I guess I've gotten lucky every time I come here and haven't had a bad experience yet. I always order the carnitas or chicken bowl and compared to San Jose locations, the employees here load the bowl up until it spills! Okay, so I've only been to this Chipotle location once when I was really hungry, but it's questionable whether or not I'll be back again on my own accord. Lets start with what I like about this particular location: -Friendly, awesome staff. Greeted me as soon as they saw me walking up to the serving counter. The guy with the beard is a gentlemen and a scholar through and through. -I like being able to see what I can get in my burrito and of how much. Easy to read menu, everything is set out right in front. -On this particular day there was absolutely no line and no wait. I was in and out of there in less than five minutes. Now.. here is where it all starts falling apart: -The food is good, but honestly I can name a handful of places around the area that (in my opinion) make better Mexican food. Don't get me wrong, Chipotle's food isn't bad at all and I think what threw me off the most was the mix of cold sour cream with the warm carnitas. -However my BIGGEST gripe I have with Chipotle in general is the price. Look, I'll pay a bit more for quality food, but it costs over $10 for a medium-smallish burrito (which I had to pay an extra $2.00 for guacamole by the way) and that's just not worth it to me. I couldn't find much else that was wrong with the place. It was clean inside, plenty of seating outside and in, and it's in a great spot in Capitola. the worst chipotle experiences i have ever had. not only is their front area extremely slow, dirty, understaffed, and under stocked (they NEVER have fajita veggies. been here 8+ times in the last few months and they only had it once) the manager with the long dangly nose ring tried to charge me for double meat when i was getting half and half. i used to work for chipotle and that is NOT how it works. he FIRST told me he didn't know how to ring it up- so then when i explained how, he said "no", he has to charge me for the "extra" meat for inventory purposes. he said he had to charge me for a chicken bowl plus a side of steak, when i only had one small serving of half chicken half steak. which was $15 versus $10. i've never been charged extra for half and half meat. they're supposed to charge for one serving of the more expensive meat. i am so frustrated and embarrassed to have experienced this in a chipotle i literally feel like crying after arguing with this manager. i told him i'm just not gonna get the bowl and he said "fine with me" and i walked out, everyone was staring. i will never go back to this chipotle, or possibly any chipotle in the santa cruz area ever again. edit: i ended up reordering my bowl online to get the correct price. it was absolute chaos inside this chipotle but the manager was nicer and gave me and others a free drink for waiting. i feel bad saying what i did before but it's still true and i've now spent two hours dealing with chipotle. ended up getting my food but it was definitely not worth the time and emotional energy read more

This chipotle used to be good but I think a change in staff or something really made the quality in their food drop. I got my burrito with steak and guacamole and when I went to eat it I noticed something odd. The rice felt crunchy and very under cooked. Also whenever I ate the steak it was always parts of gristle and fat and it was completely under seasoned and over cooked. I also don't think they know how to make guacamole because I would find huge chunks of really hard not mashed avocado in my bowl, and the chunks were almost the size of half of a avocado. I have been very disappointed and will not be returning soon. I would also like to add that I got food poisoning from this location. read more

Do NOT waste your time. Don't come here. Make your own burrito bowl at home for the same price. This is THE worst chipotle in the state. Came in with my girlfriend two hours before closing, and both of us were craving chipotle all day. We waited behind one person in line for 15 minutes while no workers were to be seen. All that could be observed was the disgusting mess around the food area, the contaminated prep boards, and the uncleaned tables. Finally a worker came out, and very angrily helped the man in front of me build half of his burrito before informing him they were OUT OF MEAT. He let him build half of the burrito before telling him this. They also had no beans so there was literally 0 protein. The guy eventually convinced the worker to scrape the bottom of the meat tubs and give him a little bit of meat, which the worker informs him has "been there since lunch" (it was 8 pm). The guac was brown and basically empty, and despite there being a gigantic, visibly open box of chips behind him, the worker told the man there were no chips. My girlfriend and I waited about 10 more minutes where the worker basically stood in the back and glared at us before we decided we could just go to Safeway and make much healthier, more delicious burrito bowls at home for cheaper. I will never come back here, ever. I will also be contacting corporate about this and seeing what they plan to do about the management here, because clearly this is a problem. read more

They act like asking for extra rice comes out of their paycheck and that the customers are purely an inconvenience to them even though they work in customer service. If I had a dollar for every time I went in and an employee smiled or was friendly, I'd have $0. I've worked in customer service my whole life and I get that it can be draining, but it's your job and you should take pride in what you do and do it well. Just went to get chipotle and I am super bummed with my meal! The burrito fit in the size of my hands maybe 4 inches and my boyfriend got a burrito veggie bowl and there were 5 onions(veggies?) and he asked for extra rice and there was probably a legit spoonful. We went back in to ask for another meal or a refund and they forgot my veggies. I'm super bummed with the food I do not recommend. What's happening at the Chipotle Mexican Grill on 41st Ave in Santa Cruz? I have been a customer since the restaurant opened several years ago. Often getting lunch 2-3 times a week. Love the food and service. I know its been a chalange for all restaurants since COVID but theres no excuse for keeping up quality and cleanliness!! The last several months I have been disappointed that they are often out of one or more Ingredients, the food area is a mess. Food spilled all over the place, the dining room is often filthy , garbage and recycle bin's overflowing. I know they have had a hard time finding and keeping employees but when I see several employees working in the side prep area having a fun time I'm wondering why one of them can't do a little house keeping. We went in to order in person and they asked us if we had an online order and we said no we were going to order and they gave us attitude. The first guy told us to wait about 10 minutes and we waited until a second guy asked us again if we had an online order and we said no again and that we were going to order. The second guy was complaining about how theres a lot of online orders and that he was working off the clock since he said how he missed his mandatory lunch. We just left after he said all of that because we didn't give them any attitude and they were just being very rude. I get that they were stressed with all the online orders and being understaffed but they didn't have to be rude to us. They could have simply told us that they were only taking online orders. When I called the person working there couldn't understand what I was talking about. when I finally explained for the third time she asked me if I wanted to talk to the manager. The manager proceeded to talk to the worker but didn't get on the phone to talk to me personally. As a manager myself if a customer calls to complain I get on the phone and personally talk to them. I generally get a steak burrito, but at this location they're almost always nearly out of steak and try to get me to order something else. They appear to have a lot of employees but the service is always slow. Let me summarize Chipotle with one word: Indecisive. Let's start with the atmosphere. At first when you go to open the doors you see giant wooden handles, which makes you think you are about to enter an upscale bar... Then when you get inside you are unsure weather you have entered an Urban Outfitters, Ikea or high school cafeteria. The music is blaring some obscure white band. While the lights and verity of seating makes you wonder where you can find those paper lamps that Ikea sells for two bucks. Then once you find the line in the back of the space, you realize they are serving your food to you on a sectioned off plastic tray. That, once you get, you wonder where your carton of chocolate milk is. Not to mention that while you are in line you can see the open "prep area" where stainless steel runs ramped. Moving on to the service. Now the service is a big part of the atmosphere but I decided to make it a section of it's own because there were so many different things I found... interesting, about the vibe they created. For starters you got the feeling that all the employees were runners up for the barista job at Starbucks a few stores down. Or failed to become a jolly juicer at the Jamba Juice around the corner. Employees that once they started to serve you, you couldn't tell if they were trying to rush you through, or trying to take the time to care for what you would like. And all this while they are talking over you to their co-workers, asking if they are doing something correctly. Then once you get to the register you really feel the cattle prod come out. I took my receipt without so much as a "thank you" or "have a nice day". Latter on while I was eating one of the staff was cleaning the tables behind me, yet if I hadn't known that, I would have thought he was just some random person with the way he asked another customer "you finished with this." Now on to the main course as it were, the food itself. Chipotles' Subway stile burrito line was very confusing. I ended up getting a burrito with the mysterious spicy meat, and the rest of the usual suspects: rice, salsa, beans, and cheese. There was a good selection of things to add to your burrito, so I'll give them that. Then I saw the employee proceed to "wrap" my burrito in some fashion that could only be described as closing the lids of a cardboard box. Which was fallowed soon by "it ripped, would you like me to wrap it again?" (no cause it would probably just happen again.) I thought to myself. I declined to get the paper bag of chips, with the self explanatory word "chips" printed on it, in that rustic all caps dirty headline font. Then proceeded to get my coke and find a seat. Oh, I was surprised to find them offering beer there, didn't look like anything too fancy but corona isn't to bad. Now into the burrito itself. Which fooled me at first into thinning it was a brick. It was less burrito shaped then it was the size of a small log. So I took my burrito log and proceeded to partake. The rice was strange it Had more of a wet lemony taste as apposed to the starchy clumpy rice I'm used to from the Mexican grill down the street from my apartment. The meat was good surprisingly tasteful. Beans were beans and cheese was cheese. One strange thing of note. The burrito had some odd little cold spots. I would take a bite of some warm rice and meat. Fallowed by a chilly bite of cold tortilla and beans. This most-likely from the process in which my burrito was made. By scooping the ingredients on one after the other. For example getting a giant bite of sour cream. But in the end it was filling and surpassing tasteful. Now to summarize. I thought Chipotle was the cafeteria at an Ikea where employees from Starbucks took there break while eating a lukewarm burrito log. Or in other words. Indecisive. read more

Went there with my son who is a vegetarian. We are glad they started having a veggie protein--sofritas. We both got the salad with sofritas with a side of vinaigrette dressing. We both enjoyed our meals. The dressing can be strong so it's best to try a little and add as necessary. In the back of our minds, we were thinking about the e. coli incidents in the past. I came to this location today! It was surprisingly not busy around lunch time. I am super excited that a Chipotle has opened in Capitola! I love burrito bowls! Overall the food was alright. The service was chaotic. Since this location is new I wasn't expecting everything to go smoothly but the employees seemed very confused. I ordered a half chicken, half vegetarian burrito bowl! I thought it was a simple order but the employee got really confused and asked if I wanted rice with my order. Obviously I want rice with my bowl! She also made me tell her what I wanted numerous times which was kind of annoying. When it was time to get my toppings I thought things would go a lot better. But again, the employees were running all over the place! One of them also ignored me but I decided not to care. The food was only okay compared to the other Chipotles I have been to.
