It's a Chipotle so the expectations are not that high. There was no wait to order but the bins where they have all the food were cross-contaminated, messy with spills, and generally not presentable, but again it's Chipotle, fast food, and likely underpaid employees. One of the employees had her child running around the dining room area. The floors were filthy, the trash cans overflowing, the condiments and soda area a mess. There were so many employees, so it wasn't an issue of being short staffed, it was an issue of careless staff. I got the veggie crispy tacos, and they tasted great, so all in all, my craving was satisfied. I'd probably take the food to go but I felt like dining in. read more

Every six weeks I break a promise to myself and go back to this hellish shithole. I'm convinced the hideous, rude, insolent, dismissive service has to be intentional as part of a secret pact the employees have made amongst themselves. Their usual routine is to stand around in small groups chatting while completely ignoring any and all customers. Any attempt to get their attention is eventually met with seething hostility. I'm sure part of the problem is the cumulative IQ of the entire staff but stupid doesn't necessarily have to translate to hostile incompetence. I live nearby this chipotle and every time we have ever ordered take out the orders are way off. If it's a salad there will be a sprinkle of Romain on the bottom with heaps of rice and beans that resembles a bowl, if it's a quesadilla there will be maybe an 1oz of cheese spread onto a regular size tortilla, and if it's salsa it's missing its key ingredients such as cilantro, lime, onion, tomato to its corn salsa. The worry is that if there are corners being cut in food quality than what other corners are cut elsewhere? The staff need to be trained on food handling and how to actually make the menu that is reflective of the Mexican style Chipotle is known for. It is also alarming that the Navy Yard Chipotle just recently closed due to health concerns. So hopefully they aren't linked but it seems like Chipotle corporate needs to be involved with its franchises here in southeast DC. read more

I was walking around the area this evening in search of a familiar restaurant to get dinner. I rolled in at 8pm and there was a line of about five people who were waiting to place their order. They had several people behind the food line, so it didn't take long at all for me to place my order. I went for the steak bowl with brown rice, black beans, lettuce, tomatoes, and sour cream. The part that is missing you may think? It was the steak of course. It didn't affect them though, they had an employee slicing up some freshly made steak just for me! The other employee who actually did all of the work in preparing the bowl was completely awesome! She hooked that bowl up with large portions of all the ingredients. This would be the second night in a row where I felt like I really received a great portioned dinner item. It tasted good too! read more

I went in to get a salad bowl. One thing about this location is that they never have anything. Salad no bowl, chicken no steak, sour cream no vinaigrette and so on. I wish that I could give 0 stars!!! They made all customers do online orders instead of ordering in store because they "got too busy." Fine! I understand the fast pace setting of Chipotle. But all but one employee looked high on drugs. I've never seen people move so slow and look so sleepy. And to top it off one employee was more concerned with her AirPod falling out than pushing orders out. Given all the amazing fast casual mexican alternatives that have popped up in recent years, I find chiptole to be pretty boring. They make little effort to change their menu according to the seasons, for example. In fact I dont think their menu has ever changed, albeit the addition of sofrita. Chiptole is a good travel meal, however. I know I can reliably find it in most places I travel in the US, especially smaller towns that lack epicurean diversity and richness, but living DC, it is not somewhere I go to regularly. As for my recent experience at Chipotle. I ordered the chicken. See picture attached. I was little concerned by the pinkness of the chicken. Not sure if this is normal and I have attached a picture for others to judge. I was also a bit irritated by the cuts of chicken I was served. I felt like there was a lot of chicken skin, whereas I prefer more lean meat. i wish Chipotle had a white meat/dark meat option like some other fast casual Mexican restaurants. Other than the pink, fatty chicken, the flavors of the grilled vegetables and pico really hit the spot. They are the right balance of spice because I am not really into very spicy Mexican, just like a mild kick. The guacamole is also really delicious because they have mastered the right ratio of salt, tomato, avocado, and onion. It really hits the spot. read more

I purchased 3 entrees, 2 bags of tortilla chips, guac, salsa, and tortillas. The staff forgot the 3 entrees and a bag of chips. I called to let them know and came back to pick up my order. When I returned, an employee didn't believe me that I hadn't received my second bag of chips, so I had to convince her. Also, the staff packed the three bowls (which had juices from the meat and were loaded) on top of each other in one bag! They didn't double bag it so of course the bag's bottom became wet and the bag fell apart, entrees flying everywhere. I reported these issues to chipotle online and the company gave me rewards for future free meals. However I don't even want to eat at chipotle anymore. Congrats to the rentacop, and the "shift manager," for successfully treating a mentally disabled person as if you were the queens of the world on Sunday 10/25, while not even bothering to listen to the question of when to come back with a mask on. You both did an amazing job!! I hope you took great pride in your actions, and mockery of a disabled person. It was an added bonus that you said you'll talk to her near the door, and then when she waited at the door and was followed by you two absolute thugs, and then told to leave, simply because she was trying to ascertain when to come back for the food. Instead of listening and providing an answer, you decided to gang up on her again about the mask, completely ignoring the question, you called the cops because you were forcing her to leave without her food that was paid for. And then had to ask one of the staffers how to do that, and then came back to say through the app, AFTER she marked it picked up, and the customer was left incredibly confused. The best part was that you both felt the need to continue to mock her for almost 45 minutes while she stood outside trying to figure out what she should do next. So while other customers came and went, some offered to get the order and bring it to the door and even your employees who were leaving for the day questioned why they were allowed to go to the door to hand off the food because your store NEVER has preorders on the shelf that it's for. Those same employees apologized for the bullying among other things and said "they are always like that." So. Good for you for being a bully, a thief, a liar, and all around rude people. You both definitely deserved to be recognized for the mean people that you are. May you never get treated the way you treated me. This Chipotle has a great location near the Eastern Market metro station. The food always satisfies when I'm craving Chipotle. Compared to the other reviews, I have not had that many issues with customer service at this location. The only time they were out of ingredients was when there was an E.coli outbreak with the lettuce, and I thought it was pretty reasonable that they were not carrying lettuce. I will say that the line does move slowly, compared to other locations. I have come to this location when there is no line and when there is a long line, but there was no difference in speed of service. I'm not sure if there are understaffed or just inefficient but they do take longer than others to prepare your order. That being said, I never go here when I'm in a rush, so it wouldn't turn me away. read more

The first time service was very slow and the guy making my bowl didn't listen to me and put beans in instead of fajita, whatever I can live. The second time was a complete and utter disaster. My husband's burrito was so cold and disgustingly soggy when we got home (10 minutes later) he couldn't even eat it. My bowl turned out to not even be mine but belonged to the person who ordered behind me. Weren't you paying attention, you might ask. The people behind the counter were seemingly playing musical burritos with everyone's orders and it was hard to keep track of which one was ours. On a good day and time you can zoom in and out, but on a a regular day it's a very long wait time. This location is small, messy, and the customer service here lacks majorly. I feel like every time I visit the staff here is unfriendly as if the customers impeded on their day. It would be nice to be greeted with a warm welcome and smile upon arrival. When taking my order and I'm asking for "said toppings" for my bowl, the staff member is distributing each topping as if he/she is feeding a child or I'm watching my portions. I don't want 5 kernels of corn if I'm asking for corn ya know? Or 1 teaspoon of sour cream. Give me what I ask for without me asking for "more" repeatedly and let's move the line along. My major concern is why is that this Chipotle never clean? I know that there are patrons who loiter, however that should be controlled by management and the staff that allows them to loiter in and outside of the building. They are out of stuff a lot. To be fair we tend to come closer to the end of night on weekends but most other places keep everything up until the end. Used to work retail for five years and that was always our policy. The service ranges from nice to disinterested depending on the person. Last night they were out of steak and fajitas but they did give me a free bowl so that was all right. Overall I am so ready for Chipotle by Navy Yard to open. This location is very small with only a few tables in a high traffic part of Barracks Row. That means every night there will be a line that wraps almost in a circle in the small restaurant making it very crowded. Because of this, most people get their food to go. The experience at this Chipotle was overall average but still interesting. The Popeye's next door was even more interesting (See my review of them). I visited Chipotle this past Friday night. POSITIVE: -Tasty as it normally is at any Chipotle (If the negatives weren't there, I would've given 4 stars) COULD'VE BEEN BETTER: -Staff wasn't terribly friendly, but they weren't rude either. Some locations I experienced more friendly staff -When I asked for a water cup, the cashier repeated back, "a courtesy water cup." I felt this was a little bit odd. At any other Chipotle, they give you the water cup, but this one made it seem like they were doing a special favor by saying 'Courtesy'. (Water will be the biggest negative) -The store itself is pretty small, but this is expected in Capitol Hill, but it would've been nice if there were high top chairs where the window tables were. I just don't want to stand up and eat. I do remember in the high school cafeteria sometimes eating on high tables and standing, but times are different, and I just want to sit and eat. NEGATIVE: -Security guard was playing rap music kind of loud; I just wanted a somewhat quiet meal. I'm glad there is a guard there keeping us safe. However, it seems unprofessional to be playing music loud. -WATER: With my 'courtesy' cup, I got my water. I drank some of it, and it tasted nasty. I couldn't even drink all of it. Normally, I wouldn't do this, but the water didn't taste right so I poured it out and made an exception and got Sprite with the cup. The Sprite was fine, but I just had to wonder if the water was even safe to drink. read more

When you go to Chipotle, you kind of know what you're getting. This location is the worst one I've been to in the DMV, although I can't say it was the worst fast dining experience ever. I came at 3pm on a Saturday, so there was a line, of course. But even at peak times, other locations are MUCH faster than this one. The people preparing the meals move at somewhat of a snail's pace, and while my order was right, one worker proceeded to mess up the order of the lady behind me -- twice. The cashier seemed at best and wasn't one for making eye contact. My meal was OK, but my bowl was a little on the cold side and the beans had probably been sitting there for a while. As far as the place itself, yes, it's super small, but that's fine. What's not fine is that every unoccupied table was dirty and proceeded to stay dirty until 20 minutes later when the security guard wiped them down. Why yes, the security guard cleans the tables instead of the workers. Uhh what? At least SOMEONE eventually cleaned them. The floor, on the other hand, was actually pretty gross--onions and rice all below my table. In short, there are plenty of options on Barracks Row. Choose a different one. read more
