He was…read moreunknowledgeable and misinformed about what was acceptable house condition for a homeowner's policy. Although the house roofs were new, only a year old, the garage roof (had curled shingles) still needed to be done and the agent was apprised of this condition at the outset. Hess assured me this would not be a problem since it was not over the living area. WRONGO!!! I paid in full for the homeowner's policy on 11/21/2014. Allstate subsequently informed me that the inspection took place around 11/28. Hess called me on 12/26 - yes a month later - to tell me Allstate would not accept the condition of the garage roof. He had pathetic excuses for why it took him a month to contact me - the holidays, it was dark when he was at the property (no, it wasn't, it was broad daylight when he was there, he just forgot to look at it!). I asked him to confer with Allstate about what it would take to resolve the situation and to please get back to me. He never called me back with any resolution from Allstate. Oh, and he never credited my account with the payment. Allstate has since informed me that he backed up the cancellation of the homeowner's policy to the start date. Thus I did not receive any communication from Allstate that the homeowners policy had been cancelled. Hess had my money for 47 days, it is state law in NY that a refund has to be processed within 30 days. I am looking into how I can make a formal complaint against this agency with the appropriate regulatory authority. Uninformed, won't communicate, and careless with customer's money. Not a good choice.
