This is the worst Shake Shack experience I've ever had. If your posted closing time is 11:00 p.m., why are the doors locked at 10:40? We placed our order online, arrived before closing, and were refused entry because the doors were already locked. Locking customers out 20 minutes before your posted closing time--especially those with prepaid online orders--is unacceptable. If you're going to stop serving customers before 11:00, your posted hours should reflect that. read more

Themis location literally locked the doors on customers who had already paid because ther were unprepared for the July 4th crowd. My child waited for 90 minutes outside in the heat after ordering and paying on the app. When we came to find out what in the world was happening, they had no idea where his order was and said they couldn't refund him because it was on the app. Of course we weren't willing to accept that flimsy excuse and demanded the food he had paid for. 7 minutes later they finally give him his food and it was horrible and not fresh at all! So he ended up still being hungry. This was despicable, if you can't handle crowds you shouldn't be in a prime location or use an app. Do better! read more

Came to Shake Shack at The Wharf with my girl. The wait was about 15 minutes, which felt long since it wasn't that busy--and no one was at the register or gave any updates while we stood there. That said, the food was definitely worth the wait and the price. Everything was fresh, hot, and honestly hit the spot. Only issue? I asked for no pickles on my burger and still got them--which wasn't a dealbreaker, but definitely annoying when you customize your order ahead of time. BLUF: Delicious burgers, mediocre fries and other quick-serve options. I am so glad I don't live close to a Shake Shack because my hamburger intake would increase significantly. I definitely think this fast food joint has a good burger but I can pass on the crinkle cut fries unless they are loaded with cheese.. If beef isn't your thing, there are other options too like chicken nuggets and sandwiches. I think of shake Shack as being somewhere between fast food and quick serve because when they are busy it can take 20 minutes to get food but that burger is worth it. This particular Shake Shack is located in DC's Wharf neighborhood right next door to the Anthem mixed use venue/concert hall. There is relatively minimal seating inside for as busy as this place probably gets during the warmer months. On a frigid January evening all of the tables and bat tops were occupied. In the summer, I suspect there is outdoor seating that offer great people and seagull watching. Shake Shack is about a half-mile walk from the Waterfront metro station. There is some street parking in the area as well as a nearby garage but the garage will definitely turn a $8 burger into a $20 experience. read more

It took 1 hour and 20 minutes to get our food. From the time we walked in the door, it took about 10 minutes standing in line to get to order. Ordering took about 5 minutes. 35 minutes later we got the text message saying our food was ready. It would then take another 30 minutes to actually get our food. And it was cold. I can't imagine why, it came straight from the kitchen, and I'd been there waiting for 30 minutes. And I don't blame the staff, they were dealing with a lot. It's cherry blossom season in DC, it was busy. It's not that. There is so much about how the place is organized that does not make any sense. Too many things to bother listing. Hard pass... if you're a tourist and you've never ever been to Shake Shack then maybe you can do it just to try it. But I generally wouldn't recommend it. I've heard great things about this infamous burger chain and I could not have been more disappointed. I ordered a cheeseburger with some fixins and it comes out looking like a flaccid cafeteria burger that you pay 8 dollars for. Can't ever go wrong with shake shack! I always get the shack burger without the sauce and add bacon with all the fixings in addition to mayo and mustard. I also get it well done because I don't like pink burgers lol. The service is quick for the most part as it stays busy every time I visit this location. The staff is friendly and busy. This location has a great view of the wharf and the water front view just makes it better. They have self service machines, you can order ahead, or you can go to the counter. The avocado was barely present, the space addition of lettuce and tomato was laughable, and the bun was smashed to hold it all together. For the price you pay, you might as well go anyplace else to get better food. Only one of the two restrooms was open (and not well maintained for the extra volume) and, to top it off, the bio-degradable cup which held my large lemonade / tea ruptured when I tried to insert a straw... Be prepared if you go and the line doesn't seem to move, that you probably need to order online and wait 40 minutes for your order to be ready. Many people were waiting in a "line to nowhere" because the staff member at the door was not letting people know that they needed to use the app to place their orders. I went over and told several people. I was making me so mad that there was no type of communication to the potential customers. Once I did receive my text, it took another 10 minutes to actually get into my hands. I get that not enough workers etc, but communication would go a long way. Our shakes were both the wrong type and the fries were cold and not enough cheese for the bacon cheese fries, it barely covered 5 fries. I rarely give a one star review, but there are some things I cannot abide. One is lying to me and telling me you don't have tap water (which building and health codes both require). Especially when I'm in your establishment waiting literally an hour for my food. I like Shake Shack's food. This location is right on the Wharf with a beautiful view of the river. I want to like it since it's where my girlfriend and I ate on our first date. But this location is so unreasonably slow that you're better off walking to a competitor than going through the trying process of getting your food here. The line was long but service and orders were up quick!! I ordered the shroom burger- OMG THIS WAS INCREDIBLE- fried stuffed portobello mushroom as the patty with lettuce tomato and the shack sauce. I loved it 11/10. They also have a Shack Stack which is a cheeseburger under the stuffed shroom for around $10, maybe worth trying for a larger appetite. I also got super excited as I tend to at new places and got a concrete called Pie oh My- blueberry crumble with vanilla frozen custard. Looked amazing- tasted only ok. Mostly crust seemed to be in the shake. I tried some crinkly fries and those were great too!! Loved them with a little ketchup.
