It took 1 hour and 20 minutes to get our food. From the time we walked in the door, it took about 10 minutes standing in line to get to order. Ordering took about 5 minutes. 35 minutes later we got the text message saying our food was ready. It would then take another 30 minutes to actually get our food. And it was cold. I can't imagine why, it came straight from the kitchen, and I'd been there waiting for 30 minutes. And I don't blame the staff, they were dealing with a lot. BLUF: Delicious burgers, mediocre fries and other quick-serve options. I am so glad I don't live close to a Shake Shack because my hamburger intake would increase significantly. I definitely think this fast food joint has a good burger but I can pass on the crinkle cut fries unless they are loaded with cheese.. If beef isn't your thing, there are other options too like chicken nuggets and sandwiches. I think of shake Shack as being somewhere between fast food and quick serve because when they are busy it can take 20 minutes to get food but that burger is worth it. This particular Shake Shack is located in DC's Wharf neighborhood right next door to the Anthem mixed use venue/concert hall. There is relatively minimal seating inside for as busy as this place probably gets during the warmer months. On a frigid January evening all of the tables and bat tops were occupied. In the summer, I suspect there is outdoor seating that offer great people and seagull watching. Shake Shack is about a half-mile walk from the Waterfront metro station. There is some street parking in the area as well as a nearby garage but the garage will definitely turn a $8 burger into a $20 experience. read more

Hard pass... if you're a tourist and you've never ever been to Shake Shack then maybe you can do it just to try it. But I generally wouldn't recommend it. I've heard great things about this infamous burger chain and I could not have been more disappointed. I ordered a cheeseburger with some fixins and it comes out looking like a flaccid cafeteria burger that you pay 8 dollars for. The views are nice! The berry lemonade was refreshing. The spicy fries are essentially the plain crinkle cut friend sprinkled with chili powder. The avocado bacon burger was so sad looking. The avocado was barely present, the space addition of lettuce and tomato was laughable, and the bun was smashed to hold it all together. For the price you pay, you might as well go anyplace else to get better food. You can use the electronic ordering stations so you don't encounter anyone other than picking up your food from the counter after they shout your number. read more

Oh where to start... They didn't have the special shake of the month. Only one of the two restrooms was open (and not well maintained for the extra volume) and, to top it off, the bio-degradable cup which held my large lemonade / tea ruptured when I tried to insert a straw... Be prepared if you go and the line doesn't seem to move, that you probably need to order online and wait 40 minutes for your order to be ready. Many people were waiting in a "line to nowhere" because the staff member at the door was not letting people know that they needed to use the app to place their orders. I went over and told several people. I was making me so mad that there was no type of communication to the potential customers. Once I did receive my text, it took another 10 minutes to actually get into my hands. I get that not enough workers etc, but communication would go a long way. listen. the food is either accurately or approximately prepared, despite being consistently the busiest restaurant on the wharf. the employees definitely hate everyone and do not care if you know, but any restaurant that can get away with this has to back it up by offering delicious food. i love shake shack and i do not care if the employee tells me the drink i wanted is not available, and i ask for a different drink, and they give me a third drink that i did not ask for (this happened last time and i only respect her for it). i love their seasonal truffle offerings and their burgers and fries are always fresh and reliable. as one of the more affordable wharf options, they are relatively quick when there's not a huge event going on and you can order ahead online anyway. read more

I rarely give a one star review, but there are some things I cannot abide. One is lying to me and telling me you don't have tap water (which building and health codes both require). Especially when I'm in your establishment waiting literally an hour for my food. I like Shake Shack's food. This location is right on the Wharf with a beautiful view of the river. I want to like it since it's where my girlfriend and I ate on our first date. But this location is so unreasonably slow that you're better off walking to a competitor than going through the trying process of getting your food here. Okay, so this is hard to believe but I had never tried Shake Shack until today....yeah I know...crazy stuff Anyway, everywhere at the wharf was crazy crowded and we decided we needed a bite before our concert. The line was long but service and orders were up quick!! I ordered the shroom burger- OMG THIS WAS INCREDIBLE- fried stuffed portobello mushroom as the patty with lettuce tomato and the shack sauce. I loved it 11/10. They also have a Shack Stack which is a cheeseburger under the stuffed shroom for around $10, maybe worth trying for a larger appetite. I also got super excited as I tend to at new places and got a concrete called Pie oh My- blueberry crumble with vanilla frozen custard. Looked amazing- tasted only ok. Mostly crust seemed to be in the shake. I tried some crinkly fries and those were great too!! Loved them with a little ketchup.
