I'm starting to think that this place is worth the extra price. I only get to go, but it's always good and consistent. The worst Takeout/Pickup experience I've ever had. Ordered at 6:15pm, it was supposed to be ready at 7:10pm. I did not walk out with food until 8pm. There was no manager there explaining to a full lobby full of people waiting for takeout what was going on. They let the two kids at the register fend for themselves. I saw full families walk in, sit down, order, and leave before I and many others got their food. read more
