Man, I love Chipotle. Every time I eat a Chipotle burrito, it surprises me how goddamn tasty it is. No idea why it should be a surprise, since every single one of their burritos I've ever eaten has been delicious, but whatevs. I think this is the only Chipotle branch I've been to, so I'm not sure if they're all the same, but I really like the industrial-feel interior. I also love moving along the line, being asked if I'd like this, that or the other in my burrito. The answer to the question is invariably, "Yes please, I'd like everything please, and that and that and that, with a little extra of that please!" My only complaint is that the experience is over all too soon. Maybe I should just learn to slow down and not stuff my fat face with their beautiful burrito bounty in the space of five minutes. I can't believe anyone can give any branch of chipotle lower than 5 stars and there certainly aren't any better burrito places in town. Sure they are a massive chain, but they make burritos with military precision. They are expensive, but they are the Rolls Royce of burrito perfection really. I am a big - huge! - fan of Chipotle. Basically, I try to eat vegan and slow carb - mostly, I fail miserably as very few places accommodate my restricted diet (end result being me with an allergic reaction and stomach cramps). Then Chipotle comes along to save the day! Basically, you can order a beautiful and delicious salad with all the macro nutrients and most of the micro nutrients to fulfill a basic meal. Meats are well marinated, beef looked very oily! salsa's are not hot;-( although the selection of Tabasco's turns the heat up a bit! I agree the prices are a bit on the high side. I went for a quick dinner tonight (Friday night). It's Chipotle is always a great place to get great food fast. We had a buy-one-get-one free voucher. I won't have gone here otherwise as I do feel it's expensive (£7-£8 a dish) for what you get. The Angel store seems to be dropping their initial enthusiasm that they when they first opened. The store was a big messy and is starting to feel like a sluggish MacDonald's restaurant. I have a mild obsession with Mexican food, especially burritos. Back in my old country, this obsession hardly seemed noteworthy since great, fat, tasty burritos could be found virtually anywhere. And in the US, Chipotle was just one of many spots to get another fantastic burrito fix. I'm happy to report that here in the UK, it still is. Not to mention: a cut above just being delicious because it is also offers hormone-free and socially responsibly-farmed ingredients for those big ol burritos. If you've been to Chilango just down the street, this Subway-style built-to-order system will look the same. Quick, fresh and casual, easy peasy. And in the big debate that surely only I am burrito obsessed enough to create and participate in, Chipotle wins, hands down. (I refuse to compare it to Desperados or Tortilla -- not the same, not at all) Tortillas were super fresh and of excellent texture (no hard edges, not too floury or starchy or too thick). Options for rice were brown or white (both seasoned accordingly, not just plain). Odd that the pinto beans contain pork, so black beans only for the veggies. Carnitas meat was top freaking notch - creamy (sounds like an odd description for meat, but for slow roasted meats, trust me it makes sense), spiced perfectly and def fresh. I dropped about £10 on a carnitas burrito and a Pacifico. I passed on the added guac since that would add another £1.50, a charge I find unjustifiable. I liked the stripped down modern/industrial décor (my companion found it to be too sterile) and the roll up doors to offer indoor/outdoor seating are great. In the end, I don't think I've ever been happier with a burrito since moving here. Oh and right now they are giving out BOGO free burritos on your next visit. Yay, I'm a fan but this place cannot get 5 stars right now...the burrito war wages on... The good part is that the pork carnitas was full of flavour and the texture was just right, better than Chilango which has strangely switched to big chunks of pork belly and Tortilla which last time was bland and tasted of chicken stock cube . The pinto beans were good as was the guac (but not the £1.49 price tag as Linzi notes). The salsa was excellent too. The rice was strange, not fluffy and a bit like that quick cook rice you can get. The utilitarian interior is like a factory loading bay but at least it's clean and functional. So the overall taste rates highly BUT it's not a good value meal in my opinion. £8.50 for a simple burrito for lunch without any chips or drink is too high. Another case of just changing the $ sign to a £ sign when things cross over from the US to the UK. My reference standard is now the £5.50 burrito (including guacamole) from Luardos on Whitecross St market. A different style from chipotle but just as good and better value. Next time I'll go back there but Chipotle is so much closer for me. read more

There's a lot of competition for Mexican in the Angel/Islington Green area. Chilango's, Chipotle, the craptastic Desperados, and the soon to be open Wahaca all within a stone's throw of each other. You'd think we were living in San Jose, CA... without the sunshine. Am a big fan of Chilango's, but am leaning towards Chipotle as my go-to burrito joint in the hood. Why? I like the healthy options, brown rice, black beans instead of the luscious bacon cooked pinto beans... 0 tortilla option, but more importantly, I totally aspire to their 'Food with Integrity' motto. There's a reason that this is one of the top 50 most innovative companies in the world (for breaking the rules of Fast Food, sic. Fast Company 2012). I know that 'being green' and 'sustainable' is very much on trend, but there's something to be said about sourcing fresh, local, and sustainable ingredients, cooking them in an open kitchen that is completely spotless, and served in what looks like a sterilized environment. This is a company that never uses GM corn... despite the fact that 65% of American corn is genetically modified. Anyway, that's for the brand differentiation. Ultimately, though, you may ask, "How the hell does the damn burrito taste???" Simply put, pretty awesome. Their pork carnitas is wet, messy, and grotesquely satisfying. Same goes for the Beef BBQ. The pinto beans are rich, full of flavour, the £1.50 surcharge for the guacamole worth it (it's good guac). And... they have Negra Modelo. That's a burrito beer right there. What more can I say? BONUS- Pinto beans are now pork-free and vegetarian! Now I really like Chipotle and have been to this chain quite a few times, but it's only here that I get problems. The customer service is a bit shoddy. I don't think they get any more customers from the other locations in Soho, so I don't know what their problem is. I've been treated like a lost tourist and had snotty remarks about my burrito they are making. But the portion size in this chain seems to be shrinking. A veggie burrito should have a bit more rice and beans and veg to fill it up- not 1/4 C full of nothing in that giant tortilla. Veggie burritos are also blessed with free guacamole- something I'm very grateful for!- also, very skimp. When I asked for a bit more, I was told I would have to pay extra. No thanks. All that Tabasco sauce helps ease the pain though, mmmm The unisex toilets upstairs are really nice though! Well it seems London has undergone a huge Burrito-fest the last couple of months. Filled with new players on the scene, endless pop-ups and new recipes flying from every direction - As an avid fan of Mexican food, this was obviously a massive deal for me and yes, I've been jumping in head first! Well although I've had some personal highlights and tried a host of new things, it's the original and established Chipotle that reigns supreme for me. I got into Chipotle initially over in the States, it was clearly the favourite Burrito spot over there and with good reason. The food is simple, good quality and by hell does it taste all kinds of awesome. My go-to are normally tacos and Chipotle's are on point. They can't miss. Fluffy and soft taco shells that are warmed through, then filled with freshly cooked tender meaty chunks and the freshest of salad. It's not a taco dish without some tabasco and the 3 varieties that Chipotle offer all culminate to make an epic spicy dip. I'm actually foaming at the mouth typing this. I always, ALWAYS, supplement the tacos with some chips and guacamole and if you have to question why, then you haven't tried the guack - it's the best. Chipotle have loads of spots open across the capital now and they're only increasing but this spot in Angel is my local. It's quite small and I have seen some lines, but they normally disappear after 10 mins or so. So wether it's for a mid-week snack, treat dinner or with mates and beers. If you are familiar with the concept of starbucks or subway then you already know how this place works, you go in.. pick from a selection of proteins.. toppings and sauce and you're done! You also have the option of Burrito, Taco or bowl (just the goodies without the wrap). My personal favourite is the steak burrito. I can just eat that all day. NB: if you can't handle spicy food go the pork for a mild yet still super yummy treat. It's good quality fast food, and the place also include some seating if you are like me who LOVES their food hot off the assembly line. Ok, I have to be honest. I struggle to rate any of the Mexican places in the UK objectively. I hail from Southern California, the very cradle of Mexican food as most non-natives know it. Yes, that sounds wrong, but trust me; California is where the best Mexican comes from. I know what good, authentic Mexican food tastes like...and even Chipotle misses the mark. That's not to say that it's not good; it is, very much so! The meats are fresh, the black and pinto beans are both seasoned and piping hot, and the guac is legit. They even boast the best of all the tortilla chips I have had here so far. But it, like the other Angel establishments, misses the mark. It misses the down and dirty (and frankly, greasy) quality that makes good Mexican...well, *Mexican*. But if you're looking for a filling and healthy meal, you can't go wrong here! I really love the burrito bowl with pinto beans, chicken, peppers, lettuce, sour cream, and a squeeze of lime. Two of us popped in for a Burrito yesterday. Nice venue, very friendly staff who make up your burrito amazingly quick (you can barely see them roll it into the foil). The Burrito itself was nice, not too moist (as is often the case with rice filled burritos), and the cheese/sour cream mix was lovely too. I had the chicken. They cost £6.95, which to me, is too much for what they are (but then this is upper street). I also had Tortillas and Guacamole/dip. These were pretty forgettable to be honest. The dips tasted absolutely great but at £2.30 for a small pot of Guacmole I didn't feel like they were good value for money at all. The chips were very plain and had no real taste to them (I'm not an expert, maybe they are supposed to be like this), but for me, not interested. I have been eating Chipotle since 2002. My first burrito I had was in Houston, TX. State of Texas is one place where you'd expect to find the tastiest Mexican food, outside of Mexico itself. Well in this case- Tex-Mex. Since the first bite, Chipotle was my favourite! The carnitas, barbacoa, fresh pico de gallo, tastiest guac you could ever find! Many places will try to compete with Chipotle, but when it comes to flavour and quality, there no competition. Above all they're always consistent wherever they may be! That's right, Chipotle in Angel is finally open and brings with it a spicy new flavour that totally will overshadow the nearby Chilangos and Tortilla (and Desperados). The spanking new place just at the fork of Essex Road and Upper Street has your standard burritos, bowls, salads and tacos with chicken, beef, pork and veggie. But what separates this place from the "wannabes" of London Mexican food is the SALSA!!! Finally we get mild, medium and hot salsas made from juicy tomatoes, jalapeños, onions, etc., that sets your taste buds on fire. Good, super fresh fast food at a great price. To put it simply Chipotle ticks all the foodie boxes for me. Available to eat in or take away you simply choose from either a Burrito, a Bowl (all the burrito ingredients without the wrap) tacos or salad base then (like a subway counter) you wander along and select your beans, meat and salads. I opted for the bowl so my meal consisted of brown rice, refried beans, pulled pork, and plenty of fresh salsa and salad to boot - it was delicious! A quick healthy alternative to your classic deep fat fryer take-away, in fact there is no fryer to be seen at all! Highly recommend and if you like a bit of a kick opt for the hot salsa - with really get you tingling! read more

The brown rice option definitely makes it stand out. I also like the corn salsa, which wasn't very spicy for me, but added a good texture to the burrito. As for the tortilla chips, some love them, some hate them, depending on how much salt you like and if the lime taste is for you. Personally I generally like them, but a few were overcooked and thus soft, which was too bad. The guacamole is AMAZING though, definitely the way it should be (unlike Bar Burrito's). First of all, I LOVE burritos. Having eaten my way through giant Mission style piles of steaming delicious carne asada and real guac in the states I was prepared to give Chipotle a try. First time I went it was good. Well seasoned steak ( even though I had to ask for a bit more meat as I felt the one spoonful I got from the server wasn't quite enough), tasty lime cilantro rice and good guac. Second time around I walked into the branch only to find a pidgeon!! strolling around inside. Not a good start. The burrito was simply underwhelming. i came here pre cinema visit as we had a buy one get one free deal from a previous yelp event we'd been too. i'm a burrito fan (once i have made sure it's essentially a giant fajita - no rice or beans for me!), and i'm a huge fan of chilangos just down the road from here, so my expectations was that it should be just as good as there, if not better, given it's obvious success across the pond. i was pretty underwhelmed - the burrito wasn't that great at all, but it wasn't inedible. the extra guac i got was alright - but for £1.50 (at regular prices)?!?! that's pretty steep! the atmosphere was pretty casual and relaxed which was nice, and the service was quick and friendly, so that was all good and probably ups the stars on this place a bit. i definitely wouldn't return given that chilangos is just down the road, but i am glad to have tried it, and we definitely got a good deal with our buy one get one free offer :) read more

I got really excited that there was a Chipotle right around the corner from our new apartment after moving from New York. As a frequent Chipotle visitor while living in the states, I would go as far to call myself a Chipotle enthusiast. That being said, I was very disappointed in the taste of the food at this particular branch. WAY WAY WAY too salty. The food was so over-salted that I could barely stomach it. Also, the chicken and the peppers were burnt.... and I'm not talking a little char. The peppers were full on black strips of charcoal. Well, okay. I'm from Southern California (so I know my burritos) and came to visit and decided to try the Chipotle as I have been deprived of Chipotle for two months now in Europe. I was severely disappointed, but some of the reviews say otherwise probably because they never had it in America where it's more flavorful and generous with their portions. The employees made me feel like they wanted me out, the burrito itself was half the size it should be, the tastes were bland and had no spice to it even with the sauces I asked for, and the Spanish guy gave out free burrito coupons to any other Spanish people in the restaurant saying, 'It's nice to see other Spanish people enjoying Spanish food!'. Uh... No sir. Chipotle HQ needs to send some people over here to teach them how to have manners and not skimp on portions. I basically love this food chain, have been eating their food in many countries and locations. This particular Islington location has great potential but they often run out of ingredients leaving customers wait for 10 minutes or so, many end up giving up their hope in the queue and leave.
