The location of this Chipotle is very conveniently located downtown on the east side, so I have been a patron almost my entire college experience. The food is generally pretty good, but there have been a few instances where the rice is crunchy, the beans haven't been drained, or the meat I get is burnt. Usually, I order my chipotle online and go to pick it up. There have been more than a few occasions, particularly on Sunday and Monday evenings, where the orders for pick-up are extremely backed up and there are 10+ people waiting to pick up their orders. I have had experiences before where I come back 30 minutes after my "promised" pick up time to have my order not be ready still. Ever since the Cinema 5 closed downtown, I've been conflicted. On the one hand, I lost tons of good memories of my early college days watching movies. But seeing the old theater replaced with a restaurant is a nice change. Chipotle is one of the more recent Mexican food chains making its way around the Ohio/PA area. Simply put, they make extremely filling burritos at a fair price. There was a decent sized line at the place, about a five minute wait before we could order. I grabbed a steak bowl with pinto beans, corn salsa, and a side of chips with it. All things considered, Chipolte burritos are naturally spicy which sent my friend into a soda drinking spree. The meat tasted fresh and overall the burrito felt filling. The chips on the other hand are hit or miss between our group. I loved the chips, they mixed a lime and very salty flavor. It baffles me how disappointed I was with this Chipotle. If you are from this part of Pennsylvania...I can understand how you might think this is good food, having a Qdoba for comparison, but if you've ever eaten at another Chipotle, you'll know what I mean. This Chipotle's not too bad. The food is typical(ly good) for this chain and the employees are generally nice. There is this one employee who always seems to have a really bad attitude but really only when she's stuck wrapping burritos. Not my fault someone didn't drain the beans and now the tortilla has soggy weak spots...but yea poor straining when doling out the beans and salsas usually lead to the broken burritos folks are complaining about. As for lines, they're pretty typical for a Chipotle during lunch hours but I am impressed that they move pretty consistently. Some of the reviewers on here don't seem to realize that they aren't unique in their craving for a lunchtime burrito. If you don't want to deal with the peak hour lines, don't go during peak hours! Seating is good, especially the separate area in the corner with the windows. The only thing that really irritates me is that they only have a small bike post out front. The Pros: Decent burritos and excellent quality meat with generous portions. The meat preparation and flavor is very good! My favorite is the Brabacoa (shredded beef simmered in adobo sauce and spices to give it a smokey flavor), which I prefer over the chicken and steak. The pork carnitas is pretty good too. The food is expensive, but you do get your money worth for the portion size. It's fine for take-out. Quick service and you get to see your food being prepared down the line. Also you can ask for freebies such as "double-wrapped" to get two shells for one burrito. You can ask for more of each ingredient if desired, so that's also a big plus. The Cons: You can get as much of the ingredients you want that are included with your menu item, but chips, salsa, and other toppings/sides (ie: guacamole) are extra. That's right, no free extras here. That's the biggest disappointment. If you ask for something unusual or something to be included on the side in a separate container, they get a confused look on their face as if you're breaking their rhythm. Salsa selection is very poor. The mild salsa tastes like nothing, while the medium salsa is sometimes too hot to taste any flavor. I haven't tried the hot salsa because of this. The lime rice with cilantro is also pathetically weak in the flavor department. As for dinning environment in the State College location, this place is both loud and unappetizing. During Penn State semesters this place is crawling with students, talking loudly to their friends, on their phones, etc., etc. Not family friendly when the semester is in full swing. And unfortunately the industrial look of the dinning area only makes the noise issue worse. Note that lines can get a little long in the middle of the lunch hour during the Penn State semesters. Honestly, I've really enjoyed Chipotle shops when I was living in California. But here in State College (my home town), it's sub-par at best. Chipotle is salvating us from having to eat from Taco Bell. Before, I didn't really like mexican food, due to Taco Bell.. Then I tried Qdoba and it failed to impress me. I tried Wild Cactus on the HUB before, but it was pretty much Taco Bell in Qdoba size... Combining those 2 aspects didn't really do the trick either. But I was so glad when Chipotle made its way to this little in-the-middle-of-nowhere desperate town. First I was skeptical but my friends asked me to try it so I did. Sometimes during the rush hour in lunch time, I got to wait for a while, but it was not a long wait, because the staffs were efficient and fast with their serving. When I finally got served, I could see that the ingredients were freshly made that morning and I chose Fajita Burrito with Carnitas (I always have Fajita Burrito now, and I have tried all toppings, they are all good). I had cheese, sour cream, hot salsa added on it. I paid a pretty decent price for a burrito this size that I could see was fulfilling. I sat down and enjoyed my burrito. Wow... It was fresh, juicy, and tasted really good... Not as authentic as the restaurant near Mexico border I had in San Diego before, but this should do the trick. I tried to order the taco and it was also good. What I liked was how they made everything fresh, a big plus aspect, made everything beautiful. The service was fast, the restaurant was clean, and the food was good. An excellent overall experience here. 4/5, why? Because Chipotle is good, but not special enough for me to give that rare 5 stars :p read more
